What were the best Television shows of 2k9? (Not qualified 2 write this post bc I don’t have a TV).

I saw some alt with a mural of the cast of The Simpsons on his skin, in the art form of tattooification. It seemed like a bold statement, because your skin is an accessory that will be with you forever. The decision to let people know ‘I chill in front of the TV’ might not be a good one, since we don’t know if ‘the TV’ will even be around in 5-10 years. Now that sites like youtube, hulu, funnieanddying.com, and collegehumorbrovideos.edu exist, many content creators exist on the internet, creating viral videos that no longer allow us to grow/live/love/learn with a cast of fictional characters.

I wonder what cast would be the altest skin mural to get. Maybe ‘Family Guys’, or perhaps ‘The Office Staff (Ft Jim & Pam & the 40 Year old Virg).’ Possibly a tattoo of Tim Allen from ‘Home Improvement’ or the Banks family from Fresh Prince of BelAir. Worried that too many ‘dumb ppl pretending 2 be smart’ are into SouthPark/the Daily Colbert Show franchise. Really need a skin mural so that I can finish my tat sleeve.

What was ‘the best television show of 2k9′? Are there ‘new shows’, or are people just into glorifying old franchises? Wonder if tv shows have to ‘get better’ or if tv watching is such a loafcentric process that consumers don’t really demand that much from TV. We sorta just need a ‘cast of characters’ that we can find identifiable for a 2 year gateway period, then we can sort of ‘lean on them’ to be there for us over time, even if the show just perpetuates existing gimmicks + 1dimensional characters. Wish we expected as much out of TV as we do out of bands.

What were the buzzworthy television shows in 2k9?

How about that Office spinoff show that ‘failed/tanked’? Probs had to do with the fact that they selected a terrible female lead, born from the over-adoration of 80% of modern post-SaturdayNightLive personalities.

Wonder if ‘SNL’ is still relevant? Seems like a lot of ppl still watch it/talk about it on the internet. Not sure if that is directly related to a ‘better product.’

Not sure if alternative demographics have a TV show to turn to. What is the deal with ‘Gossip Girl’? I have heard it portrays alt kids/rich kids, and sometimes they use soft porn 2 get viewers.

Does n e 1 know what the deal with the show ‘The Mad Men’ is? From what I understand, it is some sort of reality show set in the 1960s, tying in real events with a quirky cast. Have heard that ‘critics/bloggers’ ‘absolutely love’ the show. Wonder if it is legitimately good, or just internet-hype ‘good’/overrated.

‘The Sun is Always Shining in Philadelphia’ also seems to have a rabid fan base of ppl who buy complete seasons of DVDs. Not really into Danny DeVito as a comedic actor.

Miss being a kid/tween, back when there were shows that directly appealed to me.

Maybe I should focus on watching shows that are meant to showcase a fascinating/sad segment of humans. Wonder if MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’ is the future of television [via the National+Natural obsession with Guidos].

Need a cast of characters
That I can grow with
enjoying their lives’
until the show ends
and I feel dissatisfied with the conclusion of the show
(Will I feel just as dissatisfied with the conclusion of my own life

Ross & Rachel getting married/having a baby
Vincent Chase and his bros masturbating on Entourage
Bart Simpson/cartoon character ‘getting in2 troub & learning abt life’
Will Smith fighting aliens in The Fresh Prince

TV seems fun & comfortable
learning abt life
while staring at the screen
instead of chilling on social networks
living life, interacting and chatting
while staring at the screen

Wonder if TV on the Radio
will rename their band
‘Internet on the TV’

Not sure if ‘Television’ is a sustainable industry
Might just start a company that produces viral vids
and gets paid per millions of views

What is ur fave TV show?
Do u buy complete seasons of shows on DVD, or just stream them on ur compie?
Is the best TV Show better than the best movie?
Is the best blog better than the best TV show?
Do u wish the internet didn’t exist?

it is important to note that if YOUR interested in tearing down our shit culture, you do not participate in any of it’s distractions, including, and i’d like to say foremost televison, as well as porn, and videogames

we have the potential to become gods
but every life given to the pockets of some ignorant fucks will just lessen the chances

get off the internet, in fact, get off here, pursue philosophical studies, build an ideological foundation(everyone has an ideolgy, even cynics)

if your witty or alt enough to read this website then you have enough of it in you to put that intelligence and will into something more meaningfull(i.e. not so transitory, HRO won’t be here forever and it isn’t saving the starving african babies)

Curb is the best show of all time. I like how TV has a few shows that are written, directed by and acted by actual talented comedians, rather than a production team. I feel this is very authentic and also a bit ironic to me, as TV seems like the least authentic meduim of expression when compared to mediums like film or music or the like. Prettay… prettay…. prettay good!

@umbros, What’s the deal with the Flight of the Conchords? Are they supposed to be ‘funny’? I remember I watched an episode, and it wasn’t very funnie, but there were quirky characters who wrote songs about zany stuff. The songs borrowed popular aesthetics from music over the past 50 years, sort of ‘parodying’ these genres while musing about the dilemma that the characters found themselves’ in. Not sure if I should ‘respect them’ for writing their own songs that sound like old songs, or if I should find them to be inauthentic.

@Lauren, i dont know. I think i might have just watched it to see Rhys Darby as the character ‘Murray’. I believe Brett & Jemaine to be skilled song writers even if they do parody other people songs. It is a bit confusing. The humor is not for everybody i guess.

30 rock, mad men, possibly the soup but that doesn’t really count. SNL slowly gets better, this round just needs time to mature. Jersey shore and the rest of the MTV/VH1 “reality” shows are short-term entertainment causing long-term damage to the entire industry…lowering standards daily.

‘Community’ released the best debut album/season this year, out of left field. They are the xx of tv of 2,009.

‘30 Rock’ stayed at a ‘creative peak.’ They released the best TV show of 2,009. They are the AnCo of tv of 2,009.

‘The Madd Men’ is a new-ish buzzshow that receives ‘critical acclaim’ despite being ‘lower key’ and seeming like it’s ‘from a different era’. They are the Grizzly (vs.) Bear of tv of 2,009.

‘Curbside Enthusiasm’ had a ‘reunion season’. They are the Pavement of tv of 2,009.

‘South Parking’ cranked out a decent 13th season, but ’sillie’ ppl still enjoy the poop jokes/mnstrm tendencies of the show. They are the Yo La Tengo of tv 2,009.

@chilisfan, no chillisfan you are so wrong! Every character in 30 rock is so well written.
You’ve got Tina Fey character, who has the power to project whatever she wants via tv but who’s personal life is slavish to the creation of the show, plus who comically “can’t catch a break,” PLUS who plays straightman.
You’ve got Alec Baldwin character, who has the power to do virtually anything because of how absurdly rich he is and who is corporate to the point of (maybe?) exaggeration.
Tracy Morgan actually just straight up plays himself, but he also wrote a book called “The New Black,” so whats not to love?
Jenna, perhaps the most overlooked character in the show, literally IS INSCURE ABOUT BEING OVERLOOKED IN THE SHOW THAT THEY MAKE IN THE SHOW, which is so meta it rules. AND Kenneth is like this bizarre parody of innocence that somehow regularly interacts with people who have more access to market data and who have more of an idea about what it means than any regular person.

So yeah, my passion runs deep. 30 Rock rules. Fav show right now.

is ‘breaking bad’ the sleigh bells/beach house/choose.ur.own.response of 2k10?

is ‘bill moyers journal’ the very best (via radioclit {subvia LBJ}) of tv?

not much of a tv watcher…more into film shorts online. if anything, It’s Always Sunny is always a magical adventure of fun and joy. FOTC is decent, but season one was more interesting because the songs were written first, then the script was written around those songs.

I have a friend who’s child will not stop eating, to the point of obsesivness. She is not hungry, but would rather eat than play with children. Will take food from strangers plates, will snatch food from any child and eat it, even after a big feed. She constantly wants to eat.

TV is so annoying. I don’t understand what all of amerika sees in it. I can’t even stand to watch CNN anymore because of how many times they say ‘twitter’ and walk us over to that fucking smartboard.

My sister sits in front of the TV all day watching the Office. She also ‘h8s music’. totes feel bad 4 her, but mostly just for myself.

I have to vouch for Mad Men…I think poeple over look it because of how quickly it got popular. It’s true the masses usually will lead you astray but not on this. Mad Men is brilliant! The characters are sharp; they each sorta stand out in their own right; they’re dynamic-like real people. I think the fact that its a time piece is also awesome-time pieces(when well done) really give me a sense of perspective..you should watch an episode or two online..you’ll be pleasantly suprised

six feet under changed my life. it was the best show ever produced in my opinion. brillant writing and cast. the characters (a family) become a part of you over the 5 seasons and you’ll come out of the show loving and knowing them better than your own family and feeling like a part of your life ends when the show does. /sigh.

    also, dexter = fucking brilliant.
