I love my son. He truly is the mirror image of me. It’s kinda weird how kids are so impressionable… sorta reminds me of consumers… Maybe kids and consumers have the same kind of brain… all of us have so many wants and needs, and maybe products really can fulfill us/make us happy. Srsly though… u should see his iPod… we have a lot of the same pop-electro sensibilities, but also an appreciation of indie conceptual ballads.

I feel like I might buy these Daft Punk dolls for my son. I never really let him watch traditional kid programming (crap like Sesame Street, Muppets, Dora The Explorer, etc). Mainly just put art films/indie movies ‘on repeat’ in his play room DVD player. He absolutely loves the hit film Electroma. I don’t really think it is healthy for him to identify with characters that every other kid on the planet has identified with for the past 20+ years. I want him to be a pure alternative spirit (This is why I made his mother birth him in a pool of Sparks while listening to Animal Collective’s hit album “Sung Tongs”).

I want my son to have a ’special’ Christmas, and not just because it is Christmas and kids ‘get kewl shit.’ I need my son to have a truly unique Christmas that he will remember forever. I am considering ‘booking’ a relevant buzzband to play a few of their hit songs when he comes down the stairs on Xmas morning. Might also commission some sort of mp3 to be created by Sufjan Stevens.

////beginning 2 brainstorm my xmas list
////what do u want 4 xmas?

I recently saw this picture of an African American with a ‘=w=’ tattoo, and wondered if it was ‘natural.’ I am not a racist–I believe that you are entitled to listen to the type of music that you want, no matter what your skin colour is–but I just couldn’t help but wonder if it was difficult for an African American to get a tattoo of a band that means so much to so many white indie fans. I feel confused about this tattoo. Wish I knew the ‘back story.’ Wonder if the tattoo belongs to an 18 year old who ‘fell in love’ with the song ‘Island in the Sun’ when it first came out, or if she was into ‘the Blue Album’ or something.

It seems like this African American could experience ‘backlash’ from her friends and family for getting this tattoo. Like she would show her extended family her tattoo, then they would make her play Weezer. Then all of her family would ‘make fun of her’ for ‘being too white’, making her feel guilty for breaking away from traditional African American interests and tastes. I feel like it would be ‘more acceptable’ for a white person to get a ‘hip hop tattoo.’ I feel like they would experience less backlash within their social circles. It seems ‘unfair.’

Are yall tired of all of the racial double standards that exist within racial groups?
Is it harder 2 be ‘black’ or ‘white’?
Do u know any altAfricanAmericans whose family ‘makes them feel bad’ for ‘being too white’?
Should black people be able to ‘truly empathize’ with the lyrics of Rivers Cuomo?
Does have a =w= tatty make u a ‘blipster’, or an inauthentic AfroAmerican?

Hooting@the Blowfish is a new band that is coming out with a lot of sweet mp3s and getting lots of coverage on the pitchfork zine.

They seem to be a multiracial band, appealing to black people, indie people, alt people, and mainstreamers.

It seems like they just want to promote chill vibes to any1 looking to chill, and they seem to be one of the largest ‘chill wave’ bands on the planet. It seems like they have totally transcended the now defunct ‘glo-fi’ genre.

As you can see by their post-modern album cover, Cracked Rearview is surely going to change the way that music + album art are created for the rest of time.

I think that they will appeal to both young and old people.

Here is a video for their hit song ‘Only Wanna Be With You’. This is a song about vulnerability & admitting that ur stuck with some1, and some1 is stuck with u. Sorta like that 1 Huey Lewis song.

It seems like with this song, they have transcended all genres. They are rock, chill, bro rock, country, and even ‘music for black people.’

The lead singer, “hootie” seems to be emulating the Tiger Woods aesthetic, possibly sponsored b Nike.

The band seem like they are all very good friends. Like they can hang out at interracial watering holes, such as Chili’s and Applebee’s (but not McDonald’s).

I think that this is their ‘press photo’ that magazines use when they blogwrite about them.

Here is the song ‘Let Her Cry’, a video about love, loss, and letting ’some dumb bitch’ die alone.

I am excited about the Pitchfork magazine picking up on this band. I think that with the right amount of blog buzz, and coverage from magazines and Pitchforks, they will be around for a long time to come.

When I hear Hooting@the_blowfish, it makes me happy, as if I am actually experiencing the feeling that Louie Armstrong felt when he wrote the song ‘What a Wonderful World’, which is actually about a utopian music scene where all good music rises to the top, no matter what the members of the band look like, or what their aesthetic is. A lot of people say that the music industry is ‘in the shitter’, but I honestly believe these next 10 years are going to be the ‘Golden Age’ of Pop + Indie music.

Please friend this band on myspace, so that if they get big, we can say that we wrote about them first, and found out about them because of blogs.
http://www.myspace.com/hootieandblowfish

Do you think this band will ‘make it’, or will they experience a ‘backlash’ if they get to popular?

I feel like in many scenarios, it is ‘incredibly troublesome’ when a woman looks like she has suffered some sort of ‘physical harm.’ However, I think that bruises have been branded as ’sexy’ within alternative culture. Maybe alternative people aren’t trained to see ’severe warning signs’ when it comes to physical/mental abuse. Think that bruises on kute lil indie girls are sorta make the girls seem ‘more intriguing.’ Like there is a story behind her that u want 2 ‘find out.’

This graph is meant to educate yall about abuse, and how it can be mental + physical + sexual.

Do yall ever use any of the tactics to keep ur relationship alive?

There’s just something rlly sexie about ‘the unknown.’ Like u have no idea why a girl would have bruises. Here is what usually goes through my mind when I see a lil alt girl with bruises:

Maybe she is in an abusive relationship…but maybe that means u can be the next BF in her life who ‘treats her right’/exploits her insecurities.

Maybe it’s not abuse. Maybe she just does xtreme stuff to rebel against her parents, like ‘trainhopping’ or something else that is unsafe.

Maybe she ‘puts out’ in a crazy way.

Maybe she ‘did it to herself’ to ‘get attention.’

Maybe mutilating herself is ‘the only way that the world can see the amount of pain she is in.’

Maybe it’s a sexie birthmark/beauty mark.

Maybe it is a warning sign to ’stay away’, no matter how ‘attracted’ u r 2 her brand.

Seems like bruises are sort of a way for alternative girls to ’seem more authentic’ than ‘just another lil mainstreamer pretending to be alt by putting on some Am Appy.’ It is like bruises are a ’seal or approval’/'certificate of authenticity’, demonstrating that you are not just ‘living a lifestyle’, you are immersed in a true alternative life. Worried that more lil kute girls are going to start ‘bruising’ just to improve their stock within their local alternative markets.

From what I read on wikipedia.com/science, women bruise very easily, particularly white lil girls. I think there is a supplement that you can take to prevent bruises called ‘Women’s One-a-Day.’

Worried about what tweens know about physical abuse. Seems like they might think it is ‘just part of growing up’ and ‘becoming famous’ or something. Not sure if it is healthy that bruises represent something like ‘going through pain’ and assuming that the person will ‘come out stronger’ some how. Bruises on bros make them seem ‘hardxcore’, but unsure/confused abt bruises on females. Not sure if it is a ‘branding tool’ or a sign of abuse.

Do yall have any good stories about girls with bruises, and how they got them?

R u a girl who has an explanation 4 all of ur bruises? Is a bruise just a sign of ‘trying 2 have a good time’?

As yall know, I am turning 18 soon, graduating from high school, and going away to design school in The City next Fall. For my gift/graduation gift, I get a big gift. I’m not sure what exactly to get. Please help me as I list all of my options, and perhaps yall can give insight.

SHOULD I GET A LAPPY OR A SCOOTER?

Should I get a Macbook Pro?

I am going to be in a rigorous design program, and this would be helpful so I don’t have to take my Dell Desktop, and I won’t have to use computers in the Mac lab all night. I could work in public spaces, and probably be more productive/creative. I am not sure if I will have enough money to afford all of the programs I need, though. I will need to check on student discounts. It would also be cool

Should I get a Vespa/scooter?

As yall know, scooters are 1 of the kewlest ways to get around town. I am not sure if public transportation has been safe since the London bombings, so my parents are very nervous and pushing for this, but made me promise to always wear a helmet. I am not sure what parts of town I will need 2 travel 2, but I think it might come in handy, especially if I get a boyfriend. I think it would be kewl to have a scooter, but I don’t want to seem arrogant. Riding the subway might make me seem ‘more humble’ and get more friends.

Yall. I can only get one. Unfortunately my parents are in massive amounts of debt, so I already feel bad enough that they are paying for my college. For the first time in my life, I have to make a good investment. I’m worried about buying something dumb that I won’t use. Help me yall. Worried.

Which 1 should I get for my BD+graduation gift?

Yall. Sometimes I don’t get 2 attend every alt event that I want 2 attend. Whether it is a local dance night, a meaningful indie concert, an international DJ icon spinning at a private party in Los Angeles, or even just a chilled out Coachella partie, I don’t always get to go. That’s why I look at party pix. To pretend that I am there. I want to feel like I am there, chilling.

Now I sort of wish party pix would die, and we could just have GIFs that are sort of an artistic representation of the night.

I feel closer 2 the partie happening in this GIF. I can feel the heat of the club. It makes me want to get up and dance. GIFs don’t just capture a solitary moment, they tell a story. I just want to be part of that story. One day I will be in these pictures, establishing myself as a regular on a high level PartyGif site.

I just want to be where something relevant is happening.
I want people 2 see me and want 2 be me.
I just need visual reinforcement
I just want to be part of a cultural movement

I just think the scene would be better if there were more GIFs. Imagine seeing a 10 frame gif of a crowd dancing at a Girl Talk concert. Or seeing bros chill at a festival. Or even seeing Dan Deacon ‘be krazie’ or something. Photographs sort of ‘leave me wanting more.’ Hope there are more GIFs in the future. Worried. Hope some1 is willing 2 innovate.

Sometimes, I wonder where the first bro who was a little bit alt came from. Not sure when bros were invented, and not sure when the modern definition of ‘alternative’ was invented. Feel like in the late 90s, there was a high demand for ‘cool men.’ This is sort of where the modern ‘bro’ evolved from.

In the post-GardenState era, the mainstream concept of ‘alternativedom’ was more accessible to every1. However, there were probably prehistorical altbros that sort of ’set the modern model’ for bros who are alternative.

Think it might have been the guy from the Sugar Rays. I think they mixed rock with rap to make some of the most innovative music that humans have ever heard. Feel like Sugar Ray might have been the band that set the mold for TV on the Radio.

‘I just wanna fly, yall’ – the Sugar Rays

Does n e 1 remember what music sounded like when VH1 was a ‘reasonable voice’ for ‘chill tunes’ that brought together tweens and trendy 38 year olds?

miss u

Does n e 1 know who the first alt/bro/altbro was? need yalls help .
