Do yall know if this is going to be converted into a public service announcement discouraging people from majoring in art/design/communications? The bad thing about having a unique point of view is that u feel an obligation to learn the tools which will help u express urself. This leads u 2 art school/design school.
As the world evolves, more unique people are born, meaning more people who need to express themselves, meaning more art schools. It sux because we don’t have n e 1 to do menial jobs @ McDonalds, or be accountants n e more. I wish there were less artists so that our economy would be g00d again.

you’re doing a great job keeping us up to date on breaking updates in the electro war and koowky azn fashions but what about art schools?
come on carleserslerers, this place is an alt factory. a place where impressionable 18 year olds become subjected to some of the most altyaltmcalts in their major metropolitan city (art schoolers confidence is rooted in both impeccably alt fashion choices and “culturedness” in fine arts and theory). the velocity of going from a mnstrmr to an alt in the freshman year of art school is unparalled. there’s not even an entry level alt phase. every day spent wearing boot cut jeans and messy graphic screen printed tee shirts that used to seem cool and unique in yr florida suburb back home is a day spent not making friends at fine art schools. and let me clarify the difference between art schools. schools like saic (chicago), smfa (boston), cooper union (new york) are FINE art schools. fine art schools are tiny. they make really pretentious performances pieces and spend most of their time talking about gender roles. these are the altest art schools. there are secret cliques that i can’t even tel you about because they are internet resistant the goretex on a northface jacket. these cliques are so ruthlessly hip you might never even know they exist. regular art schools, like columbia college (chicago), cal arts (san fransisco), pratt (new york), massarts (boston), mica (baltimore) are huge bro’d down schools. they all have like, 20,000 students and they’re mainly made up of animation and graphic design dave mathews band white baseball cap bros, anime loving goth sluts and entry, entry level alts. their may be a dozen or so high level alts at these huge schools but they are probably there for “art theory” and only go because “they got a huge scholarship” (while the more alt fine art school in the same city didn’t give them one, but they’d never admit to it for fear of losing cred). listen, i could babble on about this forever. art school is really important crlsrlsrs, ok?

i went to parsons, i lived at 39th and 2nd, it was a good experience living in the city but a horible experience going to the school. its a very unorganized school and its just like a sponge to your money. if your taking loans out youll want to take a extra 10grand out to pay for extra materials living conditions and zoloft. do your self a favor. dont go.

I do not think that art school is really an alt school. For sure student who attend art school have an altier attitude, but then people who attend med school have a jockier attitude. And sure there are a buch of poser who study in art history or some other program because they dont want to say to their rich dad that they dont care about anything. But there are some people who really care about art, and by the time they graduate they will have had exposed in a few gallery while the posers will still be discusing about the visual art scene.
Art schools are made for people with a creative id so that they dont sit on there asses and emancipate themselves as artists.

Someone already pointed it out, but Cal Arts is not in San Fran, it’s in Santa Clarita. I should know, because I live here. It’s a shitty ass town; and for the individual that said they were going to attend, you will quickly learn that you will be spending the next four years of your life on a campus. This town is real shitty.
On that note, I’ve attended a few openings at the school due to friends and what have you, and I’d say the art is really good roughly 37% of the time. Otherwise, it’s just more art.
Ill be attending California College of the Arts in Oakland for writing and literature. anyone have anything to say about CCA?

@Drew, as a CCA alumni I invite you enjoy your time at the most hipster/ alt/ gutter punk/whtever school on the west coast. the degree programs are good, the art that comes out is mediocre, and the profs never have good connections to help get jobs later. all my alumni friends are jobless or working retail.

I dont know much about art schools, except that all art teachers like artists themselves; are always drinking gin. No it’s not water it’s fucking gin.
The people i know who go to artschools themselves are alcoholics, or drink alot at parties and they also like to fuck. And smoke weed.

having a macbook/laptop is required at pretty much all art skools now. CCAC, Academy of Art and a host of others have it listed as a requirement.

The oxbow school is a good art program, its in napa california, its a one semester program for juniors and seniors in high school and people taking a year off before college. I went there for the spring semester, most of the ppl who go here get into any art college of their choice with ease
