Watch Santogold Half-heartedly Try to Stand Behind Her Overconceptualized Video That Some Guy Named Neema Directed

Do you like massacres of colors? Video highlights include:

  • A woman’s brains squirting out of her head
  • Santogold’s backup dancers doing their best to earn their (minimum wage) paycheck
  • a girl pretending to vomit out green liquid utilizing the vomit-tube technology that Will Ferrell mastered in his early SNL days
  • see a man gutted (but it makes u kind of sad when sand falls out of his belly, and not his real insides)
  • watch a man eat jello out of a cadaver
  • Miscellaneous alternative people getting fake-injured or killed, and having colorful wounds

Santogold’s body language kind of comes across like the type of musician who ‘enjoys making music and performing it live, but feels uncomfortable with the whole part about having to sell yourself as a product.’

Maybe I will actively start liking Santogold way more than people pretend to like M.I.A., since Santogold’s personal brand seems pretty humble and reasonable. It will prove that I understand that even though Santogold was crossbranded and blurbed about in conjunction with M.I.A., it doesn’t mean I should believe that she is an American M.I.A. Maybe I am entering an era where I talk myself into appreciating American artists and collectives because I want the USA to emerge as a darkhorse in the electro/alt music war.

I think this song is kind of growing on me like most Tegan and Sara songs.

She seems overall uncomfortable with the idea of herself being personally branded.

L.E.S. ARTISTS IS A HELLA OLD SONG.

I HELLA HEART SANTOGOLD…..THE WACK ASS DOUCHE BAGS AT MY WORK LAUGHED WHEN I WOULD TRY TO BLAST HER AT WORK LAST YEAR AROUND THE SAME TIME….WHCIH MAKES ME MAD, BECAUSE THEY’RE MOST LIKELY ON THE BAND WAGON NOW THAT THE ASSHOLE DOUCHE BAG LOSERS AT MTV GAVE THEIR MUCH UN NEEDED STAMP OF APPROVAL.

SANTOGOLD IS HELLA TIGHT AND SHES NOT COMPARED WITH MIA, SHE JUST RUNS IN THE SAME GROUP AS (MIA, AMANDA BLANK, SPANK ROCK/ DELVIN AND DARKO,DIPLO, ROXY COTTONTAIL….)

this video confuses me. it seems like it should be sort of comical (I guess because it reminds me of those old nickoledeon shows where people got slimed and stuff) but the subjects in the video act like they’re actually being ripped apart by bears….is it SUPPOSED to be really serious?

First of all, this director did not “come up” with the ideas for this video. He Straight up lifted them from Holy Mountain, a amazing film from the 70s.
Santi drives a benz that she got for writing songs for Ashlee Simpson (Get Outta My Head) and others…
i respect her and her talents, and man everyone’s gotta hustle, but i find it hard to believe her premise. but i find it hard to believe MIAs too. but i am probably just jealous.

I’m not crazy about the LES video either, but Nima-whats-his-face has some other strong work. Notably his Hot Chip and that Chromeo video that ripped off Dire Straits.

But yeah the fact that she can’t pronounce his last name either is pretty dismissive.

i like the video, but i like the horse scenes even more than the colours.

also: puking colours was just done like five seconds ago by operator please. (”leave it alone” video)

also i like remixes of MIA’s singles, but santogold’s album is pretty solid through and through. she’s a lot less gimmicky and a lot less self-aware. and she doesn’t wear the brian lichtenberg bodysuits. just saying.

I’m glad others brought up Holy Mountain.

It’s not even “inspired by” or an homage to, it’s a direct, scene by scene rip-off!

Santogolds lyrics are overly concerned with being an “artist” – when you look at the lyrics of les artistes and creator she seems maybe egomaniacal. feel like she tried to incorporate one of every style on her album cause she spent ages in a shitty non-alt band and this is her one shot at success
