MexiAlts

HIPSTER RUNOFF has a significant following in Southern California and Mexico. A lot of AltMinorities email me saying “Carles…u always blog about blipsters & azns, but u fail to blog about MexiAlts, the fastest growing alternative minorities group in the Alternative Nation.”

They’re right. It’s time to finally get serious about blogging about MexiAlts. MexiAlts are responsible for the sustainability of the Party Industry in Southern California. It’s difficult to deny the presence of more MexiAlts than ever on popular party pix sites like thecobrasnake & redslurpeee.

MexiAlts are blessed with the ability to ‘have a wide-eyed, entry level mindset’ without ‘gettin too self-aware’.  They will never ‘become disenfranchised with the state of the scene.’  Instead, they will migrate to a new scene after it is established as a ‘mainstream alt’ norm. MexiAlts enjoy the consumer experience provided by their local mall, usually inundated with MainstreamAltish Trends.  Most MexiAlts are currently transitioning out of emo/PanicAtTheFallOutBoy/post-hardcore, and focusing on electro/bloghaus.

For example, these MexiAlts [via Mexico] have transitioned their PanicAtTheDiscEmo personal brands to a modernized ElectroAlt personal brand.

The MexiAlt comes in many different formats.  I remember during HRO’s myspacer worth blogging about era, many of the selected myspacers were the post-sexual androgynous MexiAlt type.  For example, here is HECTOR ECSTASY.

And who will forget ISAAC MEXICAN? He checks his myspace bulletins [via sidekick] at least once every 10 minutes.

MexiAlts usually don’t make it on the guestlist. They are pure ‘consumers’ in the alternative economy, without many connections/aspirations to do more than stand on the sidelines of the alternative economy. When Southern Californian producers/promoters post myspace bulletins about having a show (equipped with an obnoxious flier), this is for the MexiAlt demographic. Myspace bulletins = usually the best way to reach them.

Female MexiAlts are proud of their American Apparel aesthetic in the way that an entryLevel Alt circa 2k6.3 would be proud of his/her personal brand’s merger with the AA aesthetic.

It’s always just important to remember that Alternative Minorities are more important to the ElectroCommunity than Alternative whites (tentatively called WHIPSTERS). MexiAlts, AltAzns, and Blipster are the people who are proud of the scene–proud enough to go see a DJ who is ‘going to lay down a HARD set.’ White people usually go to more ‘traditional concerts’ while AltMinorities aren’t afraid to ’show up early to get a spot in the front’ and then ‘get sweatie’/grind on one another.

After dedicating significant coverage to blipsters and AZNs, it’s time to honor one of the most important demographics in Altville–the MexiAlt.

What are MexiAlts all about, yall?  Do yall people in the Northern USA/Canada/Australia/Europe even know what a MexiAlt is?
Do u like this era of post-tolerance on HRO?

the scenes where mexialts are the majority often have an authentic layer of grime that nicely supplements the personal brand.

integration of latinas into the alternaverse mean a higher sexy quotient is integral to the jammery of any party. their clever use of poppy, mainstream booties is next level.

    pressure is on, babes.

As a mexican I really like this post, but I agree with the other cooments. Most Mexi-alts are very behind the times, of autentic alts. I live in austin, which is a pretty hip city, but when I go outside the city limits or to my hometown of el paso I feel like people are still excited to see american apparel and on my high school friends myspace I still see people in love with justice that they just discovered, which are like 200 blog years old. I went to el paso again recently and saw mexi-alts super proud of there deep v’s and wayfareres, but then dated themselves with shutter shades.

Its funny really, but hey without them to look weird, all of us authentic alts would have no one to look cool too.

@xavier, Nothing is less authentic than claiming ur authentic. It’s like alchys sayin they dont have a drinking problem. Ur only authentic by default if you compare urself to el pasoeniters. Take it from a fellow Austinonianiter.

If this post is one thing, then it is politically correct. And this means the end of HRO. Now, every ALT-group (except native Americans, but just wait for the NU-Age revival…) is part of HRO. It wpuld have been politcally incorrect to leacve them out. Carles is trying to minimize the risks here.

    CRLS,
Can we use some of your advertising monies to fund a group field trip to Sexico City? I want 2 know what it is like. I saw a video on yewtube one time where little Mexican emo children were getting the shit kicked out of them by the Mexican equivalent of American frat dewds. It was like a full-scale riot. Must be rly hard to be alt in Mexico, ppl are so intolerant.
