Jeopardy contestants are unable to identify Foster the People as a clue. Are they lamestream or alt?
</embed>

Foster the People is widely accepted as one of the biggest indie success stories of the year. They have taken one bubble gum indie song called "Pumped Up Kicks" and turned it into one of the most downloaded AND most-radio-played songs of 2k11. It seems like it is so culturally resonant that the song became a clue for their EXCLUSIVE TV DEBUT on the popular gameshow Jeopardy. I'm not even sure who watches Jeopardy any more. I think 'old lonely people', and weirdos with too much DVR space who still think that 'knowing trivia' makes them smart.

In this historic moment in indie, watch as these laggard ass lamestreamers are unable to identify the globally successful buzzband 'Foster the People.'

Alex, I'll take Bubble Gum Indie for $0.99.
Alex, I'll take mindie bands for $200.
Alex, I'll take lamestream radio for $500.
Alex, I'll take Mark Foster for $1000.
Alex, I'll take buzzhype for $1349.
Alex, I'm gonna go ahead and bet ONE DOLLAR [via Price is Right].

'Who the eff are they talking about? I thought I was totally in2 pop culture. I wish they asked me about a real band, like The Fray, Hot Chelle Rae, the Band Perry, Lady Antebellum or Don Henley.'

You really have to wonder if they are 'too alt' to know who a mainstream band like Foster the PPL is, or if they are 'so alt' that they are completely out of touch with the mainstream AND the mindie-stream.

Yall srsly have never heard the hit mindie buzz song 'Pumped Up Kicks'? I have multiple children aged 9 thru 43, and they all LOVE that song! They even gifted it 2 me [via iTunes]!

Would u have 'nailed' this question?
Do you think that the contestants are so alt that they were unable to identify such a mainstream song?
Is 'Pumped Up Kicks' the song of the Decade?
What kind of ppl still watch Jeopardy?
Is Foster the People the worst thing to happen to 'indie', even worse than Lana Del Rey?
Do u 'effing puke' everytime u hear 'Pumped Up Kicks', or do u dance around like a lamestreamer?
Did Mark Foster sell his soul to the devil in exchange for the creative vibes 2 write 'Pumped Up Kicks'?

God Bless,
Markus Fosterian

WES ANDERSON CHARACTER COSTUMES: THE DEAD END OF HALLOWEEN CIVILIZATION
Photos by Tenenbaumfail

Maybe it's time
to retire the Wes Anderson film character costumes
It's ovr.
When was the last time Wes Anderson made a movie that resonated with modern society?
Maybe we have evolved beyond the indie era
and u r compromising ur authentic personal brand
by dressing like a Tenenbaum
a Max Fisher
A #TeamZissou
A Darjeeleng

Don't care if u had to go 2 a couples costume partie

It's time 2 retire
the Wes Anderson film-based costumes
It's time to get serious abt life
stop pretending u r in an indie movie

Ur life is for real
ur never going to be a character in a film
Stop living in an effing dream world
ur never going 2 slit ur wrists [via suicide]

Ur a mexi
Ur not even white
Jesus Christ
Cmon bro

We get it
ur alt
and u watch indie films
but just that vibe really doesn't resonate ne more

Also, ur AZN

Ur not the white/Jewish Max Fisher
Ur not in HS
Ur not a tragic overachiever
ur an underachiever
Forgettable, lazy, mediocre
Ur not interested in anything
and ur not interesting

Ur not as pretty as Gwyneth Paltrow
or else u would be married to the coldplay bro
I don't think u r a talented, yet cunty woman
ur just an effing hollow broad with no feelings

But I do endorse the concept of the female costume that is
[ANYTHING] + [SLUTTY] + [TITTIES HANGING OUT] = great costume

R u addicted 2 drugs?
Do u want to be part of a brilliant family?
Escape from ur middle class past
ascend into 'tragic greatness'?

Did any1 even like the Darjy Limited
or was every1 'over it'

Not sure why any1 would want to go to India
Seems like there's a lot of ppl there
when there are so many ppl
it is hard 2 be an individual

Sorta just wish I had an azn sidekick
to integrate into my costume :-(

Would rather be Chill Murray [link]
than a second rate Bill Murray character

Never forget the time I saw 'Life Aquatic' in theatres
and was 'pissed' that it wasn't Rushmore/Tenenbaums set underwater

Kinda wish u'd just chop off ur finger
so u could feel 'real pain'
Instead of ur 'seasonal depression'
or whatever u r medicated 4

yall seem like real bros

Feel like u might as well 'vote 4 pedro'
instead of being a Tananbaum

So many Tenenbaums
So many Lamestreamers

Miss u myspace era

Really feel like when it's all said and done
and the world ends
we will be able 2 say
that Napoleon Dynamite had a bigger cultural impact than the combined effect of Wes Anderson films

I guess maybe we're all just lamestreamers
deep inside
and we're trying to brand ourselves
to be authentic

Maybe Wes Anderson relied 2 much on 'characters'
and gimmicky sets + costumes
and the human fabric of his films
have withered away

It's time
It's been time
I'm sorrie
Good bye Richie
Margot
Ari
Uzbro
Royal
Danny 'I'm too old 4 this shit' Glover
Jase Schwartz
Owen Wils
Luke Wils
Pagoda
Bill Murray
Adrien Broski
Wes Bronderson

I'm sorrie
dead end of halloween costumlization

Is the Wes Anderson film costume gimmick evr going 2 die?
Will people still dress like Wes Anderson characters in 2k10?
Are Wes Anderson films transcendent of time?
Were Wes Anderson films ever meaningful, or did u 'always see thru them'?
R u an entry-level or a lamestreamer?
Is there a 'huge backlash' against the meaningful indie film boom of the 2k0s?

Gnite bros
See yall in the suburbs
growing old
and handing out tricks and treats 2 spoiled kids

Fly Mordecai...

Fly....

Was the Super Bowl an authentic consumer alt experience?

Last nite, I watched the Super Bowl, because I am currently working in a mainstream office environment, and I secretly feel insecure when every1 else is talking abt a mainstream event, yet I don't have a progressive opinion to 'share' that goes over every1' heads. The Super Bowl seems like a more fulfilling viewing event than awards shows like the Oscars or Grammys or the BCS championship because you have 2 forces/teams 'battling' to be the champion, instead of just voter opinions and computer algorithms.

Did u have a 'Super Bowl party' with chips, dips, meats, brewskies, and 'bros'?

I feel like the Super Bowl is the 1 event all year that really unites the country. Thanksgiving + Christmas are so forced, but I feel like every1 really 'comes together for the Super Bowl. If the two teams are 'compelling', 'exciting' or just 'from a big market', the Super Bowl usually goes well. Every1 in America was 'some what aware' that a football game was occurring, because their lives' were made more meaningful/inconvenienced by it. Just want to be able to have 'meaningful discussions' about 'the big game', then feel a little bit disenfranchised with life because I don't 'care' about it the same way other ppl do.

Did alt stuff happen during the super bowl?

I feel 'most interested' in the alternative landmark events that happened during the Super Bowl. To most alts/ternatives, the 2k10 Super Bowl will be known as 'the year the Arcade Fire scored the soundtrack 2 the Super Bowl.' Every several minutes, the meaningful chorus of their hit song "Wake Up" played over and over again, as it was cobranded with the NFL.  I wonder if their song was better utilized in the marketing campaign of Where The Wild Things Are.

</embed>

In terms of 'selling out', this might be the biggest case of 'sell out' in the history of indie music.  Theoretically, there was no larger stage viewed by a wider audience than the Super Bowl.  I feel like the Super Bowl will begin to showcase former indie bands during half time in the second half of the decade.  For all we know, Arcade Fire negotiated a Super Bowl halftime 'guarantee' into their contract for this licensing.

To combat 'selling out', it was important for the Arcade Fire to send out an email blast to relevant sites+bloggers, letting consumers know that they were 'going to give the licensing money to Haiti.' It seems like this was a 'good gesture', but as the Arcade Fire transforms into a mindie (mainstream indie) band, you can't help but wonder if that was a 'calculated' move.

I feel like they did this both 'for a good cause', and to have another positive story/brand bit in their wikipedia entry.

Also saw the Grizzly Bear song "Two Weeks" in a Volkswagen commercial. It seems like that 'jingle' was created for mass markets, and it was only a matter of time before it was utilized in a commercial.  Volkswagen may or may not be an alt brand. Possibly is a B-rate 'trustafarian' brand. It makes me feel better knowing that Grizz Bear is being compensated instead of 'giving their money away to Haitians' after so many people texted 'HAITI' to 90999.  It seems like a lot of tweens probably already gave enough money 2 save Haiti, or am I 'being naive/Americentric'?

</embed>

'Just sort of relieved the New Orleans Saints won, reminding us that 'we had our own disaster' on American soil, and we need 2 fix what is wrong IN America before we invade Iraq/Iran + help with foreign crises. Fire Obama.'
-progressive conservative/liberal

Also saw some Google commercial. I guess they have to 'advertise because they are a lifestyle brand, and fear Bing + Yahoo searches. The concept of their commercial idealizes/romanticizes the idea of studying abroad in France, meeting a cute French Broad, then importing her to the states and putting an exotic blooded child in her.

</embed>

Is Google 'misleading' consumers by promising them happiness/success if they continue to solve their problems by googling them?
Does this commercial make u want 2 study abroad?

Was sorta surprised to see Alt Famous Photographer Noah Kalina in a Dodge Charger Super Bowl Commercial. Noah Kalina went 'mad viral' because he took a picture of himself every day for 6 years, then made a viral youtube video abt it.

The commercial seems to be an admission that 'life as a man sucks', but there are simple pleasures that you can enjoy during ur lifetime.  One of them is 'driving an awesome car.'  Another one might be 'cheating on your wife.'  Another one is probably 'eating 5000 calorie meals and dying from heart failure.'  Just want 2 make commercials that appeal the middle American Man.

</embed>

Not sure how much 'alt stuff' happened during the actual game. Think that the Super Bowl is just a 'consumer expo' sort of like some sort of global convention [via web conferencing].

Does n e 1 know if Hurricane Katrina is 'officially over' now that the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl?

Drew Brees' son also seemed pretty alt after his dad won the Super Bowl. He put on some 'huge headphones' and acted like he 'didn't give a damn' about the Super Bowl.

Do u think he was listening to Animal Collective in order to make the experience more meaningful?

Also, some 'cool grandpa' band called The Who played halftime. It seemed like they were some sort of parody of a classic rock band, but I am not really familiar with music from before the year 2000.

Peyton Manning was apparently going to be 'the Greatest Quarterback of All Time' if he won this game, but he 'choked bigtime.' It seems like this loss will cost him millions of dollars. He had a great opportunity to become 'the most marketable athlete to old white people' because of Tiger Woods' fall from grace, but he won't be able to command the millions of dollars that a true champion could have.

Worried about his body language. Like he is a 'sore loser'/not a 'genuine leader.'

Not sure how Americans would feel knowing that the UEFA Champions League Final gets more global viewers than the Super Bowl. As an American, I thought that the Modern 'National Past Time' (the NFL) had a global reach, but I think more global ppl are into soccer + NBA basketball [via Yao Ming China effect].

Can't believe soccer/real 'football' is still the global game. Worried that American Football might be as 'retarded' as the American Metric System.

Commercial Analysis

Here is some in-depth consumer analysis some of the most relevant commercials of the Super Bowl.

Saw this McDonalds commercial where two black athlete NBA players play a game of 'HORSE.' Dwight Howard and LeBron James are two of the most marketable NBA players because they are young, and don't have a bad reputation yet. They continue to attempt 'out of this world' dunks which are created with visual effects. This commercial seems like it is supposed to appeal to 'stupid people' who think dunks are 'effing sweet' and are not aware of the societal impact of the fast food industry. Professional athletes enjoy fast food because of their limited income upbringings and their rigorous practice schedule which enables them to burn 3,000-10,000 calories per day.

</embed>

(Please Note: McDonalds placed Larry Bird in this commercial so that the commercial wasn't 'too black', and didn't only appeal to new, young NBA fans.)

Another former African American basketball player, Charles Barkley starred in a Taco Bell commercial. He is known for being an 'outspoken black talking head who we have all learned to love.' Despite a gambling addiction and drunken sexual indiscretions, Taco Bell thought his silly brand would help them sell Taco Combo meals, served in a branded box.

</embed>

Do u want to buy a taco box from a 400 lb rhyming man in a huge suit?

Do u 'forgive him' for past alleged 'criminal' activities?

He seems to have evolved into a jolly, fat, radically opinionated man, as opposed to an 'angry black man.'

Also saw that Bud Light attempted to 'tap into' the mainstream infatuation with the autotune phenomenon from 2k9.

What were the best Television shows of 2k9? (Not qualified 2 write this post bc I don't have a TV).

I saw some alt with a mural of the cast of The Simpsons on his skin, in the art form of tattooification. It seemed like a bold statement, because your skin is an accessory that will be with you forever. The decision to let people know 'I chill in front of the TV' might not be a good one, since we don't know if 'the TV' will even be around in 5-10 years. Now that sites like youtube, hulu, funnieanddying.com, and collegehumorbrovideos.edu exist, many content creators exist on the internet, creating viral videos that no longer allow us to grow/live/love/learn with a cast of fictional characters.

I wonder what cast would be the altest skin mural to get. Maybe 'Family Guys', or perhaps 'The Office Staff (Ft Jim & Pam & the 40 Year old Virg).' Possibly a tattoo of Tim Allen from 'Home Improvement' or the Banks family from Fresh Prince of BelAir. Worried that too many 'dumb ppl pretending 2 be smart' are into SouthPark/the Daily Colbert Show franchise. Really need a skin mural so that I can finish my tat sleeve.

What was 'the best television show of 2k9'? Are there 'new shows', or are people just into glorifying old franchises? Wonder if tv shows have to 'get better' or if tv watching is such a loafcentric process that consumers don't really demand that much from TV. We sorta just need a 'cast of characters' that we can find identifiable for a 2 year gateway period, then we can sort of 'lean on them' to be there for us over time, even if the show just perpetuates existing gimmicks + 1dimensional characters. Wish we expected as much out of TV as we do out of bands.

What were the buzzworthy television shows in 2k9?

How about that Office spinoff show that 'failed/tanked'? Probs had to do with the fact that they selected a terrible female lead, born from the over-adoration of 80% of modern post-SaturdayNightLive personalities.

Wonder if 'SNL' is still relevant? Seems like a lot of ppl still watch it/talk about it on the internet. Not sure if that is directly related to a 'better product.'

Not sure if alternative demographics have a TV show to turn to. What is the deal with 'Gossip Girl'? I have heard it portrays alt kids/rich kids, and sometimes they use soft porn 2 get viewers.

Does n e 1 know what the deal with the show 'The Mad Men' is? From what I understand, it is some sort of reality show set in the 1960s, tying in real events with a quirky cast. Have heard that 'critics/bloggers' 'absolutely love' the show. Wonder if it is legitimately good, or just internet-hype 'good'/overrated.

'The Sun is Always Shining in Philadelphia' also seems to have a rabid fan base of ppl who buy complete seasons of DVDs. Not really into Danny DeVito as a comedic actor.

Miss being a kid/tween, back when there were shows that directly appealed to me.

Maybe I should focus on watching shows that are meant to showcase a fascinating/sad segment of humans. Wonder if MTV's 'Jersey Shore' is the future of television [via the National+Natural obsession with Guidos].

Need a cast of characters
That I can grow with
enjoying their lives'
until the show ends
and I feel dissatisfied with the conclusion of the show
(Will I feel just as dissatisfied with the conclusion of my own life

Ross & Rachel getting married/having a baby
Vincent Chase and his bros masturbating on Entourage
Bart Simpson/cartoon character 'getting in2 troub & learning abt life'
Will Smith fighting aliens in The Fresh Prince

TV seems fun & comfortable
learning abt life
while staring at the screen
instead of chilling on social networks
living life, interacting and chatting
while staring at the screen

Wonder if TV on the Radio
will rename their band
'Internet on the TV'

Not sure if 'Television' is a sustainable industry
Might just start a company that produces viral vids
and gets paid per millions of views

What is ur fave TV show?
Do u buy complete seasons of shows on DVD, or just stream them on ur compie?
Is the best TV Show better than the best movie?
Is the best blog better than the best TV show?
Do u wish the internet didn't exist?

“Shoplifting from American Apparel” by Tao Lin [EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT]

Hello, I'm Tao Lin.

You might know me as a frequent HIPSTER RUNOFF commenter when I am trying to promote my personal website heheheheheheheeheheheehehe.com or as a model from the IAMCARLES campaign.

I recently wrote a novel called 'Shoplifting from American Apparel.' Some websites have reviewed it, and some have even 'panned' it. This book is intended to break into alternative markets. The title is 'very marketable' which is why I selected HIPSTER RUNOFF as a place to run this 'exclusive' excerpt. I have been told that many musicians 'debut' mp3s on certain music blogs, so I wanted to 'do the same thing' except with a book. (Full Disclosure: Carles and I are childhood friends. We also recently recorded our band's debut EP.)

Please enjoy the excerpt. I hope it compels you to 'buy' my novel. I check my Amazon sales rank on an hourly basis.

Author of Shoplifting from American Apparel,

(Actually written by Carles.)

Please note: Carles does not endorse this product. Carles has not read this book. He only reads writings contained in web browsers. It is srsly the only way his brain can 'process' information.

AZN + Michael Cera = True Love?
</embed>

I saw this movie, PAPER HEART, and I think it is supposed to be a 'documentary' about an AZN who 'isn't very pretty, but has a good heart.' She doesn't believe in love, and she doesn't even believe in indie-love [via Garden State]. She travels around the USA, talking to 'smart people' and the new generation of 'actors who play themselves' in sillie comedies, and ask them things about love. Went to the 'official website' 2 see what it was all about, and it has a free spirited description

I think it is supposed to be some sort of 'concept movie' where the 'lines of reality are blurred' or something. Like it is supposed to look like a 'documentary' but then 'get all zany and meaningful.' The AZN eventually 'falls in love' with Michael Cera, who has become this generation's version of 'a bro who has fans who admire him for being the same bro in the movies that he might be in real life.' Seriously feel like Michael Cera 'actually was' in movies like Juno, Superbad, and that 1 movie about 2 indie kids falling in love in the city.

I think that Michael Cera is also in a movie with the 'ogre/twit' from the movie 'The School of Rock and Rolling'--a film where tweens come together to make a rocknroll band.

</embed>

Not even sure if he is 'a good fit' for that kind of movie. Should have probably had 'a black person' who was a comedian, or something like that.

Feel like Michael Cera represents a woman's desire to 'settle' for a guy who isn't handsome, but might be quirky, and allegedly 'funnie'. He will do things for you like 'make you a mix tape on an actual tape' even though you don't have a cassette player, and 'bring u shitty gifts' that u are able to consider 'meaningful.' Guess that might be why general bros h8 him--general bros are not willing to 'be comfortable with who they are' enough to find some sort of happiness with a girl who is clearly 'settling for u.' Both parties in the relationship share mutually resentful feelings towards one another because they both feel like they are 'settling.' Seems 'very hard' 2 be happie.

When girls 'defend' Michael Cera, what does it mean about their personal brands?
When bros 'attack' Michael Cera, what does it mean about their personal brands?
Is Michael Cera the next ______?
Do u really believe that Michael Cera would go out with that AZN, or would he go out with 1 of the 'hot ass' indie azns?
Do girls 'just wanna ride cock' on 'hot bros'?
Do bros 'just wanna stick it in wet, warm vaginas'?
Trying 2 figure out <3... might see 'paper heart.'

Some new film by Francis Ford Coppola
</embed>

Yall have probably heard of independent film director Sofia Coppola, who directed some of the best indie films of all time including Lost in Translation and the Virgin Suicides. What you don't know is that she has a father who is attempting to break into the movie industry. His name is Francis Ford Coppola. In his debut film Tetro, he casts authentic indie actor Vincent Gallo to play some bro who is just chillin out and being authentic. I think that the film is in black and white to try to win an Oscar, which is a tactic used by Stephan Spielbergher in the hit film Schindler's List of Bros Who Just Wanted to Live a Chill Life.

Not sure how films work since I am not a film student, but I think that this film uses old French techniques that were used to make things seem very authentic. Not sure what they are called.

does n e1 else think that Vinny Gallo is 'a genius'? Wonder what male I'd cast if I had to make a movie starring an authentic bro? Tom Hanks? Bob Downey Jr? Zach Braff? Mickey Rourke? Bruce Willis? Adrien Brody? John Heder? Mikey Cera?

Seems like he has an authentic jaw line.

Well yall... I hope that Francis Ford can live up to the high standards of his daughter Sofia. I am afraid that this is just another case of a parent riding his child's coat tails to fame, much like Lindsay Lohan's parents.

I condemn all parents who are trying to exploit the success and talents of their children. All I want is for every child to be given a fair shot at a normal life. This is a post about parenting

I feel confused about Woody Allen directing the Curb Your Enthusiasm movie.

Yall. I saw the preview for the new movie with the CurbYallsEnthusiasm guy, and I feel really confused. Why did they need to bring Woody Allen on board? I feel like the Larry David comedy formula was just fine as it is. Even though Woody Allen has branded himself as 'being authentic' and 'from New York', I just don't really relate to him. Maybe I'm not old enough. Does n e 1 know if his movies are good? I heard he has some movie called ANNIE HALL or something. Does n e 1 know why I should try 2 relate 2 Woody Allen?

Going to watch the trailer then 'react'

</embed>

Feel like it might be one of those films that is about old people 'searching for happiness' or something. Makes me scared to get old. Might need to make a 'Bucket List' or something of things I want 2 do before I 'kick the bucket.' Feel scared about getting old, but still having my 'zany, snarky' perspective on life. Hope I am a quirky old person, like the Larry David brand. Sort of wish Seinfeld was still on the air. Remember sitcoms back b4 people were into hour long dramas/crime scene bullshit / mystery shit like "Lost" / shittie comedies like THE OFFICE?

miss the past, yall.

But srsly yall... Just made this post 2 say that I h8 Woody Allen. I read on a blog that American Appy had 2 pay him $5 million dollars ($US) for using his image on one of their billboards. As a blogger who has been funded by Am Appy progressive advertisements, I feel like this is 'fucking bull shit.'

I have done more for the Am Appy brand than Woody Allen did for having his image used on 1 of their billboards. Sort of wish Am Appy gave me $5 million in banner ads or something. Feel like Woody Allen is spoiled for not know what it means 2 have Am Appy select you as a 'cobranding partner.' Having Am Appy banners on ur webspace is a privilege, not a right.

But then again Woody Allen was 1 of the first ppl to 'buy an AZN.'

Excited abt the new Wes Anderson movie about the NBA

I feel excited, because 2 of my favourite things are joining forces to make the best movie of all time: Wes Anderson and NBA basketball. This is a picture from the set in a scene where he is feeling aloof, and goes to an NBA game and 'feels nothing.' Apparently, Bill Murray stars as a down-on-his-luck bro who just got divorced from Margot Tenenbaum, and gets back from sea. He wants to rebuild his life, and get a decent paycheck playing in the NBA.

Eventually, Bill Murray must go through a series of whimsical conversations to get himself a tryout. He eventually makes the team, but then finds out that black men h8 old white men. He goes through adversity, gets dunked on by LeBron James, and eventually becomes a contributor and vocal team leader from the bench on a championship team. He also reunites with his estranged son.

I feel excited about this movie. I think it will help to 'humanize' our perception of professional athletes, instead of thinking of them as lucky/blessed / relevant / important 2 society / ass holes / spoiled / new money bros who buy tyte cars / etc.

Think that the tentative title of the film is HE GOT BBALL DIARIES.

Is n e 1 else pumped abt this movie?
Looove Bill Murray. Sometimes I feel like he plays the same 'disconnected' character in every movie...but maybe that's a good thing. I have only seen his post-Rushmore stuff, so I don't even know if he is like a 'comedian.' I can't believe he was on SNL once... do yall think he made 'digital shorts' like that Jewish guy on SNL now?

Think I wanna see this 'indie' love story

Yall. I really want 2 fall in love. Looking for an authentic interpretation of 'love.' Feel like most movies about relationships are 'just bull shit romanticized crap' but not this 1. I am pretty sure I identify with it.

</embed>

Do yall think it looks good? The intro scene where he is all like 'damn. she likes the Smith's. Think I'm in <3 with her' is kind what made me know I was gonna like this movie. Need more movies with scenes where some1 is listening 2 headphones, kinda like that movie Garden State where NatPortty tells ZachBraffbro about the buzzband THE SHINS.

I'm just a bro who wants to be in love, living in a world full of 'crazy cunts' and 'krazie slutz' who 'don't know what they want' and 'don't realize that they have a good bf.' Wonder if Summer dies at day 500. Wonder if there is some 'realistic ending' that I am supposed to respect since it's 'not just a happy ending.' Probably gonna have a 'bad ass soundtrack.' Is there any way I can invest in this film on the Alternative Stock Market?

"I believe in a thing called <3." -The Darknesses

Jealous that Ben Gibbard married Zooey Deschanel. Want to marry some1 who plays a character in an alternative movie and then pretend that I am married to a character from a movie. Thinking about marrying Bill Murray and pretending he is Steve Zissou/a Ghostbuster/CaddyshackBro.

I think I like the REMIX of this trailer that is meant to just make the movie seem 'meaningful' by not saying much/but just having a meaningful background song, deep voice-over bro, and demonstrating the 'lovely cinematography' in the movie.

</embed>

Just want 2 find meaningful love in a city. Want a girl who is alternative, but also 'seems like a slut who is down 2 fuck.' Want life to seem like an indie movie that is a mix of realism, quirky convo, and surreal events like 'dance sequences' and 'moments that seem larger than life.'

Never knew the 3rd Rock from the Sun bro would grow up 2 be a leading man in an alternative love story.

Not sure what movie I want 2 see. Kinda pumped about Gigantic / Where the Wild Things Are / JUNO.

Might buy candy and popcorn at the movies. Then will 'complain about how much it costs.'

sad that tweens can't go to the movies any more and fngrbang eachother without 'a lil bit of popcorn butter on their fingers.' just s00 expensive.

I love music videos that are supposed 2 look indie for MTV/VH1 audiences

[video may not be viewable in your RSS reader]

How many 'indie music video' gimmicks can u count in this music video?

</embed>

I was watching this video by the Matt and Kims for the song "Daylight." I feel like this video is the perfect execution of the 'indie aesthetic for people who like things that look earnestly quirky are meaningful.' (These people were created after NappyDynamite Fever.) The song structure is baffling enough for people to not know if it is good or bad, enabling them to decide on the quality of product based on 'how it looks' in relation to 'stuff they've seen in the past.'

Since it is a mashup of indie/meaningfulcore aesthetics, the product is approachable, and most entry level alts are able to assign meaning to it in a deliberately arbitrary way.

BUT SRSLY...if I lived my life in stop-motion, would it be more meaningful?

Is Daft Punk's ELECTROMA a big pile of p00p?

Electroma is a meaningful story about 2 robots who want 2 be human. As you can see from the 10 minute highlight reel below, the robots drive in cars, put on plastic human skin, and then burn themselves' alive.

</embed>

I can't even remember when Daft Punk's film ELECTROMA came out (in 10 total theatres). Is it still in post-production? Is it coming out soon? I know that as an electroDescendant, I must find Daft Punk to be 'authentic'/'a respected elder', but just unsure about this lil robot film thingy.

Maybe because of the Masked DJ era, it's more difficult to take a film about masked DJs who put on human masks seriously. I'm sure it provides relevant commentary on technology, humanity, and other important teen issues, but I don't know if I will ever 'get' it. Maybe it's a concept film like that one Wall-E.

Maybe I can identify with scenes like this where you feel like an alt in a mainstream world. :-(

</embed>

h8 it when I go out in the sun & my face starts to melt.

SRSLY THO... who has actually SEEN all of ELECTROMA?

Do u know n e 1 who has actually sat through Electroma?
Do u know n e 1 who owns Electroma?
Do u know n e 1 who went to a [RARE] screening at an authentic movie theatre in a major metropolitan area in order to see it? Do u think they wasted ___ minutes of their lives' watching a sillie robot film?
If this film was made in the 1960s, would we have seen it on Mystery Science Theatre 3000?

When a movie has a 4 minute long face-melting suicide scene, should we take it seriously?

</embed>

(do scenes like this make ELECTROMA the greatest film ever made?)

I'm in crisis, yall. Don't know how to feel about Electroma. Was it a landmark in filmmaking? Just wanna know if people have actually seen it. Have yall?
Why do all of the modern electroActs just make documentaries? Why can't they make fictional stories about themselves and their quest 2 b __________.

MTV is discovering stuff that’s alt. Does that mean it’s not ‘alt’ n e more? [BEWARE OF THE MAINSTREAMERS]

Lately, MTV has been doing these in-depth investigative journalism pieces about parts of the world no1 has ever heard about. I wanted to share these rlly informative pieces with yall, because I assume that if you read this blog, you are one of the most culturally-connected persons within your local community. You are a first-line tastemaker, and you deserve to know about [EXCLUSIVE] stuff like this.

Please note that these videos are [HIGHLY RECCD], not only because you get to see John Norris' never-ending-quest to be a lil alt, but because you want to understand what it's like to participate in the revolution that is a geographically-contained creative renaissance.

Un-Earthed Location #1: A small American city called "Portland, Oregon."
</embed>

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - MTV Shows

Did this video almost make your head explode, too? SRSLY. I rlllly hate Portland and any other 'second tier' cities that claim to be culturally relevant by playing up the whole 'alternative gimmick.' There is an excess of shitty musicians who are Starbucks/Chili's employees in every city, so I hate when a city's personal brand revolves around 'sounding like they really mean it when they make their shitty music/attend their shitty, awkward concerts.'

I'd say Austin, TX is pretty good example of 'shitty city who is gimmickifying it's underwhelmingly-alternative brand', too. Most of the music in Austin, TX is more approachable indie fodder than the Portland concept crap, so I'll give the edge to Portland when it comes to 'moderately alt cities that major-city-alts-want-to-move-to-bc-they-think-their-life-will-be-simple, yet-authentic,yet-still-as-alt as they feel comfortable with.' No matter what, we all need an alt-city full of alts to feel comfortable around without the high-cost-of-living that major metropolitan areas have. Don't you feel like you have met a lot of people who have idealized Portland and Austin as 'heaven on alt-earth'? Like they imagine settling down with a humble-&-emotionally-connected trophy alt who is done with his/her 'partying phase' and ready to start buying well-designed carriages for their newborn babies (lil alts).

Common traits of overhyped 2nd rate alternative cities:

  • Perception of being 'green'
  • Perception of a bustling 'local economy'
  • A high 'basically unemployment' rate (this figure represents people who are over 30, but still have the jobs a 16 year old would have)
  • An excess of corporate and independent coffee shops
  • An excess of people with too many tattoos working in independent coffee shops
  • An excess of coffee shop employees playing RLLY gimmicky 'interesting' music in coffee shops during their shifts/playing the albums of their friend's band who sound exactly like _______
  • Overhearing the 'future plans' of people who work in these coffee shops to start their own business in design/food/recordstore/boutique/other alternative biz idea.
  • An excess of people in bands that have shows in an excess of venues
  • An otherwise stable maintream economy which allows the alternative population to work in the service industry. While this usually happens in all cities, the minorities in the service industry are replaced by these aging alts.
  • Overhearing all of these people talking about stuff that was cool between 2 to 40 years ago. They basically have a 2 year delay on 'what is currently cool' and usually just rely on 'liking aesthetics/bands that are from before 1985.'
  • A handful of decent bands, a few imitators, and a bunch of krappie bands that have tied their identity to their home city and guilt their friends into attending their show/post a lot of myspace bulletins to impressionable local-17-year olds.
  • They attempt to assert their city-wide inferiority complexes by having excessive representation when it comes to liberal activities, particularly 'marches.' Examples include Gay Pride Marches, Anti-Racism Marches, Marches Against 'The War', and general Marches Against Stuff That Exists Because of Conservative People.
  • These cities have significant populations of 'cool dads' and 'free spirited moms' by choice/believe in their personal images, as opposed to the real-city versions of these parents who are simply 'participating in a gimmick which they have no control over.'
  • A lot of these cities have a major university or a well-branded liberal arts school with a progressive identity which the 'hip side of town' feels like they need to cater to in order to keep up sales of vegan wraps, pizza-made-from-only-organic-ingredients, and interesting t-shirts.

N e ways. Do yall like these types of cities or what? Am I wrong? Should the Mayor of Portland 'show me around the alt side of town' and then 'take me on a tour of their business district'?

I think a lot of cities/hip communities within a city all have some of these traits. Did I miss n e traits?

[PLEASE NOTE: I DO LIKE STARFUCKER FROM PORTLAND, BUT I WILL STOP LIKING THEM WHEN PEOPLE START CALLING THEM 'THE NEXT MGMT' AND THEIR RCRD LABEL FORCES THEM TO CHANGE THEIR NAME. ]

Unearthed Location #2: A country called France

Can some one please explain the differences between the bands JUS-TICE and JEW-STEESE? If they are going to use an American world, I think they should say it like a proud American. "Justice" was a concept invented in America, so it doesn't matter how.

N e ways, this video is s00 true. Those Frenchies are stealing our culture and selling it back 2 us. SOME1 NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. Our American alternative celebrities are letting us down. Also, the American government should ban foreign artists from utilizing our memes and media from the past in order to make money off their art. America should probably ally with Australia in the ElectroWar.

Journalists need to stop focusing on geographic locations, and start realizing that
we all live on the Internet. There's no such thing as a 'city' n e m0re, yall. We're all citizens of Blogville/the blogosphere/the memesphere/the information super fagway.

In conclusion, we need America to unite as a nation to create popular alternative music. Carles is doing his best to help the United States by working hard on the HIPSTER RUNOFF debut EP.

HRO is sooo mainstream. I can't believe I still blg abt all of these mainstream bands that are alllll over MTV.

I'm just searching for authentic authenticity. :-(

HRO in some cartoon about Hipsters on Al Gore’s internet TV station thingy

How do u feel about online media that 'makes fun of hipsters'? I feel like it usually appeals to people who are on the sidelines of hipsterdom, and have an unhealthy obsession with 'what is means to be alt.' Kind of like the people who bought $100 worth of American Appy, a pair of shutter shades, and other miscellaneous 'look@me' accessories, but only wear it once to an 80s themed party and spend the whole night saying, "OMG i look like such a hipster. hehe."

Here are two screen shots from the cartoon

I hope 50% of my readership has purple hair. Should I change the HRO layout/blog title? Did u connect with it on a meta-post-meta-alt-physical level?

Most mainstream-ish [HIGHLY PORTRAYABLE] alts who are REALLY alt aren't even smart enough to use the internet to do more than social network/upload photos/change user pics/write on walls.

Remember the Hipster Olympics? That went s00 alt-viral.

Donald Glover's crappy TV show 'Community' sacked. Was it bc he is a bad rapper?

Donald Glover has been on a recent press tour to promote his new rap album. It's not going very well because he is just getting 'lamestream' coverage and most authentic outlets have decided to bypass his product because it is just 'too soft'/trying 2 hard. I Anyways, some more terrible news just came out for Donald Glover. His TV show 'Community' was cancelled. This shouldn't really come as a surprise. Most NBC shows aren't really successful, they just appeal to losers who stay at home, streaming entire seasons of TV shows out of boredom and loneliness, then they tweet about how 'great they are' because they want to appear to be culturally relevant even though they are just sitting at home wearing pants with elastic bands like any other sad Middle American.

What do u expect when you have 'the dude from The Soup' trying 2 act, and Chevy Chase, who in my book, has NOT been funny since National Lampoon's Vegas Vacay.

via WaPo:

“Community” fans were met Monday with the cold news that the show was not on NBC’s midseason lineup.

The Post’s Lisa de Moraes wrote that this was not a surprise to most, considering its low ratings and the return of “30 Rock.”

The show hasn’t been canceled. Network sources told the Hollywood Reporter that “Community” will return at an undetermined date in the future. But the New York Times’ Brian Stelter is not optimistic about its future: “Its chances of being renewed next year are painfully low.”

Pain seems to be what “Community” crew and fans are in. But they’re using this opportunity to redirect non-watchers’ attention to the show and its very quotable lines.

You sort of have to wonder if Donald Glover 'saw this coming', and his rap career is an attempt to 'pick up some cash' because he won't be 'rolling in green' from syndication money. I feel like NBC should 'just lend them some video tape recording equipment' and allow them to make a series of crappy youtube videos that would probably be 'as funny' as their show.

Perhaps they are canceling the series because they heard Daniel Glover's music.

U gotta feel bad for any sitcom that wasn't able to achieve what 'The Office' achieved, since that was a huge pile of poo, but every1 was all like 'aww how funny. Jim and Pam.'

Did Daniel Glover's rap career ruin 'Community'?
Has he become 'too hard of a nigga' for network tv?
Did he only become a rapper because of the death of his show?
Are NBC comedies 'funny' or just 4 progressive lamestreamers?
Do u prefer Donald Glover or Danny Glover?

Bam Margera has meltdown on local news abt Ryan Dunn's death.

Bam Margera was a member of the Jackass crew who got his own spinoff show, similar to Dr. Frasier Crane after Cheers. Anyways, one Jackass bro named Ryan Dunn died in a car crash, and every1 is really milking the meme bc those bros didn't really care abt preserving their own lives' and now 1 of them finally died, so every1 wants 2 see how they handle it. Bam Margera seems 2 have had a breakdown on a local news channel.

The emotional response seems reasonable, but u always feel bad for anything 'real' that is presented in the context of 'local news.'

Sorta feel bad 4 Ryan Dunn bro 2 go out like that... Seems like his vibes were hella harshed...

At least the local news bros talked abt the incident with serious faces.

I wonder if this is the 'breaking point' of the Jackass franchise. All of those bros seem like they might be on 'the wrong side of Gen X', so maybe they just did 'the ultimate Jackass clip that no1 was filming.'

Do u wish u were famous 4 sticking a toy car up ur anus?

What kind of ppl watch Viva La Bam?
Is Jackass 4 Middle Americans who can only consume 'sensationally lame' content?
What is ur 'opinion' on The Death of Ryan Dunn?

Is Jackass 'alt'?
Can Johnny Knoxville launch a serious acting career?

Jonah Hill will star in "Pitchfork: The Movie". Will it be the next Social Network?

pitchfork movie
Apparently, some trendy writers penned some script called "Pitchfork." The type of writer bros who write meaningful bro comedies about bros 'coming of age' after a series of quirky events that lead you to question the spirit of bro, and make the brotagonist wonder if he will ever grow 'beyond a bro' to 'become a man.' Anyways, this headline seems trendy because the name of the movie is "Pitchfork." I don't know if mainstreamers know about that indie music site.

Titled "Pitchfork," it's a dramatic thriller about the middle-aged mother of an indie rocker who, after her son is killed in a car accident, seeks vengeance on an online blogger who had peddled snark about her son (on the music site Pitchfork, hence one of the title's entendres). Things take a turn, though, when she finds out the snarker is just a teenager.

Is Pitchfork even 'snarky'? It seems like they 'respect artists' and never really question them as human beings or memes. I wonder what the indie rocker's personal brand will be all about. I wonder what the blogger will look like? Probably some MASSIVE, disgusting blob who hasn't seen the sun in days.

I wonder if this is based on a specific Pitchfork 'writer.' I think they all call themselves 'writers' even though it is just an HTML file on the internet.

Apparently Jonah Hill 'is rumored to have read the script' so we can basically go ahead and say he is 'starring in it' [via blog industry standards].

The film contains a juicy role for the mother (Susan Sarandon is one of the actresses who's being sought for the part) as well as the teen blogger, with Hill having discussed it with the filmmakers, said a person familiar with the pitch.

Was really hoping that this was going to be a biopic about Ryan Schreiber, and the bro he betrayed to start Pitchfork Media. Kinda let down.

This seems like it is the kind of movie that will just 'get a lot of blog buzz' and then no1 really goes 2 see it [via Scott Pilgrim]/the majority of movies involving Jonah Hill or Michael Cera.

R u going to see this movie?
Will this movie 'get greenlit'?
Do u think Pitchfork should let this movie 'use' it, or will it be a 'jump the shark' moment when the movie tanks and becomes 'dated' in _ days?
Will it be as meaningful as 'Almost Famous' [via Rolling Stone]?
Who is the #1 indie snark blogger?
Is this movie 'based on Carles'?
Will the mother of a deceased indie rocker hunt down Carles 1 day?

Zooey Deschanel strips nude in the trailer for her new FOX sitcom
</embed>

Zooey Deschanel's new show "NEW GIRL" got 'greenlighted' by FOX, so we get to see her 'attempt comedy acting.' I don't know if she really has any value, except for staring into the camera with blue eyes and 'looking indie' and having a froggy voice, so unless she strips nude and 'gets her fuck on' [via HBO/Showtime], I don't think this comedy is going to last. Seems to be trying to be a 'bro comedy.' It's always sunny in the office parks and rec Bronteourage.

Anyways, she 'kinda gets naked' in this trailer, offering her body to her ex-mate. Really wish she would get NUDE on camera. Really want to know 'what kind of nips' that she has.

Does this show look 'funnie' or is it destined 2 fail?

Does "Napoleon Dynamite: The Animated Series" look funnie/authentic?
</embed>

Napoleon Dynamite is a quirkwave indie comedy from between 2-10 years ago. I can't tell how old stuff from the indie era is any more. Anyways, I guess the creators and castmembers finally 'hit rock bottom' and they are ready to make some cash by creating Napoleon Dynamite: The Animated Series. I guess if shows like The Simpsons can be on the air for 20 years, why couldn't Nappy D be on the air for 50. I feel like animated shows are easy to produce/poop out, and even easier to cancel, so seems like this is a chill experiment.

It seems like Nappy D, Pedro the Mexican, and all of the other white trash ppl are 'up to the same old tricks.' Llamas. Quirkiness. Zaniness. Surreality. White ppl. I really hope there is a weird sex scene between [Character A] and [Character B]. I hope they [do something quirky]. I hope that Americans learn that we are a lot like Nappy and his gang of misfits.

Does this animated series 'look funnie'?
Was Nappy D authentically funnie + progressive?
Will this show be good for its historical brand?
Did John Heder's career 'tank'?
Will this be the #1 show on TV?
Do u prefer King of the Hill/Fam Guy/Adult Swim shit?
Do u only watch cartoons if they are Pixar-wave?

Zooey Deschanel writes new song for the Winnie the Pooh soundtrack
</embed>

Zooey Deschanel was hired by the Winnie the Pooh movie 2 write some songs about how Winnie is a chill bro and Christopher Robin just wants to stay in a permanent chill zone [via nostalgic images of youth]. I wonder if they picked Zooey Deschanel because her rate was significantly lower than hiring some random top tier pop star. Anyways, this video features Zooey Deschanel talking abt how she loves Winnie the Pooh, and how she wants to hug him, which might explain her initial attraction 2 Benjamin Gibbard b4 she made him lose tons of weight.

"Hi I'm a musician.' -some actress

Feel bad for M. Ward because these songs are 'by Zooey Deschanel' but they don't want his creepy old man brand associate with the movie [via scaring the children]. He is just in the background playing the guitar.

Zooey Deschanel is also wearing her 'rowdy' wedding ring, proving she is property of Ben so that no1 gets 'any ideas.'

Feel bad for Winnie the Pooh. He seems chill, and I think he woulda rather gone for 'authentic lo-fi vibes' as a soundtrack choice.

Does this song 'seem amazing'?
R u sad 4 Winnie, or do u think he likes Zooey Deschanel?
Is M. Ward being 'phased out' by Zooey Deschanel?
Is Zooey Deschanel an 'indie musician' or just a KIDZ BOP musician now?
Do u think they should turn Winnie the Pooh into an indie movie where Winnie wants to find true love [via a relationship with Zooey Deschanel]?

The Alt Tween from MTV's "My Life As Liz" makes HIPSTER RUNOFF tribute

"My Life As Liz" is a popular MTV show that I think is a spinoff from '16 and Pregnant', sort of like how 'Frasier' spun off from 'Cheers' and 'Joey' spun off from 'Friends.' The show is about this alt tween girl who is 'trapped with a bunch of mainstreamers in suburbia' but knows that there is a more meaningful life out there than just lamestream proms & giving ur Abercrombie_wave boyfriend a tugjob underneath the bleachers during 7th period... Anyways, many ppl call her 'the Alt Lauren Conrad/Heidi Montag' because she is on a post-reality show on MTV.

She made a 'custom photograph' and 'sign' and 'font' for HIPSTER RUNOFF, declaring her love for the site. It seems like the site must have resonated with her when she was 'trapped in suburbia', and inspired her to pursue meaningful-wave experiences in a major urban metropolitan area. Unfortunately, I don't think there is as much 'teen sex' as there is in SKINS, and not meth addictions being battled in Middle America [via 16 and pregnant].

Do yall watch 'My Life as Liz'? I think she moved 2 New York City for season 2, and she has 2 decide whether or not she wants to stay loyal to her entry-level meaningful core alt friends from the past, or decide to 'mingle' with NYC alt dudes. Not sure if she is alt enough 2 live in Brooklyn or if she is riding Times Square waves and living in an office in the MTV Studios.

Arcade Fire releases trailer for short film abt teen life in the Suburbs (directed by Spike Jonze)
</embed>

I just watched this trailer for a short film inspired by the Arcade Fire album 'The Suburbs' called Scenes From The Suburbs. It is basically just going to be the long form video for the hit music video "The Suburbs" which was directed by Spike Jonze. Not really that interesting to me. If I wanted to watch 'Scenes from the Suburbs', I'd just go outside and walk around my neighborhood (since I had to move back in with my parents after a rough stretch where I quit my office job).

The story seems to be about the military taking over the_suburbs, and teens trying to make sure that they had meaningful existences. Just the usual high school stuff. Riding BMX bikes, fingerbanging the same girl as your bros did, and wishing ur parents understood u.

Do yall think tons of entry levelers are gonna buy this 'dvd' and be all like 'I am a true Arcade Fire fan because I care abt the story behind the music and bc Spike used 'Wake Up' for Where the Wild Things Are book movie'?

Here is the original music video for 'The Suburbs.' U can basically watch this video and know what happened in 'The Suburbs'. Just pretend you are all of the tweens in this short film [via acting in a 1 man play].

</embed>

Is Spike Jonze 'overrated'?
Did he ruin 'Where the Wild Things Are' or was it a brilliant, emotional film?
Are yall tired of 'The Suburbs'?
Does the Arcade Fire need 2 find a new gimmick that doesn't involve Sprawl (IV) Subways Beyond Panera Breads?

Natalie Portman and Dwight Schrute from The Office star in a new lame indie film 2gether
</embed>

I just saw this new movie trailer for a film called "Hesher." It seems to star indie actress Natalie Portman, the guy who plays Dwight Schrute in The Office (named Rainn Wilson in real life), and Jason Gordon Levitt, the lamestreamer from the hit indie film "500 Days of Summer."

Overall, the movie seems horrible. I thought Natalie Portman had moved on beyond these types of roles in identity-less indie films. Oh well, at least she wore some really sweet child predator glasses 2 'really get in2' her character.

Can't believe Rainn Wilson was allowed 2 be in another film. I think he has over 1 million twitter followers, but not really sure if any1 cares abt him as an artist/actor.

He tries 2 act all serious [via growing a beard and acting despondent], but of course, it looks like a big joke, and u just wait for Steve Carrell 2 tell him 2 'get back 2 work.'

I remember his last film was one of the biggest flops in the history of movies.

Here is a picture of Jason Gordon Levitt, who played Zooey Deschanel's indie lil bitch in 500 Days of Summer. He plays trailer trash in this movie, and probably thinks he will get nominated 4 an Academy Award.

I feel rlly bad 4 every1 involved in creating 'Hesher.' Maybe it would have 'worked' 10-20 years ago if it had an indie soundtrack filled with tons of indie artists, but now just looks like a big pile of indie cheese.

Does this movie 'look horrible'?
Do u h8 indie quirky dramedies 'abt lower middle class life'?
Will Jason Gordon Levitt ever 'make it' as an indie actor, or will he always just be a teen actor?
Do u think Natalie Portman's career has 'regressed' by taking this role?

MTV's "Skins" is considered child pornography, loses advertisers

SKINS is an MTV show about alternative teens who live a party hard lifestyle, with tons of sex, drugs, drinking, STDs, and other adult issues. In order to be 'provocative', show producers must walk the line between 'teen show' and 'kiddie porn.' However, it seems like the MTV show SKINS is [OFFICIALLY] considered 2 be child pornography.

In recent days, executives at the cable channel became concerned that some scenes from the provocative new show “Skins” may violate federal child pornography statutes.

Why do yall think it is child porn? It's just teens having fun. All of u old grey hairs need 2 realize that teens are living in a new teen-society, where every1 does drugs & fucks 1 another.

They are particularly concerned about the third episode of the series, which is to be broadcast Jan. 31. In an early version, a naked 17-year-old actor is shown from behind as he runs down a street. The actor, Jesse Carere, plays Chris, a high school student whose erection — assisted by erectile dysfunction pills — is a punch line throughout the episode.

I'm sure tons of teens see erections in their locker rooms every day. What's the big deal? Is it really kiddie porn? Why is every1 freaking out? Is our society 2 conservative, or are we just worried abt 'dumb ass tweens' who will have sex bc they see it on TV?

It seems like advertisers are starting 2 'pull their ads' from SKINS because there aren't enough family values.

L'Oréal SA and sandwich-chain Subway on Monday brought to seven the number of marketers publicly pulling their advertisements from the program, which has prompted a barrage of criticism because of its depictions of minors engaging in sexual activity as well as drug and alcohol abuse.

Several other high-profile companies—from Taco Bell to General Motors Co.—have distanced themselves from the series on the Viacom Inc.-owned network, which the Parents Television Council dubbed "the most dangerous television show for children that we have ever seen."

R u going to stop watching SKINS, or will u stop shopping at Subway + Taco Bell?
Would u expect more out of an alt brand like Taco Bell?
Should more companies do 'whatever it takes' 2 appeal to alternative teens?

r u 'totally turned on' by the cast of SKINS?

It seems like the show has been 'wildly successful.' I'm sure tons of teens are 'tweeting & FB status updating about it.' Gathering around their high school water coolers just 2 talk abt last night's episode of SKINS.

The show is off to a running start. It attracted 3.3 million to its premiere on Monday night and set a new first-episode record for the channel among viewers ages 12 to 34.

Episodes of “Skins” are rated TV-MA, indicating that the content may be unsuitable for viewers younger than 17. MTV states in news releases that it is “specifically designed to be viewed by adults.” However, many of MTV’s viewers are in middle and high school. According to the Nielsen Company, the first episode drew 1.2 million people younger than 18.

Is there such a thing as 'twink child pornography', or are legal aged men into 'twinks' because they inspire nostalgic images of gay tweendom/youth?

Natalie Portman stars in an indie comedy with Ashton Kutcher

Natalie Portman is an indie female star who is pregnant and is trying 2 get indie cred by starring in tons of indie films. For some reason, she tried 2 get even more indie by starring in an indie romantic comedy with indie star Ashton Kutcher. It seems like they have a series of indie diy friends and just do indie stuff, act like 20somethings in coffee shops, and try 2 find meaning in their lives'. They just hang out with friends, and try to find love in all of the wrong places, trying 2 grow as humans, and grow 2gether with another human, but there are tons of comical follies along the way.

Do u think Natalie Portman might get a 'best actress nomination' 4 this hit indie film?
Do u think this will be more successful than he portrayal of 'A Black Swan'?
Do u think that Ashton Kutcher will gain more indie cred in this indie film?

Will 'the ethnic girl' from the Office ever get to 'carry her own film' or is the ceiling of her career being a 'wing woman' in a mainstream romantic comedy?

Can 2 ppl ever just have sex with 'no strings attached'?
Do u have a group of 'girl friendz' / 'boy friendz' who totally remind u of the innercircle of a romantic comedy 'group of friends'?
Did Natalie Portman only make this movie 2 fund her upcoming baby?
Do u think this mainstream romcom will hurt Nat Portman's indie cred?
Will Natalie Portman ever 'top' her performance in 'Garden State II: The Braffy Strikes Back'?
Do u think Ashton Kutcher had more fun banging Natie Portie than he does banging his own 'old ass' wife? [via Demi Moore]

Do u think Ashton Kutcher's 'twitter follower count' can help a movie be successful, or will every movie he is in 'totally suck'?
Are rom coms 'art', or just a 'disgrace' 2 filmmaking?

New alt tween MTV show Skins uses AnCo's "My Girls" in opening scene

Skins - MTV Shows

A bunch of ppl emailed the ALT REPORT TIP LINE, saying "Hey, check out the totally alt tween MTV show called Skins. It is a reinterpretation of a similar show from the United Kingdom, sorta like how America 'stole' The Office. U should really watch it, Carles. At least the intro. It features the hit song "My Girls" by Animal Collective."

From what I understand, SKINS is supposed 2 be some sort of show abt alternative teenagers who live a tragic life where they just get effed up, do drugs, and 'fuck 1 another.' From what I understand, that is what usually happens to most teenagers, except it isn't branded as 'tragically beautiful', unless u are progressive enough 2 find "16 and Pregnant" 2 be 'beautiful/tragic.'

I watched the intro of this show. I can confirm that Animal Collective's "My Girls" was playing.

Here is the opening of the show. There is some alt girl wandering the streets of suburbia after a hard nite of partying.

Then there is some other bro in bed. It seems like they just used the pseudo-meaningful Garden State era technique 2 have him look 'emotionally void' straight in2/past the camera.

Then some naked milf lady appears in a window.

I wonder if Animal Collective is 'pissed' that Skins 'misused' their song.
Or do u think they 'beautifully integrated it' with the show?

Should AnCo 'sue' Skins?
Is Skins a 'pile of shit' show?
Is 'the British version' of anything 'way better than the American version'?
"OMG why doesnt MTV actually play music any more??!?" -some1 in the 1990s trying to have a progressive opinion
What is ur favourite MTV show? 16 and Preggers? Jersey Shore? The Real Housewives of Suburbia?
Should Animal Collective change their 'official video' 2 this Skins intro segment?
Is Skins an authentic portrayal of alt teens, or just the obvious 'trying 2 hard 2 be controversial' show?
Will Skins be on the air longer than MASH/Law & Order?

Francis Ford Coppola hires Dan Deacon 2 score his next film. Will it flop?

I never really thought that Dan Deacon was a 'real musician.' From what I understand, he is just a 'performance artist', and his music seems pretty simple and random, so I am confused as to why he was selected to score the next Francis Ford Coppola film. I feel like maybe Coppola was like "my daughter is bros with Phoenix, and Spike Jonez is bros with the Arcade Fire, so maybe I have to start a working relationship with an indie band." Feel like Deacon isn't really aligned with his brand.

Dan Deacon has been tapped by Francis Ford Coppola to score his next film, Twixt Now and Sunrise, due later this year. The gothic romance stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin & Elle Fanning. In addition to scoring the film, Mr. Coppola and Mr. Deacon are collaborating on a larger level, details of which will be announced soon.

Do yall wish some1 could build a time machine so that Dan Deacon could go back in time 2 score the Godfather/Apocalypse Now?

Is this movie 'doomed'? Will it 'flop'?
Is Francy Ford 'past his prime'?
Is Dan Deacon an 'artistic genius'?
Do u think he can handle 'scoring' a relevant movie?

Is Dan Deacon one of the ultimate entry level alt 'live music experiences'?

Tron: Legacy 'didn't tank', is the #1 movie in the USA

Tron: Legacy is some new Disney movie abt electro, computer games, robots, 3d, and other weird crap that people who drink Mountain Dew would like. However, it seems like Disney did a 'good enough job' of marketing the new Tron movie in order 2 make ppl go see it so it was #1 at the box office.

Tron Legacy raked in an estimated $43.6 million on approximately 5,600 screens at 3,451 locations

Wonder if Daft Punk made 'the right decision' by co-branding themselves with this movie. Feel like it still didn't get a lot of mainstream Avatar-level buzz, so not sure if mainstreamers <3 the Daft Punk brand even more now.

Disney tackled the challenging sell of Tron Legacy by bombarding the public with a massive marketing campaign, hoping to hook viewers with its father-son storyline and the razzle dazzle of its visual effects, even if it didn't make a lick of sense to the uninitiated. Predictably, Legacy's audience skewed heavily male (66 percent), according to Disney's exit polling, and 75 percent was aged 18 years and older.

Which do u think is a more powerful way 2 get people in 2 see ur movie: having a niche electro band do the soundtrack, or 'include the Disney logo' on ur movie poster + have a 'massive marketing campaign'?

Do u think modern movies just 'cheat' 2 get people in2 theatres by using the whole '3D gimmick' which elevates ticket prices and makes studios more $$$?

The 3D illusion was a big part of Tron Legacy's advertising, and 2,424 locations presented the picture in the format, accounting for 82 percent of the gross. That included 234 IMAX 3D venues, which made up 24 percent of the gross. Last year, Avatar had a 71 percent 3D share at a smaller 3D location count (2,038).

Is the IMAX 3D experience 'amazing' or just 'straight up lame'?
Did u see TRON: LEGACY?
Did it 'crush it'?
Was TRON just a 'big pile of crap' that ppl still went 2 go see?
Did Daft Punk 'carry the movie'?
Will Daft Punk some how get 'an Oscar' for 'Best Original Score', or will they lose to Toy Story for "You've Got a Friend In Me"?
Will they show up 2 the Oscars in robot costumes?
Will Thomas Banghalter get an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, or is Christian Bale an automatic lock 4 his role in The Fighter as a crack addict?

Formerly alt magazine VICE has some new show for tweens on MTV

The Vice Guide to Everything - MTV Shows

From what I understand VICE MAGAZINE is some sort of website, magazine, blog, lifestyle brand, porn company, and place that employs tons of alt ppl who are crazy abt alt cultures from around the world. I am pretty young so I don't rlly know what the big deal with their brand is, but I know a lot of cool dads think it is 'really alt', like maybe they 'just barely' beat blogs to 'covering trendy crap with a unique perspective' or something, but that's chill.

Anyways, they have some new show on MTV called THE VICE GUIDE TO EVERYTHING. It seems like Vice is great at creating 'sponsored content' which is the new core of their business model, so it seems natural that they would make a TV show or something. Just not sure abt the target market. Feel like this is supposed to appeal to 'JACKASS'/'World of Jenks'/'Buried Life' type of programming, but rlly not sure how 'interesting' it is.

Honestly feel like MTV viewers would rather watch

16 and preggers

Does n e 1 know if VICE is 'relevant'?
Who watches MTV? Tweens? Do u think they will identify with the VICE brand?
Do u read 'The Vice Guide to _____'/'Dos and Do Nots'?

Should VICE find another channel 2 showcase their zany lil 'I went to the Third World and it is so effed up but at the same time America is so effed up 2 yall' ?
Do tweens care about cool dads going to non-Western parts of the world?
Do u think MTVtweens will identify with these VICE ASS cool dads?

Natalie Portman goes 2 her indie film movie premiere

Natalie Portman went is the 2k0s indie starlet who is trying to 'evolve' her career or something. She went to some movie premiere for her new film BLACK SWAN [link] which is supposed to be brilliant or something.

It is some movie about 'crazy ballet bitches' so both actresses in it lost a bunch of weight, but it seems like Natalie Portman is 'back to her curvy self' now that filming is over.

</embed>

not sure why Nat Portman brought a copy of "Lolita." Maybe she thought the movie is rlly boring, or maybe she is trying to re-brand herself as a 'young, barely legal piece of a$$' that every1 wants

Kinda scared of Nat Portman. Not sure if he career is a 'success' or a 'flop.' Wonder if her career would be better if she had married Ben Affleck or something.

The broad from That 70s Show is also in the film, so that must mean they are trying to get Ashton Kutcher to tweet abt the movie on twitter or something.

Does BLACK SWAN look 'brilliant', 'complex', and 'dark'?
Do u h8 movies abt how 'ballet makes crazy gurlz go insane'?
Are women who do ballet naturally 'crazy' [via eating disorders]?
What is Natalie Portman's career outlook in the 2k10s?
Will she evolve into Meryl Streep, or become the next Tara Reid?
Do u think she is 'pissed' that Zooey Deschanel stole some of her market share and feels pressure 2 start a buzzband?
