From what I have read on the internet, Pabst Blue Ribbon, aka 'PBR' is the 'official beer of hipsters' because it is 'cheap.' I have never really drank (i just take pills), so I am not sure what it tastes like. From what I understand, it is one of those beers that you put an orange wedge in. Feel good that it was sold, and now we will get to watch the brand 'transform'. Wonder if they will try to reach the coveted 16-21 beer demographic.
Investor C. Dean Metropoulos made a fortune building well-known consumer brands, including Bumble Bee Tuna and Vlasic Pickles. Now, he is looking to wash them down with a Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Metropoulos, a 64-year-old executive known for invigorating brands, has reached an agreement to buy Woodridge-based Pabst Brewing Co. from the charitable foundation that owns the company for about $250 million, according to people familiar with the matter.
Although little known outside of food circles, he earned a fortune managing brands such as Chef Boyardee, Duncan Hines and Ghirardelli Chocolates.
Damn. Really hope he bundles microwave meals, baked treats, and high end chocolates with PBR.
Feel like we are really about to watch a brand 'hit new markets.' Probably gonna make some seasonal bullshit that they sell for 'way 2 much.'
Not sure if very many American breweries are profitable. Maybe gimmick microbreweries. Sad that Anheiser Busch had to sell off their control of the Sea World franchise.
Pabst Brewing is the country's fifth-largest beer supplier, according to industry newsletter Beer Marketers Insights Inc., accounting for 2.7 percent of industry volume last year. Pabst's blue-collar roots have made the brand--known among beer cognoscenti as PBR--a beer of choice for a generation of irony-loving hipsters from Portland, Ore., to Manhattan's Lower East Side.
Damn. Didn't know they tracked 'who loves irony' when it comes to segmenting consumer demographics.
Wonder if PBR is 'gonna go mainstream' and create a lime-flavored beer for Mexicans, sorta like Miller Chill and Bud Light Lime.
Should I buy a lot of PBR because they are going to change the formula?
Is PBR the 'am appy of beers'?
Can PBR become the #1 beer lifestyle brand in the world?
Is PBR 'the official beer of hipsters'?
Will PBR acquire the Sparks brand?
