R.I.P. M.I.A. C.Y.O.A. T.T.Y.L.

M.I.A.'s last contribution to society was wearing a t-shirt that simulated having electrical tape over her nipples.

Did yall hear that M.I.A. is retiring?
I know what ur wondering... 'what does that even mean?'

Can 'alt celebrities' even retire? I guess if you are M.I.A. or Santogold or some other artist/band who was lucky enough to have their song in a commercial & catch on to the point that they are getting $100K+ per gig, then it makes sense. I'm sure 'having to perform in the electro era' can take its toll on any peformer.

Does it mean that she is tired of the public eye? Is she tired of being associated with other 'artists' who are more interested in partying, and not rlly into self-expression and other authentic stuff? Should I respect her more if she really does go away for good? Can we assume that M.I.A. was legally blind because she never took off her sunglasses?

I feel like we should assume that she is going to:

  • 'change her name' or
  • 'have an overhyped comeback in 2.5 years when she 'feels like making music again, but she will probably just need a little bit of cash after she pops out a kid'
  • will become a designer who will automatically get press because 'she used to be M.I.A.'
  • will settle down with her new husband who is the son of a record executive
  • will conspire to take down Santogold, since Santy stole most of the blurbs reserved for 'dark skinned girls who make interesting music that isn't hiphop'
  • will partake in an internship for Marc by Marcus Jacobs

N E ways... I'm sad that M.I.A. is dead. I only really listened to that song 'Paper Planes,' so I guess I nvr rlly got to know her. Was she good or what?
