To me, Heath Ledger’s death was not ‘just a meme.’ I will NVR let that one go. Yall need to realize that the meme economy is making meaningful entities disposable. All of these news + celeb blogs aren’t authentic cuz they don’t take the time to reflect on a legacy. They are s00 consumed with creating Search Engine Optimized memes that they don’t stop to realize that on the other side of this whole ‘internet thingy’ are real human beings. We are real human beings who are searching for authenticity.
I wish people would just understand that HIPSTER RUNOFF not just a blog. I am an open search for authenticity. I don’t rlly care about turning ‘events’, ‘people’, and ‘newsbits’ into memes.
HIPSTER RUNOFF is a place for reflection. Kinda like how myspace is for friends. I just want to be a place where you can come and ‘get real.’ I want you to be able to really just be you. I want to ‘get’ u. I want u 2 ‘get’ me. I want to get buzzed with u. I want to laugh abt the ’simple things in life’, like an incompetent waitress at Chili’s who will never be a college graduate. I want to make mistakes, and go through hard times with u. I want u 2 listen to me. I want to pretend 2 listen 2 u.

@kuet lil fggt, it’s a good point in the fact that you can’t not be a consumer. You may not have bought anything significant in the last few months but you will eventually. as of late I have spent the most money on CD’s and T-shirts when going to shows…. because it makes me authentic and bands need to eat and buy gas and macbooks and drugs… etc. so that they can be authentic and the circle of consumerism continues.

Heath Ledger was a true alt/bro, 7 years ago in the neighborhood of Los Felizbian he invited a bunch of us back to his house after the bar closed and we drank and he played The Radioheadz current ‘Alterpiece’( I forget what the title wuz) record while members of The Phantom Menace Planets played instruments. Wow what a magikal mainstream alt nite! He was a good host considering this was pre electrowars/blog/
sparks/joose/cobrasnake time in our lives. Its sad to think that no one will remember the past unless it is camera pic/youtubed/mybooked immediately….

searching for ‘what you believe in’ is s00 hard but ‘achieving your dreams’ and living a ‘meaningful’ life is so going to be worth it when you’re a free spirited mom/cool dad/wacky aunt trying to impart these ‘important life lessons’ to your son/daughter/nephew who’s just starting to think about the ‘meaning of life/why are we here/is there really a CRLS?’

I don’t get this site, but I’m pretty sure it annoys the crap out of me. I’m guessing all this “authentic” talk is ironic? Because from my experience, those obsessed with being authentic are frauds and those who run around criticizing hipsters or whatever you’re calling them these days are just annoying hipsters themselves, but they are worse, they think they’re somehow more evolved or something. It all makes my stomach churn. How about rather than talking about this useless stuff, you go and get a job involving manual labor, that will authentic your ass right up.

@misspissy, gosh that was great. i stumbled upon this site because I miss Heath Ledger a lot. His death effected me in a way that is still unexplainable to me, and so sometimes i go searching for him. To me there is no search for authentic, there is just what is. He had qualities that i can see would attract those in arrested development, but i think he was more than that. he obviously had moments of insecurity, but he sought art — not what it should look like when one is looking @art.
