When are there too many remixes? Does too many rmxes take away value from your product? Is it shortsighted to think that ‘the more rmxes, the better’?
[Where connections = remixes]
I rlly like Cut Copy, and all of these authorized remixes by artists who are relevant/worthy of remixing them, but as a consumer, it is natural for me to want a new product.
“Hearts on Fire” already has rmxes by:
- Knightlife
- Joakim
- Holy Ghost
- Midnight Juggernauts
- Damage
- (some1 else?)
Should there be a limit on the number of remixes that can be done on one song? I’d say 3.5 is a safe number, but usually you should have 1 great dance remix, and an additional banger or ‘concept’ remix based on ur band’s brand. If u worked for a major independent electro indie record label, what would u suggest during a brainstorming session?

the m0r remixes= the better. common this is the blog age, u can preview everything on hype machine b4 u download. take what u like, leave what u don’t. why should we bitch about the amount of available free music? I paid $6 for singles in junior high school, I’m perfectly happy listening to 20 seconds of a crappy remix and deciding not 2 download.

But if you limited it to 3 remixes per song then Crookers would hog all three!
For every new release you need:
A remix by an established producer.
(Switch, Diplo, Phones ect.)
A remix by an “up & coming” producer.
(GRUM, Night Facilites, Boy 8-Bit)
A remix by an alternative “band” that are trying to jump on the “remixing wagon”
(CSS, The Horrors, Cut Copy)
A remix by a leftfield act that makes the song sound “sO Randem”
(Crystal Castles, Burial, Metronomy)
A remix by a French house veteran that makes the song sound all “melodic & euphoric”
(Alan Braxe & Fred Falke)
& your obligatory 3 mixes by Crookers

And then comes Lifelike to turn Cut Copy into gold for three minutes.

@5:11 yes! + let us not forget various UK duos who blend 70s disco loops + faggy electro bleeps and bust out with some prog house/trance stomper for the g-hey kids and their alt friends who are OK with that just in time for the beach parties
usually on CD2 with the token unreleased track.
