hipster culture deserves a critique, but the adbusters piece is a reactionary piece of shit. 1) people have been proclaiming the decline of western civilization for like 2500 years. 2) the claim that other subcultures are somehow authentic is pretty laughable. as far as hipsters go, irony is a powerful tool/weapon/remedy/drug, but not when practiced in codified, stabilized forms. ie, western plaid shirts, neck bandanas, neon 80’s shit, etc. also, stealing from other eras is pretty inoffensive, a more devastating approach (but do hipsters care?) is to recontextualize contemporary clothing of other subcultures.
