More than gross.

True, the piece does something that is positive in principle: It is useful to point out how the media landscape distorts what matters and what doesn’t.

But this post does it in a very offensive way.

Here is why: 1) it seems to mock (faux-authentic) concern for Neda’s tragic death. 2) It uses the very image of her death to create a humorous juxtaposition, perhaps pleasing readers but never Neda. 3)The fact that many readers find it offensive means that others who are more closely concerned could truly find it hurtful.

Also, given the clear potential to confuse and offend, Carle also has a responsibility to take into account that it could actually inflame conflicts in Iran in unpredictable ways. (Remember the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed?)

A good point in theory, but horribly misguided in execution.
