I have heard mixed reviews of the live Crystal Castles experience. Many tweens have found the concert to be ‘fucking amazing’, but older people and electro purists think that the set is ‘fucking garbage.’ Many times, the band plays sets that are 15-30 minutes long [unverified statement]. The band is apparently is really ‘moody’ and ‘difficult to work with’ [via internet rumors from miscellaneous people who 'know important people']. It is basically just ‘flashing lights’, ‘pre-recored electro beats’, and ‘Alice Glass yelling into a microphone.’ [unverified statement] Sometimes they also ‘get in fights with fans’ and other edgy, bloggable stuff like that.
I am interested in this new era of the Crystal Castles. I thought that they were just going to be ‘irrelevant’ for 1.2 more years, then ‘release an overhyped+overblogged’ followup album that altNewsOutlets covered more bc of ‘familiarity’, and less bc of ‘artistic merit.’ But now it seems like they might be interested in becoming ‘the best Canadian band since the Arcade Social Fire Scene.’
All artists are trying to ‘be authentic’ and ‘provide an inimitable live experience’, and many bands achieve this by displaying their musicianship. I think ‘playing live’ might be a good idea for the Chrystie Cashes. Think all bands are ultimately trying to ‘look cool’ by looking like a male rocknroll band. ‘Playing guitar’ makes consumers feel comfortable watching ur band play. They don’t want to see bandmembers ‘hunched over a laptop’ or even just ‘playing tambourine’. A live audience needs to be ‘captivated’ by ur performance, and enable the much-blogged-about phenomenon of ‘word of mouth’ advertising to take place [via twitter].
I am interested to see them on tour, and see if Alice can play some mad ‘riffs’ on the guitar. If CC comes out to your area, let me know how ‘the Alice on Guitar’ experiment works out.

CC has good to great production pending who you are speaking to. I dig and dj there stuff but I have heard so many horrible stories from there live shows that I would be very nervous to book them or buy a ticket to a show.

CC suck hard live. Alice’s voice is too loud in the mix and not distorted enough, which is not good for someone with a terrible screechy voice. The strobe lights are physically painful to look at after a while. Alice is bitchy between songs.

CC may suck live if you are standing there and trying to ‘watch’ them ‘play’ music. they definitely didnt suck when me and my closest bros and althoes danced ‘our faces off’ and freaked out drinking SPRX and PBR PNDR’s. the bass was loud, the strobe enhanced the trippiness, and all the sweaty hipster tweens gave me wicked chub…me and my bros tugged each other on the car ride home… it was authentic and meaningful at the same time. one of the best shows i attended in 2k8.3 @aliceglass: come back to philly and give me a little tug. plz. thnx.

If guitars = more authentic than authenticity is overrated.
We spend so much time listening to music, keeping up with the most relevant songs/bands/remixes, then @ night we go out and watch these bands “recreate/perform” this same music “live” in front of us. Cuz that makes it more ‘meaningful’. Even if the music was made on a laptop.
Music has changed soo much & people experience it soo differently. But people still feel they need to conform it to 60’s/70’s paradigm; where music is most authentic when performed “live” and experienced “live”
Would rather listen to CC in my room/@ a party then “live”
Starting to think the whole concept of ‘Authenticity’ is a sham.

@rrrororoor, Authentically good is always implied. Authenticity is certainly in the eye (or ears) of the beholder. It has a lot to do with how we feel we can relate to that person. Some people will always hate certain bands no mater what. In many cases this has less to do with the band than their inability to relate.
