I have never even heard of PAPERMAG, but maybe this gimmick was a good idea so that more people would find out about their magazine and/or website. They basically just declared a bunch of people to be 'beautiful.' This is a great strategy for any magazine or website that wants to get a lot of clicks /advertising impressions. They basically just have to gather a list of 25-100 people, then call them some sort of glorifying adjective. If they pick a wide enough range of famous people, they can get blog buzz from different genres of outlets, and theoretically increase their 'reach.'
