Who Are The World’s Best DJs?

Yall. I read at the Daily Swarm that some magazine called “DJ Magazine” came out with their top 100 DJs of 2k8. While I am not a big electroHouseDisco Music buff, I feel like I should know more people on this list.

SNUBBED//WRONGED//FUCKT OVR//

I just don’t understand why my BlogCentric view of electro music didn’t make a bigger splash on this list. Does most of the world listen to guido+eurotrashCore ‘techno’ music? Am I an unEducated electroFan? Does the music that I listen to ‘not matter’ in the context of ‘authentic electronic’ music?

I have made the bloghouse/mainstreamLectro bands that appeal to me GREEN.
Everything is that is guidoCore/electronica/technoh0use/authentic techno is RED.

Who are blogville’s most relevant DJs? Which DJs probably cost the most?
Are u tired of all of the guidoHouseTechno DJs getting all of the attention? (Are they more authentic than bloggy electro DJs who have capitalized on the entrylevel alt population growth spurt?)

But SRSLY, doesn’t it piss u off when ur local DJ seems like he’d rather be any where else than playing at your local ElectroParty?

If u could have a DJ set by n e 1 in the w0rld, who would it be?

..also, Bob Sinclar’s first single was produced with Thomas Bangalter and he’s definitely an OG on the french electro/ house scene.. Just sayin.. He surely isn’t a ‘Guido’ and I figured considering how much you love the Dafty Guys so much you’d know that Carles! Oh well, guess you just aren’t that ‘authentic’ when it comes to DP.

    03. Paul van Dyk – German
    04. Above & Beyond – 2 Englishmen, One Fin
    05. David Guetta – French.

    NONE OF THEM ARE GUIDO’s

“”Guido” (Gino in Canada) is a pejorative slang term for a younger working class, Italian-American or Italian-Canadian male from the urban Northeastern United States or urban Central Canada, most often New York and the surrounding area due to the large number of Italian-Americans living in the area. The Guido stereotype is often portrayed as humorously thuggish and overtly macho attitude and an unyielding pride in his Italian ancestry.
In a wider sense (and not directly connected to the above term anymore) is the use of ‘Guido’ as a bouncer slang term for an obnoxious club-going male.[1]”

I love hipster runoff, but every now and then I see many American blogs with a typically US-centric view of the world.

You guys realise there is a world out there where techno and electro and hybrid artists of the genre exist?

In Australia and the UK for example – electro, and techno are enjoyed by the same group of people.

Guido’s here still listen to this shit – http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=zEzh10_xoqw

I like how you threw in the relevant political attack du jour, “alternative-palin-mccain dimension.”
I’m even more surprised you follow our petty elections from ur sophisticated, ‘tolerant’, forward-looking ivory tower in Europe.

“If you think there aren’t electro artists who are gay or there aren’t people who listen to alt-electro aren’t gay…”

Though DIOYY is mostly indie, its alot better then this Techno/Electro/Dance that has come out over the last few years.

The DJ mag list is pretty shit though. Yer theres some good DJ’s in there. But wheres DJ’s like “2 Many Djs” and “Ajax” who are awesome.

Everyone is a DJ and it’s really unoriginal, besides the fact that it’s so 2006 and the only ppl still interested in that shit is underage kids who grew up with a screen in their face and didn’t have the choice of watching technology unfold therefore they aren’t invested and their interests don’t usually extend further then “what’s cool now” rather than taking the time to understand and be knowledgable about the origin and history of said interest. Also, calling yourself a hipster is for posers, I mean who does that? and I also want to add that while most techno is crap especially house, that does not mean that it’s rightful founders (the ppl in the DJ Mag list) should not be listed because “baby hipsters” don’t care about them because they weren’t even alive when the movement began. I mean some of those names I remember from the 90’s, just because you don’t think they’re “hip” like Justice and DaftPunk, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be on that list. Your list, while I like many of those names, is for scenster whores. “U don’t have to appreciate old shit in order to like modern music.” Whoever said that is completely ignorant, no you don’t have to appreciate “old shit” in order to like modern music, but you should know the history of your interests and it’s roots, instead of being an uneducated moron who doesn’t know what the fuck they are talking about. If you want to insult me and call me 40 as well, save it cuz I’m in my early 20’s. No one is a pioneer in any creative industry without an understanding of the past, present, and future. It’s called a re-appropriation of previous ideas.

I read this for the hilarious take on the nullity of contemporary culture, but when Carles/the commenters try and *seriously* discuss music (as htey do here), it just shows why you all hide behind a sheath of irony in the first place: you shitheads know nothing. Here’s some advice, carles: stick to alt-titties & pizza costumes.

2.) You know nothing of the history of electronic music.

Putting Samantha Ronson and Girl Talk anywhere near (both in credibility and career history) Carl Cox, Sven Vath or Andy C is an utter joke.

Just because you got into what you are calling ‘Electro’ 2 years ago because someone remixed Bloc Party on their laptop doesn’t mean you know dick about electronic music.

Cesar always plays some cringe-worthy 90s club megahit – whether its the most annoying Daft Punk sobng ever or some diva shit – almost as bad as the red-listed euro/guido/house Aqua shit. Also – for the guy that posted the Bad Boy Bill vid from DMC… good point he is entertaining and dare I say cool… but that clip shows a bunch of wack turntablism and absolutely no music. It’s like watching a dude furiously re-create a morning radio intro bumper where they throw together a bunch of sound effects in A.D.D. style. cheeeeeeeese.

The RED list however. ALL are producers, seasoned composers that understand more about music than any of your list.

Just about every DJ listed in red, is more ’successful’ than any of the DJ’s listed on the HRO list. We measure success in this case, by the amount of money, number of people, number of years on the scene etc, each of these DJs has. This is a truly middle american suburban point of view on electronic music.

I like this blog, I like the cynicism and the way certain issues of american culture are addressed. However, the points of view expressed here are generally extremely sheltered and have little or no relevance to the general public discourse.

You’re always complaining about how you’re trapped in suburbia… pack a bag and walk the fuck out. Go to Paris if you want some serious electro, spend a night in London for some serious house, hit up Amsterdam and get some techno on the go.

dude, you obviously are narrow minded when it comes to dj’s. typical american. no offense. but the video example you posted is NOT what 98% of these dj’s play. I am a DJ. I know 90% of the dj’s on that list. some play trance some play house (DEEP HOUSE, ELECTRO HOUSE, ..etc). The list of dj’s you mentioned are only big in parts of the states within a narrow demographic and are relatively new. The list they mentioned consists of Dj’s that have been dj’ing for 10+ years and are recognized worldwide.

i like the amateur aesthetic way more than that of tiesto or similar artists. it makes the artist seem more like a ‘real person’ with manners hobbies and habits that i can actually relate to possibly in person, other than a dj who’s making so much money and being so idolized it is no longer about the music [even if it is] and inevitably changes everything that used to be. money ruins music [and alot of things].
i judge music based on how unpopular it is. it’s just a factor that helps me see the actual sound in a light that i find more interesting & enjoyable. it better defines ‘alternative’ for me. it’s really awesome to think that there’s a different path that i can take that instead of opposing to majority taste [which i apparently don't like (maybe because i suck at it.. not sure why yet)] is just a different world all together.

also it was mentioned earlier but seeing the unpopular
ones is wayy more fun and meaningful.
as much as i understand the sarcasm in this blog experiment thing i can’t help but start to think hard haha… ‘thinking out loud’
