Electroma is a meaningful story about 2 robots who want 2 be human. As you can see from the 10 minute highlight reel below, the robots drive in cars, put on plastic human skin, and then burn themselves’ alive.
I can’t even remember when Daft Punk’s film ELECTROMA came out (in 10 total theatres). Is it still in post-production? Is it coming out soon? I know that as an electroDescendant, I must find Daft Punk to be ‘authentic’/'a respected elder’, but just unsure about this lil robot film thingy.
Maybe because of the Masked DJ era, it’s more difficult to take a film about masked DJs who put on human masks seriously. I’m sure it provides relevant commentary on technology, humanity, and other important teen issues, but I don’t know if I will ever ‘get’ it. Maybe it’s a concept film like that one Wall-E.
Maybe I can identify with scenes like this where you feel like an alt in a mainstream world. :-(
h8 it when I go out in the sun & my face starts to melt.
SRSLY THO… who has actually SEEN all of ELECTROMA?

Do u know n e 1 who has actually sat through Electroma?
Do u know n e 1 who owns Electroma?
Do u know n e 1 who went to a [RARE] screening at an authentic movie theatre in a major metropolitan area in order to see it? Do u think they wasted ___ minutes of their lives’ watching a sillie robot film?
If this film was made in the 1960s, would we have seen it on Mystery Science Theatre 3000?
When a movie has a 4 minute long face-melting suicide scene, should we take it seriously?
(do scenes like this make ELECTROMA the greatest film ever made?)
I’m in crisis, yall. Don’t know how to feel about Electroma. Was it a landmark in filmmaking? Just wanna know if people have actually seen it. Have yall?
Why do all of the modern electroActs just make documentaries? Why can’t they make fictional stories about themselves and their quest 2 b __________.

Hi there, i was fortunate enough to watch this film and wasnt dissapointed at all! Its definitly a film for those who like arthouse or arthouse style films, there are alot of long sequences which may sound boring but it does give you alot of time to reflect on the movie, and funnily enough yourself. I loved it from start to finish, my partner hated it with all her might, so i guess it just depends on what your into. Its definitly one of those you’ll either ‘love it or hate it’ films. But watch it anyway, i loved it

Dude, this movie is great. seriously a bit slow at times, and some of the scenes just ‘dont work’. but some of the scenes, like the melty face sceen that ya mentioned, are awesome, and trample many films nowadays. i mean, if ya love movies, and d punk, ya gotta watch the whole thing to get an opinion for ya-self

Sooo b0ring!
watched it and wept because it was so long. love daftpunk so much, but wouldn’t waste another 75 minutes on Electroma. Interstella 5555 is so kick ass tho!

i went to a private screening of this last year, while i had been drunk off cheap wine. I felt like i was there a half hour and they still were driving the car. I was too drunk to stay so i went upstairs to a dance-partay.
i’m glad i saw the 10 minute version now though
that’s pretty much all i need

hmm maybe if it wz lyk interstella & daft punkz wz the musiquez it wouldve been better. i thght getting drnk would make it better but… its hrd 4 me to diss daft punkz cuz i love em buttt… :-/

I went to a private screening/exotic liquor tasting event last year. I thought the first 15 mins looked like Daft Punk meets Mad Max/was a lil’ confuzed.

i saw it in marseille. they screened it at my girlfriend’s art opening. (busy p is her cousin.) it was certainly provocative, but i had had so many glasses of sancerre by the time the film was over that i couldn’t tell you how meaningful it was.
xavier and i were talking about it in the bathroom in between blowing lines. he said he hated it.

However, too much sangria and sparks led me throw up in the bathroom, mehdi threw cold water on me. My opinion of the movie was no different than the product of mixing too much sparks and sangria

I was totally blowing lines w/ my uncle Michael Jackson and my older brother Pope Benedict XVIIXMX the other night while watching Across The Universe. Mike got a nosebleed and it got all over my new white leather sofa. S0000 pissed! But N E WAYZ, we should all have a big family reunion with Uffie and her brother/ex-boyfriend Feadz and Guy-Manuel and Busy P and Busy G and Busy E and Busy V this Christmas. true, y’all, it’s been s0 long!
i’ll send out e-vites to the whole fam!
we could meet up at the family ski-lodge in the andorran pyrenees!! so psyched!
I sat through it. Loads of people got up and walked out. Anyone who says there was anything good about it is lying. It started off so promising but there is nothing redeemable about it at all. It’s just so nothing.

It’s pretty good to watch once, it’s really pretty if you have a big HD tv. Also this has been available for free on Google Videos for like two years. You can download it and watch it on your Ipod.

i saw this and loved it.
it was really hilarious at times and i liked the minimal style of the movie. simple idea, done really beautifully.
i especially loved that scene where the desert landscape pans out and looks like a vagina with tons of muff.
carles, you should love it.

honestly, i loved it. at the very least i think one would have to admit that it’s provocative. the friend that i went with hated it but either way it sparked a good discussion. i’d say it’s definitely worth seeing.

the only thing this movie’s good for is playing on a screen at a party/school dance. or i guess any other setting where people aren’t supposed to be really paying attention to it.

I downloaded it off the internet and it was really slow and long. I expect “film” people to like because of the meanings blah blah blah but it just did not have enough explosions and gunfights for me.

I loved it. It’s not really something most altbags would enjoy, though, because it actually requires at least a few brain cells and an attention span past 30 sec. The final scene was to die for… err…
Reply
i’v seen it. I downloaded it coz it’s meant to be soooooooooo good, but was pretty disappointed in the end. And i didn’t even see the whole thing. about 4/10 for me.

i rented it from itoons. watching it felt like i had had a lobotomy. the themes and tone and everything was so obvious — like watching american idol for the hipster set.
bottom line: a fake art film for people who want to be arty or feel “deep” but are actually neither.

@sergeee,
true for some.. but electroma is an almost exact replica of Gerry by gus van sant. which is a fucking excellent movie, and plenty of people like. if you actually like _film_, not hollywood vomit for people who can’t sit still for 15 seconds without having to see somebody get shot, it’s a great piece of filmmaking.
surprised nobody has mentioned gerry… there was a lot of controversy about electroma being a total copy when it came out
anyway, electroma has some amazing moments. overall it’s pretty good. van sant did better.

I sat through it on Pitchfork.tv. It was one of those one week only things. I liked it. Appearantly (people have probably already said this) but it matches up a la “Dark Side of the Moon”/Wizard of Oz to “Human After All”.
Or something like that, who knows.

I’ve seen the film several times and have it on dvd, it’s just preference, if you like it you like it, if you don’t then you don’t end of really, there’s no need to be rude or ignorant about the film, if you don’t understand it then you’re less like to like it.

Fucking Great mof-ing movie!!!

Terrible film. Saw it at Cannes. Saw it at home on DVD. Just sucks. One long boring preachy music video. Some beautiful images but could have been cut down to a nice 15 mins and been palatable.
Reply
I own it. And as a 75 minute long mind fuck, it succeeds admirably. As a film….lets just say Thomas and Guy Man probably won’t be winning any Oscars anytime soon. That being said, it was beautifully filmed and there are a few really amazing scenes (the all white laboratory scene springs to mind).

I saw the entire thing through.
I love Daft Punk, but,
As far as a movie goes, Electroma is a piece of shit. As far as a piece of artwork goes, it is still decent at best.
It is extremely long too. Really, really, really long.
That’s what she said.
Reply
Watched it at Mar del Plata’s Film Festival ‘07. People started shouting at the screen in the mid of the movie. They thought they were going to see Discovery.
Some left.
I stayed.
But i knew what to expect. I still like it though.

I own Electroma. I’ve seen it like 50 times. It gets better after you watch it 5 times.
But seriously the movie could’ve been 15 minutes long and I would’ve loved it and taken it seriously.
the way they dragged it out was like…. UGH. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY. And they played shitty music too.
Reply
At first we were impressed that Daft Punk made a tribute movie to The White Room but then after downloading it with Bit Torrent (who’d pay for it, anyway?) we watched it and realised that it’s not really a tribute because our movie actually had a story and really cool music and this didn’t. it’s actually just a big load of shit, really.
Reply
It was an awesome, artsy movie, but also really really really boring. I still liked the music though, I mean the scene where they drive (yeah, I know it’s about half the movie) is so dreamy. They dragged out something that could’ve been done in about 4 minutes, but that’s art for ya!
