As yall know, popular rapper M.I.A. has a personal brand that is ‘very political.’ I’m not even sure where she is from, or what this flier is encouraging me to do. I think it is for some governmental election or something. She is apparently ‘giving away an mp3′ for people who vote. I’m not sure if you get a ‘redemption code’ after you vote, or if this is some sort of online election, like hotornot.com.
I wonder if M.I.A. has enough reach to impact an election. Maybe if the election was in Sri Lanka/Brooklyn, but I am afraid that it will be a difficult for her to sway the vote of people who don’t listen to indie/mainstream rap. I feel like if I were a political candidate, and some sort of ‘zany minority with ties to terrorist groups’ supported me, I would say ‘thank u, but could u keep quiet.’
It’s weird when celebs have a personal brand that is ‘political.’ It’s like u know they are yapping about something ‘important’, but you sort of just filter it all out as ‘noise’ and just think 2 urself ‘thats nice that they wanna make an ‘impact’ or something.’

If MIA knew anything about politics she would know the only way we vote is by putting our money into one thing or another.
Elections are always stolen, they’re all a play and MIA is stupid enough to pose as a “socially conscious and responsible” public person by voting and telling others to vote instead of saying, Hey how about not spending your hard earn pennies buying from companies that will turn around and fuck you over…like those “cool ass” Nike’s air force 1 she wears, all sorts of alcoholic drinks, Made in China’s, etc…oh no, that’s not “fun”.

kinda h8 it when people think that their message is so important that they can overlook design. kind of understand that MiA is passionate about saving the children, but if it were me, and if couldn’t find any1 to do it for free, I’m going to hire a fucking designer. and if I’m going to use word for design-work, I’m going to go seriously bust out some clipart.

Just heard that justice moved to the record label Elektra, does this mean that they’re sell outs, or they are more established musicians cause other pre mainstream successes such as The Doors and Bjork operated from that label?

mia is the most unlikable ‘musician’ in indie rock. she’s really just a product/pop musician who has producers do everything for her but people respect her b/c she’s ‘brown.’ if she was ‘white’ everyone would look at her just like any other shitty popstar.

She actually produced most of arular by herself. It was peaches who introduced her to the Roland MC-505 from which she made songs like Galang.

agreed… saw her at a festival in 2007 and she spent most of the time saying “yeaaah mother fucker” and getting people to come up on stage and dance and requesting “MORE GUNSHOT EFFECTS PLEASE” in the middle of every song. it was really bad.

it was clearly made by some politically active british indialt who wanted to cash in on the aforementioned sri lankan rapper’s political clout and mass appeal, hence the pilfered quote.
do you really think m.i.a. would allow something with her name on it to look like this?
check the merch section on her website. there would be tiger stripes like a mothafucka on that poster if she had anything to do with it, which she didn’t.

it’s these kinds of tired posts that will be the death of HRO. there is to little substance or relevance for this post to be considered even a little ironic or humorous.
furthermore putting “quotations” around everything, the over-abbreviations, and the ridiculous over usage of all things “bro” (not so much in this article) are getting a little played out = time for a new shtick.
