Such Great Heights, Such Great Bros.

I saw this meme ‘going alt viral’ 2day. Some hardXcore bros covering ‘Such Great Heights.’ Sorta made me yearn to chill with some bros who were in ‘hardXcore bands’ in my local scene, but worked full time at some coffee shop, making sure that they ‘totally ruined the coffee shop’s chill vibe’ by playing hardcore music. h8 places like that. Sort of ‘grinned’ when I watched this vid, and imagined a hardcore tween ‘finding meaning’ in it. Feels weird how all music that sounds like this is ’stuck in some sort of time portal’, not really ‘moving forward.’

Meme via dailyswarm

(If u were in a screamo band, would u be the ’screaming bro’ or the ‘bro with a sweet voice singing the ghey parts’?)

Damn. Can’t believe I have lived to see this meme. Postal Services are the whole reason I got into ‘electro’, and probably one of the key forefathers of meaningfulcore. Before the PostyService era, I knew that music was supposed to be ‘cool’, but I hadn’t yet found a voice that really spoke to me in a meaningful, earnest way. Then Benjamin Gibbard & Jimmy Tambarellbro came along and changed everything. Really just changed the way that ‘indie music’ was written, both musically and lyrically.

I remember in a previous musical era, every1 thought that screamo + hardcore was going to ‘catch on.’ Unfortunately, only bands like Taking Back Sunday ‘made it’ because they were attempting to be the most meaningful, along with other bands who sang about high school era themes. I think that this video is a metaphor for ‘what could have been’ if the Postal Service didn’t invent the meaningfulcore genre of ‘electro indie.’

Feel like it is incredibly ’stupid’ that Postal Service haven’t released a second album yet. Feel like they are losing out on millions of dollars in band revenue [via digital sales and merch]. Just feels like everything that tweens consume these days is trying to ‘replace the Postal Service.’ Think that they should at least make 5 new songs, and possibly just ‘launch a tshirt line.’ Feel sad that Death Cab for cute ‘doesn’t even sound meaningful any more’, but their brand is so strong that it doesn’t matter. Seems like a Postal Service relaunch would ‘melt the internet’, kinda like ‘In Rainbows’ did.

Wonder if Pitchfork would give it an 8.9, or if they would ’shit on it’ and distance their brand from ‘tween bullshit.’ Probably would just use the review as ‘an opportunity to reflect’ or showcase their knowledge of ‘indielectro history.’

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, ‘come down now,’ they’ll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
‘come down now,’ but we’ll stay…

When Postal Service dies I hope there will be a massive outpouring of grief similar to that for Michael Jackson or maybe that guy from Pantera.

I thought this shit died long time ago. This might be more meaningful than HRO since this shit is selling out! What’s up with the big ass AD with Jack’s new band and the girl from the kills? how much was the pay? when are your finances going to be discuss?

Come on Crls, better be careful or other meaningful (or meaningless) blog might take over and you’ll end up 2k9 next year.

I feel so old When I read HRO now, like a wise old man listening to an older wise man talk about his life experiences and how he “wouldn’t have done anything different” but he wishes he knew then what he knows now.

I feel like we went on a great adventure together, but now it has taken us back home to sit in bed and watch Jeopardy.

I feel calm, content, and ready to grow old with all of you, slowly learning to feel regret and shame for the clothes we wore and the music we listened to these past few years (it was all “bullshit consumerism”, anyway). I feel ready to cut off my alt hair so I can get a regular job.

Do you think the future will remember how we were, HRO?

Years from now, when the next Adam Sandler-brocomedy-dbag makes “The Zany Janitor”, and it’s set in 2007, do you think it will be full of jokes about blipsters and shutter-shades and bangers and post-irony?

Or will people just remember the 2000’s for our sweet white-colored iStuff, organic wheat bread, hybrid cars, and quirky comedies with childlike artwork and an “indie-like feel”?

I’m ready to start getting nostalgic for right now in a simplified, condensed way. I don’t have time for the whole 20000’s. Telll me what to remember. Should I skip electroclash and go right to bloghouse? What’s more authentic pre-electro music? HxC or twee pop?
