We finally did it.

[Via Music Television Buzzworth Blog]
We finally did it.
We “made it.”
We are more than just blogworthy–We are buzzworthy.
When I was young, I would watch MTV, and watch ‘rock stars’
then ‘rock stars’ turned into ‘hip hop stars’
then ‘hip hop stars’ turned into ‘alternative rock icons’
then ‘alternative rock’ turned into ‘indie’
then ‘indie’ kinda of turned into some weirdo ‘power pop stuff’

I sort of grew out of what MTV told me was ‘cool’
but like the Martin Lawrence King Jr.–I had a dream
A dream that one day
the mainstream perception media moguls
would realize that the alternative population was justified
for being vehement supports of ‘what we like’
That it is better than what they listen to
because the reason we like it
is more ‘organic’ than the reason that they like it.

One day we will take over
and mainstream will be alt
and alt will be mainstream
and the term ‘maltstream’ will no longer describe things like the Garden State Soundtrack

Our minds will be free of the ‘pressure’ to think about so many external factors
and bros will no longer be able to argue ‘Why can’t u just like the music because it sounds good?”
Because there will be no more external factors
Because we will all like the best music for the right reasons
The must will just sound good.

We are buzzworthy.
We are more than just a meme.
We have created an artistic space
where the mainstream can consume us.
This is every artist’s goal [via monetization].

Wow. As much as I love Animal Collective, I’m still finding it somewhat difficult to believe that they’re ‘making it’ via MTV now. Hope they do a live performance for MTV (does MTV do that?) and just play all their less accessible music circa 2000-2004. Most people I play Animal Collective for still don’t really like it, so I’m interested to see whether these youngsters in Milwaukee (referred to in the MTV article) actually enjoy Animal Collective, or if they’re just eating up the buzzzz.

On a separate note, Little Boots seems to be gaining A LOT of attention recently via Atlantic Records.

but little boots is/was totally mainstream from the beginning, except their labels market them as indie/discovering same thing with Ladyhawke/LaRoux/Santogold/The Ting Tings. Notice how it’s all girls.

@la ¡Cinta!, I just don’t see it. Just because the blogosphere is one gigantic echo chamber for anco right now doesn’t mean they are that big. Does anyone have real numbers to suggest that they are actually going mainstream?

Is it time to close the blog now? We’ve reached pinnacle mainstreamosity. Its only a matter of time b4 AC gets a moonmen. If we ever want to become functioning ad-alts in society who r part of pop culture, we should begin the transition now.

Crls, I think its time to start the posts about Jo Bros and Miley Montana. Goodbye friends, if only Heatherton had made it to see this day. I so need him rite now.

I think it’s really just the concept of being able to “collect” animals that appeals to a mass audience.

    -Tamagotchi’s
    -Beanie Babies
    -Pokemon
    -Animal Collective

If you can’t see a developing trend, you must be completely retarded.

Animal Collective are so mainstream and lame now. It’s time to hitch our collective (no pun intended) wagon to another dim star until they reach the brightness of mainstream success.

Grizzly Bear in 2k9. Friendly Fires in 2k9. Wavves in 2k9. Black Lips in 2k9. Black Dice in 2k9. Nite Jewel in 2k9. VEGA in 2k9. Here we go Magic in 2k9. Port O’Brien in 2k9.
