Bringing Props to Music Festivals

Music Festivals: a Place for AltBros

[Photo by David Hill][via p4k acl recap]

I remember back when meaningfulcore was about to take over the world, it was important to prove that ur personal brand clearly indicated that u liked certain bands.  There used to be subtle ways of proving that you listened to DeathCab/ur fave band.
These days, things r really different.  People are going out of their way to prove that they ‘get’ artists like no1 else gets them.  The bro above constructed a double-sided sign so that he could watch 2 of his favourite artists at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.  He loves MGMT & CSS.

I feel like music festivals are the new sporting events.  A place where bros go to hold up signs that prove that they ‘get’/'authentically enjoy’ certain events/artists.

srsly tho… music is getting mainstream. next thing u know, Ur uncool dad will run into you at a music festival with a quirky, overdesigned-without-a-computer posterboard sign.

Do yall bring ‘fun props’ 2 concerts 2 prove that ur the #1 fan in the world?

Shows are certainly NOT becoming sporting events… maybe certain LARGE festivals but that is a stretch. It’s quite of opposite in fact. People are just too cool to go to a show and ENJOY it. Do you have any idea how long that band has driven, how little they are getting paid? Show some fucking love already. I think the real crisis within the alt community is thinking that a band is much bigger than they really are…. especially among fans. Newsflash: Getting a write up in pitchfork DOES NOT make you a star. Go out a really support your favorite artists! And would it kill you to buy a CD or a t-shirt? It seems almost insulting not to considering just how low the covers are.

    ^^^^^^

to the guy above me, in the crappy local band.

i am not going to pretend to enjoy a shitty band because they “drove a long way to play.” and i certainly will not purchase any of their SHIT just because i didn’t “pay a lot to get in.”

this is not “the problem within the alt community.” it’s bitter LOSERS like you. asshole.

Whatever about the dork with the sign-who the eff is that insanely hot standing in front of him with the feathered Farrah Fawcett hairn and sunglasses on her head? My penis would like to know who it’s being masturbated to…
