I think the informal theme of this week is ‘letting go of our bloghouse past.’ While bloghouse will live in our hearts 4ever, we must turn our back on it in order to move forward in our quest for authenticity.
I remember when I was a young alt, just learning that he ‘loved electro music’, a music video really spoke to me. It was by the French band Justice. The name of the song was “D.A.N.C.E.” The video featured progressive imagery in a way that pushed animation to a new level of righteousness.
But then I saw this hybrid Justice + SoME + Coca Cola advertisement.
Can’t believe it, yall. Can’t believe it’s over. Can’t believe the video that made alts ‘fall in love with bloghouse/electro/just wanting 2 dance’ has been acquired by the world’s most popular brand–Coca Cola.
I miss the days when the Coke brand was more mainstream/obvious / sweet /entry level Toy Story 3d animation

Just feel kinda like my whole world is falling apart. I knew that eventually the whole world would realize that I listened to the best + most fun music in the world, but now that I don’t even listen 2 it any more and they are trying to utilize the aesthetic, I am just feeling a lot of emotions. Part of me wants to listen 2 more Justice again, and be proud of them + fit in with mainstreamers, but then another part of me wants to throw my Macbook into a Fiery Furnace.
I remember when the Daft PunkBros were in a denim advertisement for GAP, I was kinda proud, because I was really into them. They also weren’t TOO mainstream at that point, so it was still authentic to like them and not turn ur back on them since they were still a very niche product.
Feelin kinda sad. I remember I used to be really into SoMe’s design aesthetic. I thought it was unique to the Ed Banger crew. I really felt like it was organic, and it BELONGED TO US. but I was wrong.

In the end, u just have to realize that everything is a brand. And every brand wants to be significant, so u can’t hold that against ppl. Brands can’t last 4ever–so u must do whatever u can 2 maximize ur value before you metaphorically ‘die’ a.k.a. become ‘irrelevant.’
//// Miss u 2k7.
Does n e 1 know if they are putting cocaine back into the Justice formula of Coca Cola?
Gonna be sad when AnCo is in a commercial. Not sure if they will ever be ‘relevant’ ever again if they sell out like that.
Does the music still belong 2 the fans after it is in a commercial?
Or is it less authentic since it was used to ’sell something’ besides records/mp3s?
Just going through a lot lately. Bye
PS: Think I’m gonna retire from using Justice as a bloggable meme. goodnite moon.

@thetruthyall,
haha that was funny – how about the **anonymous blogger versus the identifiable blogger** Which is more meaningful? i feel this is a valid question.
**WHICH GIMMICK IS MORE AUTHENTIC**
WHICH IS MORE AUTHENTIC – DOES HE HIDE HIMSELF TO BE MORE ALT SO HE DOESN’T LET HIS BRAND SELL OUT TO FAME. EXCESSIVE RECOGNITION FUCKS UP ALL THE STARS
OR
IS IT HIS ALT EGO HIDING SO THAT IT CAN BE MORE AUTHENTICALLY EXPRESSED. KINDA ANALOGOUS TO THE GUY WHO CAN SAY FUCK YOU ON THE PHONE BUT NOT IN PERSON IN AN ARGUMENT?
paralleling carles blog here for example
http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/2009/02/which-gimmick-is-more-authentic.html
ps- i personally *love carles* think he is brilliant and beautiful and radically refreshing to have in this here existence….but still the question stands.. which is more authentic. HELP.

@acrosstheuniverse, technically they had some song on some car commercial. its kinda how electronic artists made money pre-bloghousplosion.
dont be sad. as soon as the release a new album (in 2k13, according to the daft punk schedule) the mnstrm will have forgotten this happened

Jousteeceeee=Not a Meme yet.
If a Meme than Jousteeceeeeee=new life style/brand.
Pretty much if they are a meme than a new way of life has been bestowed upon us: tits, shattering bottle over head, marrying AZNs who run away, doing blow of iphone/nannie, leather jackets, crosses, etc yalll

When people sell out, the justification (NO PUN INTENDED) is that they want to get exposure, right?
But Coke isn’t going to want you in their commercial unless you’re already getting exposure and Street Credits. So the reasoning is bullshit.

there is plenty of good new bloghaus you just aren’t blogging about it, but we I must admit I don’t think we are ever gonna find another jewsteece/christine castles/the teenagers a.k.a: hipsterrunoff meme/bloghouse electro circa 2k7-8, in 2k9 :(
ps if our future/on going search for authenticity includes being conceptual-bros why don’t you blog about it more?
rather then focusing on the past(miss u)

Why would you’re love for electronic music be born and die with Justice just because they “sold out”.
Congratulations to them for being recognized on such a huge scale in such a short amount of time, electronic music has much more to offer than justice, and it’s being around for a lot longer than justice. I think you just loved the ideal that what you listened to was exclusive to you, therefore, this made you cool. Now that “you” feel this has been taking away from you, you’re sobbing.
Just to confirm my point:
“They also weren’t TOO mainstream at that point, so it was still authentic to like them and not turn ur back on them since they were still a very niche product.
Feelin kinda sad. I remember I used to be really into SoMe’s design aesthetic. I thought it was unique to the Ed Banger crew. I really felt like it was organic, and it BELONGED TO US. but I was wrong.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m hearing electronic music more and more when i’m out in commercial/mainstream clubs, who used to be playing fucking Riley or Rihanna. It’s probably just a fad, and if it’s long lived and people who follow trends because they think it’s cool and exclusive or makes them fit in with the crowd, what ever the reason, then fair enough, at least some of us can say we stuck by artists, we’ve been there since the start/before it went commercial, who haven’t sold out the quality of their music (MSTRKRFT) when they went commercial and affiliated with the world’s largest brand.
I say congratulations to justice, i won’t listen to them any less, i look forward to their next album and all forthcoming productions, I love electronic music, justice are just ONE act that are probabaly really well known.
I’m sorry that you lost your love for this genre over something so trivial.
