Is this movie going 2 ruin New York City’s personal brand?

Yall, this movie looks really interesting. It seems to do a good job of portraying the city that the gals from Sex and the City live in. I kinda also wanna see this movie because of all of the independent actors. They seem pretty authentic. I’m thinking of transferring to Parsons from Pratt to feel ‘closer 2 the city.’

I know a lot of yall have dreams of moving to NYC, but it isn’t always what u see in the movies. When u walk around NYC, the city doesn’t have speakers that play Mika, Vagina Spektor, and Feist in the background (no playlist exists that automatically plays songs utilized in iPod commercials). A lot of people come to NYC thinking that every1 listens to alt-ish mainstream hits, but it’s not like that at all.

I hope this movie doesn’t make suburbanites think that NYC is all abt ‘meaningful small interactions’ that trick people into thinking that they r alive.

What does NYC mean 2 u?
a) minorities
b) minorities who don’t speak English (the bad kind)
c) dirtie
d) overrated
e) not so alt after 2k1
f) a creative place 4 creative people
g) an okay place, but wish people didn’t make such a big deal abt it
h) the place where the New York Yankees play
i) the most authentic city in the world
j) the most meaningful city in the world
k) a place that entry-level alts go to graduate into 100% d-bag alt that they always dreamed of being
l) NYC is the only place where my dreams will come true and my self-concept will be realized
m) is that the city where they filmed ‘The Hipster Olympics’ viral video?
n) the city where my rich friend moved to
o) the city where my successful friend lives
p) ‘home’
q) Choose.Your.Own.Response.

NYC is my favorite shopping mall/nightclub/movie set in the world.

But seriously, the amount of fucking talent (in all senses of the word) here is just amazing. Whenever I leave and come back I am reminded of this.

this movie is 100% barf-o-rama. carles, yes, please help ppl realize that moving to NYC can be one of the biggest mistakes of your life.

start out in philly. in addition to cheap rent, there are plenty of alt-pertunities for personal growth, lots of d-bags and chicks in art school, a wide variety of “minorities” to impose your beliefs about politics and farmers markets on, and wharton’s right there if you decide to go MNSTRM.

i hope netflix rec’s this movie to me in 3-7 months.

worst than wanna be alts that upgrade in a month, the worst thing are wanna be hippies/beatniks that move to San Francisco thinking they will embrace a mythological and overtly great cause to the world driving their 2mpg pickups on weekends to the farm, and spending weekdays in their condos with the a/c blasting, but still saying they’re going green…

I’m actually moving out of the states in a couple of months, either to Florence or to Paris… couldn’t be more glad, Europeans are soooo authentic… Australia sounds cool too, but they speak English there…

detroit’s not authentic, its just good.. and i guess that is pretty real, but not the kind of “realness” we’re all striving after haha.. oh, and carles your description of, “I’m thinking of transferring to Parsons from Pratt to feel ‘closer 2 the city.” were the exact words of my friends in NY.. haha, too funny

New Yorkers need to realize that there isn’t anything going on there that isn’t going on in every other major city in the world. Get off your high horse already. New York stopped being cool like ten years ago, and since then it was LA, Austin, Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Rio, Ibiza, and then this last year Chiang Mai. Right now Portland is starting to smell of d-bags and I’m thinking Chicago goes next year – any bets?

Oh thanks for letting us know your tips for what’s likely to become cool. I’ll hedge my bets.

It stopped being cool 10 years ago already? When did it start? HOW ARE YOU SO WISE?

ny was only cool when they had gang wars between americans and irish in the slums and everyone had a big knife, and leonardo de caprio wore the same shirt for 30 years… wait, wasn’t that a movie?

I have to agree partially with anon @ 3.05, people think that NY is the only major city in the world, there are so, so, so, so many others that offer the same things (some possibly even more), but don’t have the attitude…
