Should I goto Parsons, SVA or Pratt?
Will I learn the things I need 2 learn in a fancy skewl, or should I stay at a state school even though I h8 all of my mainstream classmates who don’t ‘get’ why the world is beautiful in the way that I see it?
What should I study in design school?

the reason for this startup is simple: carles tries to fit into too many age groups, consumer projections, etc.
“going to prom” “design school” etc., he tries to appeal to too many groups to be in and ‘alt’ / etc / whatever the word this moment is for cool,
he wants to be similar to the ‘masked dj / exotic / unkown is cooler / ‘it’s not about me’ aesthetic, so he doesn’t let us know who he truly is, his age, etc.
i’m not about that. i’d like to consider myself more real.
let’s all do it together.

@HeStompedTerra, the problem is that nobody is gonna loan you 30K to NOT go to school. kind of a dumb argument – you’ll actually have a better chance of having 30K in disposable income at some point if you get a college education. that being said, this kid is a ghey.

Do what you want. The worst you can do is read what we all have to say and become even more confused. People are going to say things on here just to create more angst for you. I’d suggest talking to councillors from the schools your looking into and make sure this is truely what you’d like to do with your life. If it is, honestly, fuck the money. If you become successful in design that will pay off whatever you’ve spent on school. Like I said though, this is YOUR life ultimately. Make this decision based on what YOU want to do and what’ll bring the most happiness.

here’s some real advice. you already have a leg up on me – when i entered college i had no clue what i wanted to do, and you already have a sense that you want to be in the design field, which is great. As someone who went to a “state” school and who now has a decent job (art director at an ad agency) and relatively “happy” life – Education is what you make of it.
I formed really strong relationships with my professors, went to class every day and “did the best I could”. By senior year, my professors had very few internships to hand out and i was lucky enough to get one. Once I graduated, the firm I interned with offered me a full time job and I have been employed (at various places) ever since.
What I am trying to say is – it doesnt matter which school you go to, your talent and the relationships you create (read: networking) will propel you into the professional world more than any piece of paper from any “fancy” school will. Just my opinion.

you could always go to a cheap school for two years, work your ass off and then transfer to wherever. Essentially, its where you graduate from not where you begin your college career. I am taking twelve hours of summer school, then going to University of North Texas and from there I will transfer to the Fashion Institute of Technology. This is mainly because I cannot afford to go to FIT to begin with. Like you, I do not want to end up with a pile of debt when I graduate. So, hopefully my plan will work and I will be successful in my design career. You can only hope for the best I guess. Good luck buddy!

My teacher went to Pratt. She interned with Milton Glaser. That would not happen at a cheap school. It’s not just what you learn, but the opportunities that are present as well.
[and if you don't know who Milton Glaser is then maybe you should save your money and not go into design :/]
