I do not listen to new Animal Collective songs.

I only listen to vintage AnCo.
I only listen to AnCo in free-spirited zany college acapella group format.
Panda Bear, Avey Tare, Geologist (& Deakin) do not colour coordinate in free spirited primary+secondary coloured outfits/bros who ‘wear all black except for a coloured tie.’
In 2k9, acapella will emerge as the most alternative + authentic form of music, since the singers unify as a group to take a song to the next level, usually filling a room with smiles, laughter, and a feeling of hope. Indie bands have attempted to inspire similar emotions for the past 10-15 years.

“This house is sad.”
-The Animal Collectives

“Our house–in the middle of the street.”
-Madness

Should Carles “blog” about the popular new album Merriweather Post Pavilion, or should I just go on with my normal life (utilizing the album cover as my eCum rag)?

XX BONUS ACAPELLA GROUP OF BROS WHO WEAR ALL BLACK EXCEPT FOR A COLOURED TIE XX
Should I blog more about acappella covers? Should I blog more about ‘failed altbros’?

“Been Thinking A Lot 2day” -Ben Folds+”the Stereotypes” about which gimmicks/trends will emerge 2k9

Exmpl: they’re on the front of billboard.com right now.
    Total Mur dur.

Also, wondering y this post is labeled under the Category of The Next Big Thing. Since AmCo isnt something big thats cuming in the future, nd A Capella youtube vids r so viral//painful//2k8//GetDeath.

Looking 4 a new interweb meme.

BTW im impressed on the amnt of buzz the AltJew post//concept//idea is still getting.

AnCo is the nu Radiohead via excessive veneration from blogosphere ultimately leading to altbro disdain (even tho they’re still better than 90% of the other shat out there)

@an, It’s kind of weird… I don’t think radiohead was really big during their “time”… back when OK computer and especially Kid A were supposed to be big. So it’s interesting and I wonder if such a situation could happen again in the future. And just to remind you EVERYONE HATED Kid A when it was released.

@anony, first of all thats completely retarded because Kid A was a major breakthrough for Radiohead and the scene that they were trying to reach with that album was definitely reached, I mean sure the mainstream culture may not have liked it but thats not who it was for. And secondly, Animal Collective is doing what they enjoy doing and making music that they love and that is about the ONLY thing that they have in common with Radiohead. Animal Collective is just amazing and Avey will continue to write music regardless of how it sells which I believe it will sell very well because he is a musical genius. Thanks.

@Static, I have a lot of respect for animal collective but I’m not just not that into them…. I don’t dislike their music but it kind of makes me feel disphoric if that makes any since. I keep thinking that I could really get into them but it hasn’t happened yet…

@blitzkreeg, pitchfork these days usually FOLLOW rather than lead…. unless a band is already fairly established. The probably hold too much influence and I have been reading them less and less mostly because I just don’t agree with most of their reviews. They tend to either over or underrate it seems. Not EVERYTHING is that great and rarely is anything that bad. Dear Science is really what seems to have done it for me… overrated… and then of course EVERYONE has to overrate them. It’s certainly not 2008’s hissing fauna.

I don’t like Animal Collective. Nor do I see the appeal. I gave them a shot, I even went to see them live. But no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t enjoy their music, and no matter how long I forced myself to endure their “songs,” they never grew on me. I’m told that their music is best when you are under the influence of psychedelic drugs. But why should I have to do drugs to “get” them? That just seems like a cop out to me. Especially when I consider the fact that just about anything will seem interesting/intriguing while on psychedelics, including my wall.

P.S. Last night was the series premier of The Real World: Brooklyn, and Carles blogs about an album that was leaked months ago? More MTV coverage please. The City is a gold mine as well.

The Stereotypes are gross. I don’t really ‘get’ college a capella. It’s zany and cool for like the first ten minutes of freshman year, then it’s actually really fucking annoying.

animal collective is the most important band of our generation. merriweather post pavillion is their masterpiece. a really beautiful album.

but, as “important” as they are, that doesn’t mean everyone is going to “get” them. some of you will obviously be left behind. don’t be upset, it’s not your fault.

also, you do not need to be on drugs to enjoy a.c.

@thommy yorke, radiohead are like 40 years old. most important band of the last 20 years def but if you’re under 25 they aren’t really “of your generation.” i’m 20 and kid a came out when i was 12 so i don’t think i can claim them as my generation. animal collective is probably most important band of my generation.

@d, You have to define generation which is always really hard… it’s a label and bad one at that. There are plenty to kids into the beatles and radiohead and whatnot and plenty of 30 somethings who simply don’t identify with their own generation.

Regardless I don’t think you can discount the relevance of Radiohead. Certain bands and albums speak so greatly to certain people that they can’t help but think that others are just not “with it” or that the band is perhaps before their time but that doesn’t mean they are. I have my own band obsession/s but I don’t ever expect them to become understood on a widespread level. As a fan and an obsessed one at that (of an unnamed band) the very concept of fandom fascinates me. It’s ridiculously one sided and you will never truly know a band or a musician outside of their music which may or may not be an accurate representation of them. The very idea of having such a high level of respect and esteem disturbs even myself and yet it can’t be denied.
