How do u deal with ur parents being super rich?

Took this picture in my parents’ private jet. I am considering taking it down from facebook before I go to college so that I seem like a ‘normal kid.’

Photo via lookbook

I have always wanted a normal upbringing, where I would have a healthy mix of ‘earning success’, along with some lil boosts along the way of having ‘nice shit handed to me.’ Unfortunately, as I have grown older, I have had to rely on the connections of my parents along with their financial support more than I would have liked to. It definitely changes the way that authentic people look at me. Most people can’t buy whatever they want and can’t do whatever they want [via financial constraints].

They think that I live in some sort of dream world, and that I’m not appreciative for what has been given to me, but I am actually very appreciative and very humble. I have problems that they can’t even relate to. I am rlly worried that when my parents die, I won’t be able to stay as rich as I am now. I feel like there is something inside of me that wants to make a lot of money so that I can be ‘double rich’ and just live in Manhattan or something. It would also be cool to marry another rich person, then we could pool our incomes and give money to ‘the arts’/'innercity schools.’

It’s hard dealing with social perception and class issues. I wish people could realize that rich ppl are ‘real people’ too, and that we want authentic human connections as much as other ppl. There’s more to people than ‘how much money they make.’ Wish people could see all the colours of the rainbow, instead of just ‘green’ [via metaphor about money].

R u ‘rich’?
do u h8 ‘rich alts’ who buy ‘designer shit’?
Would u trade ur ‘normal childhood’ for a $100K boost in ur parents’ income?
Did ur parents make/lose a lot of money during ur childhood?
R u afraid to fly in a private jet because of the increased risk of crash?

do u think that ‘money’ is ‘bullshit’ or ‘what makes the world go round’?
Is it hard to form authentic connections with alternative ppl who have had ‘everything handed 2 them’?
Is there such thing as an ‘authentic upbringing’?
r u a ‘private jet alt’?

many things i’d like to comment on this post but first i’d like to get across that i think money is bullshit. after working on a farm this summer i have c0me to the c0nclusi0n that bartering is the way to fucking go. MONEY CONSUMES WALL STREET. WALL STREET CONSUMES MONEY. look at fucking bernie madoff. how come it was such a huge deal for everyone? money has become the idyllic source of happiness, peace, acceptance and social standards in our culture today. some say if we wiped out the currency across the world the people would go crazy. what would people live for? mainstreamers would mellllllt without mula.

fuck cash. barter for a better tomorrow.

@jjj, A dancer who was high in a field from a moment
Caught my breath on my way home
    Couldn’t stop that spinning force
    I fell into you
    Everything drowns you to giggle
You are up with the flower and I care

So the dancer who gets wild to the deep reveling rhythm
But I am always away for weeks
that pass slow like mind gets lost
Feeling envy for the kid who danced in spite of anything
And we’re out in the flowers and feel better

If I could just leave my body for the night

Then we could be dancing no more missing you while I am gone
Then we could be dancing and you’d smile and say I like this song
And then ours would meet them we will recognize nothing’s wrong
And I wouldn’t feel so selfish I won’t be this way very long
    To hold you in time
    To hold you in time
    To hold you in time
    To hold you in time

And we’re dancing, early hours drunken days finally ended
And the streets turn for pillowcase
And I fumble all good lie
Then the ecstasy turns the writhing light through our windowpane
Now I am gone, I left flowers for you there

I love how rich alts try to live and dress like they are poor. I feel like people perceive being hip and being relatively as a truly genuine alternative lifestyle. But lifestyles pass and they will throw a suit on and follow suit. No problem with that. Spend you money wisely (doesnt mean donate) and work for something that will essentially help your community or on a greater scale, humanity. Dont just buy cars and live nigger rich (not racist/half black). Be smart which is usually alot to ask from a spoiled ass alt fuck.

rich parents are the (not-so) secret financiers of indie music. srsly so many indie bands do their music stuff full time and somehow make a living, theres no fucking way they make enough to live without a part time job. i think spencer krug is one of these people (via a hunch). without rich parents, indie music would look a lot different. my point is fuck them.

as someone who grew up quite poor, i am sometimes quick to write off “rich kids” as “snobs” or “jerks”. sometimes it’s legitimate, but sometimes it isn’t. I’m not as bad about it anymore, but when i was in high school i had a lot of distrust of most wealthy kids, not because they were wealthy, but because they often lacked a lot of values i find important.

that being said, i wish i was rich, or my parents were rich. i feel like everything would be better in my life. i’d have financial support to pursue my hopes and dreams in earnest.

    maybe one day.

it ain’t the money it’s what u do with it. money i$ just a form of power and a way to accumulate social capital like access to good schools, good brands, travel and so on. The important thing is to mix having enough money with other, ‘authentic’ lifestyle choices.

my parents are dweebs in some ways but i appreciate what they did for me. they have a nice income, like $100k. so they could afford trips to europe and paying for me to go to a notorious stoner college where i got to lounge around a lot and pursue a frivolous, theory-laden humanities major.

so that much was kinda posh. but they also chose a inner-city urban area with a good brand to raise me in, plus eccentric hobbies that exposed me to a lot of ‘alt’ lifestyles as a kid. so i got a good mix of street cred, training in alt lifestyle, and education/connections/sense of entitlement.

i think the key to an ‘authentic’ childhood for rich families is to spend that $$ on giving your kid weird experiences. ditch the fuckin plane. teach them the good brands but don’t buy them so much. give them some experience that makes them feel like an outsider, then let them know they’re safe in your well-protected, burglar-alarmed 19th-century urban home.

It’s been well documented that approx. 85.2% of the “artists” in Williamsburg/PDX are spoiled rich kids who receive monthly “allowances” from their parents so they will be free to “make art” and “be creative” instead of having to “sell out” and “become corporate tools” like their less privileged peers.

Why, you ask, do these people even exist? Simple. Working in law=hard. Working in finance=hard. Earning and living and struggling for survival=hard. Spending your days sitting in coffee shops reading fashion mags and “staying current” on your favorite blogs, shopping with Daddy’s plastic, attending “cultural events”, writing “poetry” and working on your “experimental” music= EASY.

The irony is, all it takes to make great art is talent and inspiration. One does not necessarily need to suffer or starve. What it means for the rest of us is that there will be more garbage to wade through in order to find quality and authenticity.

i am a serving member of the british army and have been for 14 years since the age of just turned 16, today i went for a walk around edinburgh scotland where i am currently based here there are alot of people who have money, you see it every day big houses everywhere fast expensive big cars and as i was walking i was thinking what are these people doing to help other people if they all help as much as people say they do how do they afford they fast cars big houses, i earn £32,000 a year and for that i have served my country forgeting no putting to one side my family and the thought of making enough money to stay at the level i am or even making more money, in one month i go to the most dangerous region of afghanistan and i leave my wife and my 4 year old son, if something happens to me they will get round about £250,000 not even enough to buy ahouse and live comfortably for the rest of their lives so i think even though yes you have different sort of problems it is the rich that have a problem with the class divide instead of worring if you can keep yourself as rich as you are with your parents alive why dont you think now how you can help the people that keep you rich. makes me laugh when you see programmes pn the television raising money for charities especially at these times of global finacial problems big stars are saying we should give what we can i cant spare anything but these stars who make millions still have 5 6 7 8 homes drive the worlds most expensive cars do what they please but preach to us the people that are suffering because of the greed of the rich bankers bussieness men and so on i think you have more things to be worried or concerned over thatn if you apper normal at college and if you wanted that in the first place why put that pic of you up at all hmmm. ah well what a world we live in if you really want to see normal i invite you to edinburgh and i will show you normal people and what they worry about. enjoy college

Hi there, I just found out about your blog via google and it seems nice.
I’m not rich, maybe above the average but not much, and I know that most rich kids are spoiled in some way or another. Rich kids don’t know what it is to not always get what they want.. it mostly depends on their parents but they live this kind of lifestyle. I know it looks like I’m tagging, but it’s true.
