As HRO continues to ‘get back 2 itz roots’, it will attempt to reconnect with popular gimmicks that it once utilized. You might remember ‘Altbro or AltBag‘ and possibly ‘Alt or Bro‘–both were games where you had to identify the social genre of a human being. In the following post, you are asked to evaluate whether the woman pictured is a ‘legitimate homeless woman’ or an ‘it girl.’ This is meant to question the reader’s concept of ‘fashion’ and demonstrate the impact of societal role reversal on fashion as a method of self expression.

This gimmick is known as “HOMELESS WOMAN or IT GIRL?????”

HRO is widely known as the origin of ‘the altbro.’ Back in HRO’s altbro era, readers were forced to examine what made up the essence of ‘alt’, along with the essence of ‘bro.’ Carles challenged commenters to determine whether or not the person pictured was an alt or a bro, based on his mental and physical attributes.

ALT or BRO is a new HRO gimmick where readers must decided if the male person pictured is a BRO or an ALT. While we have seen many AltBros, there is a polarizing presence between true bros and true alts. Altbro is synergy, but there are many bros who are not alts, and many alts who are not bros.

In ALT or BRO, the HIPSTER RUNOFF reader must decide if the male pictured is an alt or a bro. In most cases, the man can be a ‘bro dressed as an alt’ or an ‘alt who is ultimately a bro.’ This game is meant to ‘build a sense of community’ within the website.

There is a space which exists between altbro and altbag. Your altbro tendencies are prevalent, but you begin to implement the mature personal branding tools of an altbag.

You have ditched your altbro cap.
You have grown out your altbag nappy beard.
You only wear the Am Appy shirts that represent ‘a new era’ in ur life, as opposed 2 ur neon past.
You finally turned 20, and can drink a premium beer. (The death of SPARKS means a 20% decline in altbro.)
You started 2 give yourself ‘do-it-urself’ haircuts instead of going to Supercuts.
Your zany glasses are somewhere between altbro empty framed glasses and altbag certified child predator glasses.
You are comfortable being a lone soul at a meaningful concert. You have no desire to be photographed with your arm around a group of bros.

2k9 is the beginning of the end of the altbro. It’s not just because ‘a trend is dying’–it also has to do with ‘growing up’ and wanting to take ur existence/personal brand to a whole new level.

Miss u altbros.
