Pitchfork ‘pans’ Ratatat’s latest album, gives them a 5.2

Ratatat recently released their latest album LP4, and it sounded a lot like their previous albums LP3, LP2, LP1, LP0 and LP-1.

Basically, Pitchfork says they didn't really evolve, and just used a bunch of old b-sides to create the album.

Unfortunately, LP4 is staler still, collecting the tracks from the Old Soul sessions that weren't released on the last record. Stroud and Mast attempt to provide some distinctive qualities by tossing in some novel instrumentation, but the inclusion of "Mahalo", a thin interlude that was already the B-side of LP3 single "Shiller", suggests bucket-scraping. An array of harpsichords, Japanese strings, and talkboxes are grafted on here in a seemingly desperate attempt to add some kind of variety, but the effects ultimately wind up feeling like limp distractions.

Damn.
"stale."
"bucket scraping"
"desperate attempt to add variety"
"feels like limp distractions"

Sorta wish they had panned it numerically, instead of just with words. Feel like a review this harsh deserves like a 2.0. Guess they had to 'give it a 5ish' just in case Ratatat rebounds and they have better content in the future.

Damn. More harsh vibes:

LP4 makes the classic mistake of trying to fix an exhausted sound by inundation instead of revision.

Damn bro. Being negative isn't really helping us ride any chillwaves. Check out this 'closing line':

But at this point, their sound is wearing increasingly thin and producing diminished results.

Did Ratatat 'peak' in 2004?

Is Pitchfork 'fucking done' with Ratatat?
Is Ratatat's career 'over'?
Is Ratatat no longer relevant?
Do u miss the glory days, back when u used to 'fucking partie' at Ratatat concerts?
Can Ratatat ever recover, or are they doomed to releasing irrelevant albums that no1 really cares abt any more?
Did Ratatat even have a 'complete album cycle'? Were they mismanaged/under-branded?
Is RattyTat the Bird burning in hell?

Miss u.
