Sometimes I wonder about the role of the female within alternative society. Are women ‘more respected’ by alternative men, or are they still ’sex objects who are meant to do chores’? From what I understand, non-self aware females ‘just want to get married and birth kids’, even if it means that their husband is aloof and distant (as long as he makes at least $100K per year). Sometimes I feel confused by the motives of alternative girls, bc it seems like even they ‘don’t know what they want.’ Somtimes I wonder if females can be ‘authentic alts’ if they are using ‘altdom’ as a rebellion against their parents.
I feel like mainstream women raising families, who are ‘trapped’ in their situations might be stronger women than ‘lil alternative cunts’ because they know how to put other ppl first. I am not sure what alternative women want to be when they grow up. Possibly something in ‘corporate retail’, or possibly ‘public relations’, or if they are lucky, ’something artistic.’ I am not sure how much altGirls really want to independently ‘make it’, or if they would be happy ‘marrying some rich bro at age 26 just in case their life doesn’t pan out.’
Not sure if AltWomen would know how 2 do ‘mainstream chores’ like washing dishes, clothes, dusting, swiffering, cleaning toilets, driving vans, going to the store, planting flowers in the front lawn, living in suburbia, carrying a child, or other mainstream female duties.
Feel like I have always semi-ironically done ‘chores’ and stuff, and sometimes used them as an excuse to bond with people from my local scene. Like when me and all my ‘flatmates’ would ‘get buzzed and do laundry.’

I feel like there is more pressure on women to ‘conform’ to society’s expectations of ‘being clean’, ‘being happy’, and ’staying tidy.’ Seems like it is more socially acceptable for a bro to end up being ‘really tragic’ bc he is a 45 year old man who is ’still trying to be alt.’ Not sure if altWomen’s flaws within alternative society make them ‘more functional within society’ than altMen, but I think they might be a good thing for physical mental health.

I think most people find anti-feminist comments hilarious, because they are, but they actually respect women as other people.
Also, a hell of a lot of the females I know really don’t know what they want to do with their lives. I’ve never really thought about it before, but actually, they just seem to not know what to do. But is lack of motivation the cause?

i think main stream alt girls are fucking lazy. i have a fulltime alt job slanging skateboards, i am 23, i can paint, i am one of a few girls i know who really likes to cook, clean, and do work in the garden, consistently is the key word- lifestyle and that is only because i am mexican. idk i dont mean to be the Sober, Humorless, Irate Feminist but since alt culture still exists within a much larger, pervasive patriarchal structure (that no one really cares about anymore bc the ‘progress’ women have made ‘against’ sexism overshadows the problems that are still very real) then even alt gurls with super progressive bfs are going to struggle with gender roles. hipsters are markedly indifferent (unless you are a Not-a-Hipster and then you have opinions about ‘issues’) so i see no reason that any Real Ideological Change or w/e would occur.

@anna, these mens…. they r all the same. but you’re right. look at last year’s election. all anyone wanted to talk about were hillary’s pants suits and sarah palin’s 6 figure wardrobe allowance. no one ever mentioned what obama and mccain were wearing. a lot of people criticized hillary for not being feminine enough, and people had a lot to say about palin’s responsibility to her family and special needs child. of course, i suppose i have to say they ragged on mccain for being old, but neither of the guys were analyzed in terms of gender roles the way the women were. i guess we’ll still be doing a lot of the “women’s work” as long as it’s still in some ways a “man’s world.”

find it interesting that alt gurls tend to reject stereotypes of women as quiet obliging homemakers but seem to embrace (at least on the net) the image of women as super whimsical/waify alt fairies. this is particularly manifest in contemporary photography and is totally unrealistic and lame and just another less obviously offensive means of objectification that no one can call out because it’s ‘all about the uniqueness and magic of gurls’
