As you know, I have refrained from blogging about the Girl Talk live experience because of his increasing levels of inauthenticity. However, I noticed a lot of terrible things happening at his show that have to do with one of my biggest passions–’going green.’ For those of you who don’t know, the phrase ‘going green’ relates to ‘doing shit that will help 2 save our environment and keep humans around 4ever.’ As u can see, Girl Talk’s show is not very ‘green.’ Not sure what the opposite of ‘going green’ is.
It seems like the Girl Talk is a ‘celebration of waste’, like they are just converting a local park into a ‘huge fucking dumpster.’
Not sure if toilet paper shooting technology really enhances the live music experience. Most bands I have seen did not construct ‘waste machines’ that fling paper into the air–instead they focus on making authentic indie rock.
People even find a way to use the wasted toilet paper as ‘temporary clothes’, then they probs ‘wiped their metaphorical asses’ b4 throwing it on the ground.
Probably is some sort of ’status symbol’ at Girl Talk shows, much like mainstream kids are ‘proud of their Abercrombie’, alts at GT shows are ‘proud that the Lord delivered them some toilet paper’
Photos like this make me 100% certain that the ice caps will melt, and the oceans will flood 90% of the land on Earth during my lifetime.
If I had some tweenage kids, I probably wouldn’t let them attend a Girl Talk show. Not only are there structural dangers when it comes to ‘200 kids crashing a temporary stage’, but also it seems like a ‘big ass’ ‘tweenage fuckfest.’
Seems really unchill. Worried that there are ‘altbro predators’ there.
Ultimately, I am enraged that Girl Talk promotes such waste. We are trying to save the environment, but it seems like his live show figures that if ’shit gets crazy’, then it is worth it. The concept of ‘toilet paper’ is wasteful, as is the act of ’shooting that shit into the air on top of a sea of alts.’
Ultimately, I am sad that Jaime, the latino man who works as a foreman for the Parks and Recreation Department will have to clean up the mess.
Put litter in its place.
Support GREEN artists.
Save the Environment.
Save Jaime.

LaughedOutLoud at Tween Doing Michael Jackson Move in the third to last pic. Then felt bad for feeling superior to tweens because they’re only trying to figure out an identity. Then missed my own tweenage years because of the inescapable disenchanted feeling of post-adolescence. Then laughed again at Tween Doing Michael Jackson Move.

It’s not even ironic to be environmentally apathetic (via tweens using toilet paper bought in 20-packs at Costco to destroy our natural milieu). Girl Talk’s anti-environment stance (via providing toilet paper to the not-even-entry-level alt concertgoers) makes him irrelevant and not authentic. I feel sorry for Jaime – he seems to be a pretty chill alt bro.

@Funky Rutabaga, Does toilet paper used at a single band’s concert really rank high up there on environmental abuse? The entire industrial system is propped up on an utter disregard for the environment, and with globalization, environmental damage is outsourced to poorer countries. Costco can advertise its products with Green ingredients, but they’re still made in factories that spew pollution, they’re still transported to our country on boats that take a shitload of oil to cross the ocean.
Not saying Mr. Gillis is exempt, but just that I can’t understand being outraged at a single ‘gear’ when the entire ‘machine’ runs on the same thing.

@ne pas, I get it, I do, I do! I’m a vegetarian (and mostly avoid dairy), I rarely drive, never litter, and between you and me (and the dozens of people who will read this), I don’t even use toilet paper when poopin at home (time my poops for before showers, so fresh and so clean (clean)).
I get our ‘collective passion 4 greening’, and it makes me feel good to participate in it. But it’s definitely pointless when put in perspective of the larger picture of 19th-21st century industrialization. Remember, we’re just a subculture – the majority of America isn’t making active steps to go green, other than buying shit that says “Made With Green Ingredients!” on it from Wal-Mart (a hilarious/sad contradiction).
And that’s just America. The majority of the world population doesn’t even know about ‘greening’. Not putting them down for it, just saying.
TL;DR Too little, too late. ‘Greening’ just makes us feel better, it doesn’t produce any significant results. I still like to ‘greening’, but it’s tough for me to get sad/mad when someone doesn’t participate in such a shallow gesture.
And if that’s the entire point you were making by using Carles-speak, my bad for missing the irony. It’s getting tougher and tougher to recognize lately, and I end up just randomly deciding whether to respond to something with irony or sincerity, regardless of its content.

@ok ok, Alt is going through a tough period, questioning its existence and having its meaning diluted by being adopted so increasingly quickly by tweens. ‘The Altcession’.
We are all nostalgic, ok ok. We all long for the 2k7 days of electro and mocking bad party pix. But things have gotten srs. It remains to be seen where things will go from here, and I’m not sure we can go back.
