Trying to ‘make sense’ of my site statistics

Yall. Looking at the cities that visit HRO the most. Trying to ‘get a better sense’ of who reads HRO.
From what I can tell, people in suburbia do not read HRO. People from ‘the city’ read HRO. I can conclude that only white people and rich people read HRO, because they live in ‘the city’ and ‘can afford rent/Macbooks.’

Can u find urself in this list?
Are yall ’surprised’ by a city that u ‘didn’t think was THAT authentic?
Still need more demographic info, because I basically ‘guessed’ this list.

@brian, I think this list might have confused West Van with the west side of Vancouver (maybe even the West End as well?). Everyone new to town does that, so I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever figured out locations based on IP addresses did as well.

    @reilly,
maybe, but west van is its own city whereas the west end is part of ‘vancouver’ so maybe not.
Kinda backs up Carles’ hypothesis that his blog is mainly read by ‘rich white people’ but throws the ‘people from suburbia don’t’ one out the window.

culver city is below the 10 so nobody cares. its also where ppl who just moved to LA move

weho is so stupid and superficial it turns around becomes alt. the obviousness of the sunset strip. melrose ? la cienega. only people who are true LAers live in weho cause they can stand the retardation it becomes.

alt LOS ANGELES NEIGHBORHOODS: silverlake, echo park, downtown (by los angeles street), korea town, west hollywood, SE hollywood, venice, los feliz

beverly hills and newport? thousand oaks? HRO this is just stupid….
houston, atlanta, san diego, OC?…are u fuckin stupid

@brro, agreed, I’ll give you WeHo, although reverse-retardation was the reason I failed out of prep-school science.

Still love it over here in Echo Park the most. But here is my list, in order:
    - Echo Park – the standby
    - Downtown – the blossoming
    - Silver Lake – the “soon to be ruined by a bar called stinkers”
    - Eagle Rock/Highland Park/Atwater – the rookies
    - WeHo – the one that I’m giving to you because you typed a lot of words.

@seaeych, reverse retardation is epic. embrace the cokehead sunset strippers 3 decades too late and soak it up. harder to be truly alt in the hills than in silverlake (alt for beginners)
only prob with east side is its pretentious. get over it. ppl u hate r laughing their way to the bank might as well join in AND be alt.
hate southbay, westside, culver city though i tihnk we can all agree.

@seaeych, authentic (i.e. poor and east side) Alt-core hoods of L.A.–
    silverlake
    echopark
highland park (recently flooded by art students, musicians, ex art students, art teachers, and blacks)
downtown (via skid row and the fashion district)
    chinatown (via spitting asians)
lincoln heights (via three thrift stores around the same block and cheap tacos every direction you look) (and footsies).

if you were to put eagle rock, then mt. washington and atwater would make the list too, but they all are kinda stale.

west side alts are a different breed entirely. they are ‘richer,’ ‘busier’ and don’t ‘know’ as much about ‘culture’ (via not being broke and sensitive)

And yup, eventually we’re all gonna get swallowed up by a fault line and die horrible horrible deaths, that can only be compared to our horrible and disgusting lives. But you know what, I’m okay with that because at least I have a sense of humor. Lick on these nuts and suck the dick.

Carles u r a fool dont u know that most ppl round up. Living in that city means u r withiin a 60 mile radius. They could still be living in the suburb.

    ex:
I lived in Chicago, 20 minutes away but did not have the 312 area code but it was still classified as Chicago but not technically confusing huh??

    or

I lived in LA but not really I lived 30 min away or with traffic 63 min away. I just did not want to be classified as the girl who lived in the valley.

Losta kids know wat im talking about.

Nobody really lives in the city center and lotsa asian kids pretend to be white also.

Yall. Should this list be a lot shorter [via the list on the AmAppy bag]? Is it alt 2 live in a town that all the other alts think is alt? Or is it more alt to ‘ditch conventional alt wisdom’ and move 2 a town that is not on the AmAppy bag/not on Carls’s list/in the 300-500 range on Carls’s list???

Ah, you forgot Cape Town, South Africa. Yeah there are a lot of ‘alts’ here. There are even white people here. Rich ones too. Trust fund kids who have moved to the city to ’study’ when really all they do is coke when they go out and weed is a foodgroup to them. All they go on about is the music, they are musical snobs. They play the ‘indie game’ – knowing more obscure bands than you. Trying to own records but really they download recommendations from last.fm or something all day. They dress in ‘zany’ alt styles they saw on a website/blog/hell even a shop window whose owners copied someone else anyway. They study languages, or some are doing commerce but keep that quiet as if it’s a ‘drag’ when really they know deep down that in a few years they will become corporate sluts.
Yeah, welcome to ‘alt’ ’scene’ in Cape Town.
But others just lol @ HRO because it fits in any contexts, even in Africa…

R there mor MelBros that read HRO as opposed to Sydney Alts? Syd has the ‘more authentic feel’ but are we out numbered?

Is Australia as a whole ‘not alt’ are we ‘trying to hard’ should we be happy being ‘immune to swine flu’ are we to far away from tao lin / ellen kennedy / other short story writers to ever ‘get it’. Will going to Oxford art factory ‘make me Alt’? where else in Sydney makes ‘you alt if you go there on regular occasion’?

I have ’spoken to CRLS before [via twitter, offering youtube videos he cld use in his posts, and did use in his posts] does that make me an alt bro[via the cobra snake trying to get rich off ‘alt parties’ ‘Alt life’ ?

#137 Spokane, USA: closest Top 500 location to my whereabouts in the Canadian Wilderness. Sad that it’s closer than all the alt-Canadian cities… especially ’cause Spokane is a terribly unpleasant city. Also, there is a disturbingly high concentration of KKK in the area, but it is close to the Sasquatch Festival.

#221 Kelowna, Canada: Kamloops is close to Kelowna, and is far more alt, but didn’t make the list at all. I guess Kelowna does have an Am Appy… but it’s also the unofficial douche-bag capital of Western Canada.

#274: Abbotsford, Canada: the home of Chad Krueger and the Nickelbacks and a lot of Christian farmers: http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/2009/05/trying-to-make-sense-of-my-site-statistics.html#comment-49190

#41: Calgary, Canada: have trouble accepting that Alberta is alt; it’s cowboy + oil rigs. But, I guess Pitchfork just wrote about The Rural Alberta Advantage, plus Calgary has a lot of rich art students whose parents are “Oil Barons/Tycoons”.

#38: Victoria, Canada: Gets a lot less good shows than nearby Vancouver, but I suppose you can take a ferry from Victoria to either Vancouver or Seattle. And there are a lot of bunny rabbits on the streets.

#50: Edmonton, Canada: another Alberta city… kind of up near the North Pole. Edmonton kids like to brag about their indie-music scene. Indie-bands to come from Edmonton: the terribly mediocre Shout Out Out Out Out.

Overall, it looks like Western Canada totally slayed Eastern Canada!

    don’t encourage them, carles!

yes i’m talking to you. y’all people who sit at c1 and smoke your cigarettes in unison and cried when that guy left the tiger tones. need to get the hipsters out of christchurch. send them back to wgtn. need freedom and space and less people at c1 so i can get an outside table/table at the back on cold days.

    GODDAMN YOU CHRISTCHURCH.
