African Americans gather in public space to celebrate Michael Jackson's birthday.

Was just goin on a jog through the park, then happened 2 stumble upon some celebration of Michael Jackson's life/birthday. It seems like even though Michael Jackson converted to a 'white person', the African American community still claim his as their own.

Feeling confused abt the racial legacy of Michael Jackson.

There were tons of 'MJ impersonators.' It seems hard to look like MJ at the time of his death, since he looked so scary. This bro seems like he has too many 'black features.'

Seems like this MJ impersonator was 'not white enough.'

Seems like this MJ impersonator was 'not black enough.'

Even lil kids were dressing up like MJ.

It seems like Obama and Michael Jackson are the two most important African Americans of all time.

The community decided to send a 'get well soon' card to MJ's address in hell.

Saw two of the hollow 'talking heads' that African Americans usually call 'authentic.'

Seemed like a lot of people were trying to 'exploit the MJ brand' to make a few dollars. From what I have read, this was the business plan of Michael Jackson's father.

Saw some 'artist' who decided to try to sell her MJ doodles.

Ran into my aunt. she was selling some of her 'jewelry line.'

My uncle brought a suitcase full of magazines 2 sell.

My other aunt was selling a bunch of burned CDs of MJ's greatest hits.

My cousin was trying to sell printed out pictures [via inkjet printer].

Saw a security bro wearing cargo pants. Seemed functional.

I don't think that there were enough portapotties based on the size of the crowd, but I think that is because the NYC parks and recreation dept probably 'racially discriminated' against this event.

Took tons of pix with my new cammy phone.

This latino man brought his picture with Michael Jackson, along with his lil bird.

Even ran into John Liu--he's running for comptroller. Seems like a chill bro, just trying to reach out to some minority groups.

Got kinda sad when I saw this sign, and realized that not every1 'gets' graphic design.

Saw a white bro.

Ran into a family who seemed unhappy, like their mom forced them to 'like' Michael Jackson just so she could continue reliving her youth.

'You'll grow into it.' - my uncaring dad after buying u an oversized shirt because it was cheaper than kidz sizes

Lost white child
In sea of black people
based on racial stereotypes
deeply embedded in my psyche [via suburbia]
all I can think is
'this child is in danger.'

Overall, seemed like a chill time, where u could just stand around and listen to Michael Jackson music, bond with community members, and take pictures of things that 'seemed interesting' with ur digicammy.

Sorta seems like

Do u miss MJ, or do u feel like he 'already did everything he was supposed to do with his life' and now it seems chill to 'enjoy his music even more' now that he is dead?
Or do u wish he was still alive so that all of the tweens didn't get this opportunity to 'discover' how good His music was.

Not sure why the Tin Bro was there.
