As yall know if u follow my twitter profile, I had been having a lot of trouble fitting in at my high school. There are tons of minorities, and most of the white people at my school are really into hiphop or sk8r punk culture. No one really 'gets' me, therefore, they make fun of me. It has been a really difficult time, since I end up eating lunch alone, and even had my Scion keyed in the parking lot. It's really hard to be a MiSUnDeRsToOd teenager. :-( ...but srsly...
N e ways, I was fortunate enough to be accepted to my local community's magnet school for science, engineering, the performing arts, design, technology, social science & the arts. Basically, I have the opportunity to be in the presence of some of the most free-spirited, inspiring teenagers who are dedicated to the art of learning. Our high school really understands what it takes to turn a young person into a thriving member of society, some1 who will contribute more than just becoming some 'dead-end-fuckface in a deskjob', slaving away at his cubicle, working for some bullshit company that does nothing to make the world a better place.

I'm excited that they provided us with Macbooks, the ultimate tool that true artists use to change the world. Whether it is Photoshop, Ableton, Adobe Premiere, or even Microsoft Office (Macintosh Edition), Macbooks truly give you an opportunity that mainstream computers can't. I honestly believe that if you ever find yourself sitting in front of a Dell Desktop, you should look into 'offing yourself.' You are probably trapped in some situation where you aren't helping the world, and working for some one who wanted mad discounts on tons of computers ordered in the bulk.
It feels good to be in a new school. It feels good to be surrounded with an infrastructure that will truly enable me to do great things with my life. This high school will enable me to get into basically any college that I want to attend. It feels good to attend a learning institution that understands they can get some sweet PR if they invest in trendy technology for their students, instead of running lame commercials like community+technical colleges usually do.
Do yall own a Dell Desktop?
Does ur employer provide u with Dell Desktop workstations?
Did yall go to some sort of 'magnet school'/'school for the arts'/hi-level private school/prep school?
Did u go to some sort of mnstrm big-ass public high school?
How did it make u the person that u r today?
Are laptops still 'alt' or it is better to have a desktop?
Is Windows 7 the new iPhone?
what were u like in hi school?
Comments
ooo
@brittany,
indeed. I said the same thing.
OOh.
This is actually quite amusing because I go to one of the premier private high schools in my region of the country, and they provide us with Dell laptops. Yes laptops are still quite alt, but then again Dell's certainly aren't. It sucks to have a mix between the two but....oh well
@hymbe2,
laptops in general are not alt, lol.
dell and macintosh are the same thing, meaning that they only care about making money. & they both make laptops and desktops.
Dell Zeppelin
As I type this on my beat to shit macbook i think about the superior intellect that my prep school allowed me to develop. It helped inform me about all the decisions I have as a consumer. These decisions are easily the most important ones because we all define ourselves by what we consume vs. what we produce. Really glad that forming a personal brand is as easy as buying the right stuff.
@Haha, tl;dr
Jewish schools only give free MacBooks here.
Sometimes i miss Compaq & dial-up & 3 1/2" floppy discs & ms/dos & the windows '97 sew much that i consider offing myself.
But then my iPod shuffles from 'Idioteque' to 'All i need', and i thank steve's jobs for providing me lyf.
@Moargan Friedman,
Will retro computing become the new alt?
Typing this from AOL installed from my free AOL floppy on my beige tower with my rolly ball mouse,
also I have a joystick for my flight simulators

@Knobs, HRO on BBS (via my 9600 baud modem)?
@Knobs, tl;dr playing 'wolfenstein' + Doom II @once
@Moargan Friedman, brb, math blaster
@Moargan Friedman, 3D Sports Boxing on a 286 with 1mb of RAM
Shit, this post = my high school experience.
@Cannibal Astronaut, why is ur post so blue
I'm so glad someone else in the world understands that those who don't come from enough money to get into a magnet school and own a Macbook are simply inferior specimen. I thank science every day for creating Macs to make discriminating between mainstream scum and enlightened, demi-god artists as easy as looking at the computer someone is using. After all, who ever made a difference in the world AND came from a poor background? Socrates was nothing but a penniless hack.
@Bysby, lol at college jargon, how many drafts did you make of this post?
@Bysby, 'geez' you sound like such a 'bitter' bro/bitch
I would think u were poor or something but i dont think poor ppl know abt the internet
kind of like how tweens in third worlds wear our old clothes from the 90s and think its 'cool' in an unironic way
@Knobs, I think this is pretty standard written english... but lolololololol
Hate my mainstream high school, hate my meaningless life.
@jimmm,

I feel like Mac Books burn out quicker than iMacs. Don't really feel like I would need to 'hit up the comp' so much so that I need to carry it around with me..
macs are about as alt as henry rollins.

One theory as to why people [brand] is that it is too difficult to take in all of the complexities of other people as individuals. Even though [brand]ing is inexact, it is an efficient way to mentally organise large blocks of information. Categorization is an essential human capability because it enables us to simplify, predict, and organize our world. Once one has sorted and organized [brands] into tidy categories, there is every incentive to avoid processing new or unexpected information about each [brand]. Assigning general group characteristics to [brand]s of that group saves time and satisfies the need to predict the social world in a general sense.
Another theory is that people [brand] because of the need to feel good about oneself. [brand]s protect one from anxiety and enhance self-esteem. By designating one’s own [brand] as the standard or normal [brand] and assigning others to [brand]s considered inferior or abnormal, it provides one with a sense of worth.
Some believe that childhood influences are some of the most complex and influential factors in developing [brand]s. Though they can be absorbed at any age, [brand]s are usually acquired in early childhood under the influence of parents, teachers, peers, and the media [and the HRO]. Once a [brand] is learned, it often becomes self-perpetuating.

hardly any of your brand is formed through experience. it's mostly passed on genetically. that's why identical twins raised apart form identical personalities, likes and dislikes. And unrelated siblings (eg. adopted) brought up in the same household, with the same friends at the same school turn out to be completely different.
@douchebag, that's why identical twins raised apart from identical personalities always reunite wearing the same jordan v's
@douchebag, I tried to read it but it wanted to log in.
I got a MacBookPro 15" abd use my dad's iMac 24" and MacBookPro 17"

@gucci, it took me until your comment to complete pooping, i had to try/push so hard i almost threw up, slight constipation comes with being a heroin addict, and i just used my last wet wipe, i prefer to spoil myself by buying wet wipes in addition to toilet paper instead of buying anything apple, so i'll stick to my asus eee
@ryan, Go on...
went to a 'mainstrm' high school. only 1 who listened to AnCo, had a shitty dell laptop, took about 15 minutes to turn on. moved off to college, got a mac, made alt friends. things are good now.
@Jurgis, Ur life should be made into a 'triumphant' alt movie. Look into selling the rights.
@brobro, yah, sounds good, want 500 days of summer bro to play me.
@Jurgis, you give me hope.

I own a vintage [via 2k3] Dell Desktop. I never got rid of it. Miss u, Soulseek 4 Windows...
No. I was not provided a Dell Desktop.
I went to a 'Massachusetts preparatory school' before returning home + attending a 'magnet school for mathematics and the sciences.'
The mnstrm high school in my district sends every1 to 'Seton Hall,' 'Fordham,' or 'Brown.' Srsly, those are the top 'matrics.'
Feel like I had a 'superior education.' Went to a 'fucking impressive university.'
It made me 'hella confident' [via not having to pay 2 cum]; I am not afraid to 'fucking drop' the H-Bomb if I kno that it will get my 'member' stroked/suckled/surrounded by the 'pale casket/pink palace' [via Joseph Cornell + the vulva].
Desktops are 'pretty kewl/chill.' I possess a laptop computer, but I only use it if I'm going somewhere.

I was 'fucking chill+hardcore abt my academics' in HS. Feel like it was sorta worth it.
@Bipster, h8 u cuz u could have gone 2 commy college and gotten the same 'result' but u dont realize it
@\\\\\, I wasn't cool enough for commy college.
@Bipster, i recommend u can still take classes 2 build ur authenticity with flexy schedj offered by most of them (via them fitting into 'the poors' work hrs) then u can tell all the ppl in the mailroom that u went to 'the cc' and they might 'smoke u out' during lunch one day cuz u made an effort to connect with 'Common People' like dat jam by The Pulps
@Bipster, You may have gone to a nice university but you still talk like a dumbass.
@ehm, bros4lyfe.
@Bipster, my friend goes to the same 'fucking impressive university' and says every1 is mnstrm... && the girls are not keut... && he dropped the 'H-bomb' to a cop 1 time ==> cop just thought he was a 'd-bag'... however i do not doubt he will be 'fucking rich' in the future.
@broseph stalin, the girls are definitely not keut. And aside from seeking a member-stroking, dropping the H-Bomb makes you 'a fucking' douchebag.

when i'm in my local authentic coffee space [via free wifi], i used to feel comforted by other ppl with macs. i knew who else was aligning their personal brand with being a 'creative type.'
now i'm confused bcuz it seems like a lot of mnstrmrs and mall sk8 bros at my state college are trying to 'look creative/free-spirited/intellectual' by owning mac books.
idon't know who my friends are anymore.

My Toshiba lappy has 1. Is it trying to 'pose?'
Do PC 'alt' keys 'actually work?'
Does an 'alt' key make ur compy/life more alt/mnstrm?

hi crls
at work i use a dell desktop, at home i use a macbook. where do i fit in?
Feel my Vaio is pretty alt in terms of PC's. Graduated at the top of my class at a shitty mainstream state college. Maybe I can get into a meaningful graduate program and become a cool dad or something, and give my alt children a better life than me. Probably will off myself before then though.
i just put a apple 'mac' sticker i found on my hp laptop and saved $1500.
@ummmmm, me tooo!!!

Apple in general throughout the ages has created some amazing stuff: remember back to the good old ages of big ass iMacs in kewt lil fruit colors then the iPod in general, and iTunes, and iPhones. They created such amazing technology that almost everyone can relate to. Yes I do miss the good old days of napster and my Walkman player and listening to the dial up of the internt, but hey life is so much fucking better. Long live apple
windows 7 will be about as alt as pc in general.
mnsteam consumers only look at ipods/pearpods when finding a new notebook.
to be alt = to be legit, ppl should do their research via google.com and stop feeding hungry company's lolol
Man, my high school fucking sucks. All of the students listen to shit like Avril Lavigne.
I guess that is what I get for moving to a small town, in the middle of the mountains, next to New Mexico.
Tonnes of kids at my government high school are "indie kids" who like owls, Vampire Weekend, vintage, etc. It really shows that everyone's lives are totally "meaningless", no matter how "alt" someone is.
I got kicked out of an alt magnet school for standing across the street and not going to class. Now I go to a mnstrm black ass hs. I am so Brooklyn.
I think Macbooks are really nice machines - but not worth £1000, or $2000. Still bought one though :S. PCs definitely give more bang for your buck, and are more DIY in the sense that everything isn't integrated as a consumer product - you can gut and rebuild to your hearts content. With Macs, you pretty much have to rely on the warranty and Applecare. Still, in my experience they are fucking lovely, aesthetics and performance wise. If you can get one for free (or even a decent bargain price) then awesome, go for it.
When moving to another school
When moving to another school or university, the transition period can be a little hard on you. One way to avoid this is to complete your studies online. I got my online teaching certification at online universities and I didn't have to integrate or fit in any group that I actually disliked.
I can understand what you had
I can understand what you had to go through. Adjusting is not always easy. I know that because I had some issues when I was in high school as well. Things come and go and sometimes it's better to focus on the good ones. That's when I decided that I want to know people better, and this way I have chosen one of the masters in psychology. I'm very happy about it and I think it's the best choice I've ever done!
I'm glad to see that the
I'm glad to see that the difficult times have passed and that you have adjusted well. Also, I agree that it's very cool that they gave you Macbooks. We live in a world of technology after all and we need to play by its rules. What can I say, get a good anti-virus and a registry cleaner for your notebook and have fun with your new classmates!
