Should I get an 8ball tat since I started buying 8balls of coke to sniffle off my iPoddy?
As yall know, I am looking to acquire more skills beyond ‘blggng’ and ‘listenin 2 bloghause on my iMac.’ I think I’m gonna start DJing. I’ve heard a lot about the Abletons and Serato computer software program app, but I’m just wondering if I need to buy some sort of retro gear in order to differentiate myself from all of these entry-level DJs.
Have yall heard of ‘iTunes’ or ‘Winamp’? Can u DJ out of those platforms?
What type of technologie do I need 2 buy in order to become the most authentic DJ in the history of AZN DJs (even tho I’m not AZN)? Do I need to invest in CDs or ‘Vinyls’? Which 1 will give me the Highest Quality bitrate? Do I need to get more stickers on my iBook to keep it from crashing?
Should I morph into a PC like Girl Talk?

To be truly authentic one must DJ w/ vinyl, record on to an IPod, and then play live instruments over the IPod hook loop a la old Glass Candy shows.

Seriously, though. I’ve been spinning records since way before Serato and all that shit existed, and I’ve toured the world to play many times over, blah blah blah. I’m a relatively known and regularly giggin DJ. Although I’ve made the transition to Serato from vinyl and whatever, its totally obvious that because of Serato and similar programs, the quality of new DJs sucks horrendously, for many reasons I don’t even want to explain or get into.
I love reading your blog. I check this shit every day. You’re good at this, better than most bloggers which I typically don’t like so much, so stick with this!

Hey man this is our scene we have been following this blog since before alice glass was a sex symbol, since before the electro war even began. We dont need your judging ways to contaminate our lifestyle brand. This blog is about doing things not because it ‘makes sense’ or ‘is what society needs right now’ but to cohere with your ultimate i/brand design image in an aesthetically viable early onset trend that can elevate your social standing in party and party-like environments. A real dj would get a ipod for each hand, even better if you can somehow make it wireless, then just play the song you think sounds best. no one is doing this, yet.
then put one some kind of definitive clothes, justice has jackets, others have masks, robot helmets ect… I suggest a cool hat or maybe shoes, you gotta be original now in days

I am so sick of beginner DJ’s who get gigs just because they are ‘keut’ and ‘play Crookers remixes.’ If you use bpm counters to match beats instead of your ears, you are a str8 poser. End of story.

nah. some of the bpm counters work pretty good. like both ableton and torq take that part out of the equation, which should be welcome, since it makes things easier and better (hello welcome to technology)
i’d much rather have a world where ppl get gigs for being ‘attractive, fun and playing songs ppl wanna hear’
than a world where ppl get gigs just because they are ‘weird ppl that have spent 800 dollars on turntables and a bunch of vinyl’, we will just have to listen to whatever he bought.

carles should have seen the outrageously boring and annoying ‘old dj’ vs. ‘new dj’ comment spam coming.
i think we actually had this exact same debate like 4 months ago and i settled the whole thing with a whole comment which i think (?) got put on the blog? about old djs being like people who were really good at riding horses getting really bitter and mad when they invented trains/cars and like ‘ANYONE COULD DO IT but like those people totally arent REALLY going places they are just p0sers!!’
