Cut Copy: Officially Mainstream?

When I heard this remix by Cut Copy of Maroon 5’s “This Love”, a lot of stuff went through my head:

  • Has Cut Copy officially ‘made it’?
  • Why is Maroon 5 trying 2 be alt and having a remix contest?
  • Why is Maroon 5 releasing a ‘remix album’?
  • Are we about to enter the era of excessive REMIX products by mainstream artists?
  • Should I ‘give this remix a chance’?
  • Could I imagine lead singer Adam Levine as an ‘authentic disco singer over a DFA-sounding product’?
  • Will I ever be able to think of the world as not being a constant struggle between mainstream & alt?
  • Would I be more open to this remix if James Murphy/Frankmusik/Girl Talk/some other alt-male singer was singing?

Is this remix authentic? Do yall like it, or does it make u uncomfortable?

This song will always be an anthem for females with no personalities who listen to ‘alternative hits within the top 40′, and will eventually develop into a soft rock staple in 2k15.

Isn’t this song about doing the naughty with a girl who secretly has no soul?

unfortunately it’s also a staple of my closeted coworker with whom i share an office and who likes to play songs like this very loudly. srsly tho what straight man listens to avril-style covers of little mermaid songs… :((((

btw cut copy is balls. cut copy and maroon 5 are both balls. this remix is awful.

it’s a nice remix, it shares nothing but the lyrics from the original, it’s kinda safe to remix mainstream artists right? but i hope they don’t start making it a “normal” thing. the jewstices did britney, so i guess whatever the jewstices do is canon law

don’t rly care. pretty much confident enough in my own self-awareness/kewlness/authenticity that cup copy remixing mareun5 is not perceived as a threat to my personal brand.

all ausbros know that the cut copys (and the presets and pretty much everything on the modulars) have been maltstream for ages…
all the ed hardy tank tops and southern cross tattoos love listening to them on the way home from the mangements gigs (who are also totes dead to me)…

    @noisy tshirts,

took the words right outta my mouth, modular is so mainstream now every artist they sign goes straight to mainstream.

there once was a time that no one knew about the presets and people thought i was qhey for wearing skinny jeans and other unknown apparel . now every aus has modular all over their ipods whilst wearing theyre nudie jeans which were purchased from general pants and other mnstrm clothing outlets.

it’s reasonably authentic disco but the maroon 5s keep interrupting with their shitty vocals

d0nt know why they chose to remix this song (could have been an instrmntl b-side banger)
