I never knew that so many people loved or hated turntables and laptop DJs. I guess it doesn’t matter how many cool stickers u have on ur laptop. We might never know why we should take certain DJs seriously and laugh at other ones.

So, this is actually RLY important. My whole lyf I thought I was kewl for hanging out with people way older than me. This leads to two things. When you’re 16 everyones turning 18 and r able to buy cigs and porn and then they don’t like u anymore cuz ur too young. Then u turn 18 and dey like u again cuz u can drive them to parteez and they can get tugjobs. but now I am 19 and they r all turning 21 within months of each other. what shuld I do to stay relevant? my mom wont give me money for a fake ID bcuz she’s already paying for my alt-clothes I must get every weekend. what should I do?

from 2 big Djs I know that’s pretty much it .. except track selection of all songs together ((like duh right?.. the mix) and they use CDs… they dont use viny maybe 5 songs on vonyl in every 8 hours of music they DJ. so I said fuck it and DJ/d with laptop.. someday ill do traktor w/ vinyl option but I don’t give a shit now

DJs can use whatever medium or tool they want and still be a good DJ or a bad DJ. Neither will define the quality of the DJ. A turntable is just a tool. A mixer is just a tool. A program is just a tool. It’s what you do with them that matters. The reason the best DJs are the best DJs is because they took the time to learn how to use the tools of their craft. Turntables, CDJs, Powerbooks – it doesn’t matter what the tool is. Song selection and feeling the vibe of a crowd is far more important than what program you’re using, or if you’re all digital or all analog. The point of being a DJ is to entertain people – to make people dance and keep a party going. If you’re good at that, you’re a good DJ. Just because your DJ skill set as an all-vinyl DJ is different than the skill set of a laptop DJ does not mean you are better or worse. You have the same goal in mind and are achieving it in different ways.
Also: if you’re going to get a cracked version of a program, install Little Snitch first so it doesn’t phone home.

With only a few exceptions, DJ isn’t about music at all, but rather getting laid. That’s why “traditional DJ’s” hate abelton.
I have prepared a cause and effect chart to demonstrate this concept.

Ableton is a masterpiece and it does not automatically beatmatch for all you true musicians and DJ’s who really know whats up.
You must cut waveforms of the song and listen to it as you were doing it with turntables. True game recognizes true skill and song selection is still up to you. Which I think I’d rather not carry vinyls or turntables if it isn’t necessary, and searching for songs that may not exist or have releases for them yet.
There’s absolutely no scratching needed in electro, and loops can be added for days. Learn your tools and you can achieve greatness!
Oh yeah listen to Neon Coyote(who has used Ableton) or Villians or some other mixes that you’ve come to love. Hell, why play two songs to when you can play multiple for unlimited creation?!
Ableton kills tradition circa 2k anyday! So take of your shackles old schoolers, and release yourselves from constraints over hype and view reality. In reality the kids just want to dance! So if I wanna jam some Kid Sister over some Spank Rock spits, drop in on some Delorean in the mix, and get The Teenagers hyped in the club. By all means that’s the new Daft Punk.
