PNAU: They’re Pretty Weird

Pnau is pretty weird. But I still like some of their songs. I’m not sure if I can honestly say that I understand the concept of most of their songs or performances, but it works. Sometimes when older people make products that are excessively youthful, we have reason to be alarmed about their mental makeup, but I think the dudes in Pnau are healthy citizens, even though they use a lot of elements in their songs and performances that ‘remind U of being a kid.’

Here are a few videos that prove PNAU is pretty weird.

1. A performance on what looks like the Australian TODAY SHOW. It’s pretty mindblowing.

2. PNAU’s video for “BABY”, which seems like it should be on Nick Jr.
Pnau ‘baby’

3. A live performance of “Embrace”, their song featuring Ladyhawke. They replaced Ladyhawke with a sun

4. An interview with PNAU on Pedestrian.TV.

PNAU: I really like their songs, but I will always just think they are kind of weird, but their songs are still pretty amazing, but they’re still pretty weird, but I still feel comfortable telling people I like them, but I wonder if a lot of people in Australia are weird.

What’s the deal with Australians, yall? Are they growing on U, or r u tired of them?

australian music kinda sucks, espec as of l8. allot of the bands seem to be throw up in your mouth poppy, which is lame. in terms of music australia is like the california of the world; if it’s nice and sunshiny out it’s cool but if you’re having any sort of a bad day or it’s cold out then FUCK OFF already :) is billabong clothing from australia? cuz they also suck.

for a country of only 21 million people, i think we produce more quality music per capita than most places…

i mean, how much sweet music do you hear about that comes out of Romania? it’s about the same size.

and australia is just a seady slow branch off of america/britan

we’re just lucky to have one hectic “nationally-networked, government-funded Australian radio station,” called triple j

wherever ‘eduoordo’ is from, i want to go there

young australian’s are like a blank canvas, which is good and bad

mostly bad though, like when you go to a festival and choke on fluro and the significant lack of genuinely interesting people around.. and when you see the line up for coachella then bawl your eyes out, with your kangaroo the only one who will listen to your dissatisfaction

Aust Music is defenitly comming of age. maybe if there was more funding and actual POPulation to get the music out there than it would be better. UNTIL then we have to just help those who are hiding in the shadows come forth. Listen to triple J.

IM all for my local music.

thats why i try to PROMO it on my blog!!!

I saw Pnau play live in Adelaide the other weekend. Their performance was amazing, and I was completely sober.
The child elements give the band an unusual twist, but its nice.
And the thousand plus people in the crowd behind me weren’t complaining either!!

And Australia produces some very good music thank you. A lot of it is not the same generic stuff you hear everyday on commercial radio.

Modular is probably the height of fame Australia is going to have in popular culture in a while and that’s because they’re associated with Tsubi and people wanting to get trashed at parties. After that noone is going to care about Australia again.

Australian people are just defending this band because they have Aussie accents, but nothing in their style resembles anything Australian at all.

Australian has produced many talented musicians, actors etc (and note Modular are not representative of Australia as they feed off plagiarising other cultures)
Bollock off you yankee doodle dandy fucker fools – at least we have an identity we can be proud of and don’t have the majority of the world hating us in the process.

    shit i agree
as much as i want to leave australia for a change of scenery, i would never move to America. Australian’s, like most other countries think america is like the meaning of arrogance. Hate your own country for fucking up everyone elses. We produce as gooda music as we can, due to a lack of population, america and other countries are 5x our size, and we stick make you all suck our balls in international competitions, you yankee fucks just bomb people and spit on all other countries that have souls.

why can’t they just be open minded like australians? maybe then they could make better electronica

    1. Australia is hugely multi-cultural, and the people who live here are open-minded enough for it to be that way.

    2. PNAU make good music with childish themes because they love dropping acid.

First of all ‘America’ consists of North AND South America, so all you uneducated inbreds when you say so dumbly ‘I hate America’ you so blindly include people who aren’t even involved in The United States affairs.

Secondly it is shallow and belligerent to categorize all the US as ‘yankee-fast food eating-neanderthals’ Just like Australia we have a MASSIVE range of peoples and cultures and it is horribly wrong for you to stereotype EVERY United States citizen as ‘war loving and cock sucking’ you have no idea how the effects of a war tears the stability of your country apart, we are sending our families overseas to fight and die and for some generic ’cause’ which maybe or maybe not be just’, but regardless you dumb insensitive assholes have no idea what it is like for the families and cultures to suffer when you don’t always agree with what your government is doing.

As for the music, hell every country has their ‘mainstream’ which the simple minded ‘douche bags’ and generic club goes, ‘bump to’ but with in the hyped up media exploited music scene there are always going to be indie producers and indie bands who don’t want the fame but do it for the music and the craft of making music, and regardless that is part of ‘musical evolution’ and you will find that with in ANY society/country/state/city ect..
As for PNAU they found their own thing, their ‘niche’ and good for them and wether or not they are ‘mainstream’ is all relative
