U might not recognize this band, because it is the band Blink 182, before they ‘blew up like crazy.’ (L to R: Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, Thomas DeLonge)

It’s kinda weird these days. I feel bands want to ‘make it’ in a way that means ‘not becoming a huge brand that can sell a bunch of shit to markets that u don’t respect.’ Whether it is tweens or people over the age of 36 who still buy Green Day albums, it seems like bands want to be ’successful’ in a way that is like ‘i just want 2 solid albums, and tons of indie cred.’

Feels weird looking at pictures of Blink 182’s latest tour. Can’t believe they almost ‘broke up 4 good.’ Seems retarded for these types of megaBands 2 break up 4ever. I think that they make like several hundred million dollars per tour. It seems ‘too good to pass up’, even if u ‘didn’t get along with some other bro in ur band.’ Wonder if Grizzly Bear / Animal Collective / The Postal Service / Death Cab 4 Cutie will ever ‘grow old’ with their listeners, and eventually get to play large scale concerts where u overcharge for seats and make tons of money [via selling merch].

Seems lucrative to be Blink 182.

Moms line up with their kids 2 ‘buy merch.’

Blink 182 has appealed to the ‘Cali Bro’ demographic, and bros who dress like ‘cali Bros’ who aren’t from California. Even though they started ’smoking’ and ‘growing facial hair’, they still love what ur band/music means 2 them.

U get to see ur older mexiBro fans mingling with tween girl fans, representing a ‘bridge’ across race + generation

U get 2 be a ‘cool dad‘ and carry around ur child / human accessory

I feel like I will know I have ‘made it’ as a band when I play a large-scale outdoor venue, and I watch two shirtless bros embrace one another, as if they have just seen the ’sickest fucking performance’ in the history of the concert going experience.

Can’t believe Blink 182 has been around for 30 years. I wonder when it is time for a band 2 ‘hang it up’, or is there just ‘2 much money 2 be made’ if you are a respected brand with a tribe of loyal followers/fans who aren’t ‘connected’ enough to find something new 2 enjoy.

Just want to start a band, build an ‘insane’ business model, and continue to let my brand grow old gracefully, continuing to rake in more money as the years go on.
Maybe the best music in the world appeals 2 the most amount of ppl and we should be happy that the bands that the most people like are the most financially successful. I feel like maybe having a ’strict brand’ isn’t necessary–maybe ur brand needs to be ‘confusing’, so that it can appeal to people in multiple demographics who ‘don’t understand life’ and end up trying to ‘be kewl’ via antiquated methods, such as ‘really liking blink182/green day/u2/coldplays.’

Does n e 1 else ‘want 2 throw up’ when u watch Bruce Springsteen ‘perform live’/hear old ppl talk about his ‘amazing performance’?

‘I guess this is growing up, yall’ – the blinking 182times

I think that the marketing team behind Animal Collective are ‘pure geniuses.’ Not only did they ‘perfectly brand’ MerriPostWeather Pavillions, and totally ‘overhauled’ the band’s general brand–they also know how to ‘inject the band into relevant discussions.’ I think this was filmed ‘before MJ died’, but I feel like they somehow knew that ‘MJ was going to die’, and wanted to ‘get as much buzz as possible.’

Sometimes it is important to ‘jump on a megameme‘, such as the MJ death. If you are important/famous/relevant enough, people are ‘interested in hearing what u have to say’ about a newsworthy event. Feels like it is ‘beneficial for content providers’ for an ‘alive famous person’ to reflect upon a ‘dead famous person.’ U can then ‘write a blog news story post’ about it, and get ‘mad hits.’ I think it is important to seem ’sad’ and ‘appreciative’ when some1 who was somewhat influential dies. Sometimes it also seems appropriate to be ’shocked.’

Not sure who is the ‘kewlest’ member of AnCo. Think that Panda ’seems chill.’ Not sure if Avey is ‘well-branded’ in a Gilligan hat/bucket hat. I feel like Geologist’s gimmick of ‘wearing a headlamp’ seems like a great one, but I think he needs to ‘commit himself’ to the gimmick 100%, and wear the headlamp during all hours of the day.

If I had seen him without his headlamp, I would have called him and told him ‘get your goddamn headlamp on.’

Feel like they have probably lost out on hundreds of thousands of dollars worth or ‘merch revenue’ by not selling a Geologist headband.

Would definitely rather have a headlamp than a ‘bucket hat.’
Still trying to ‘brainstorm’ sweet merchandising ideas for indie bands. Starting a consulting firm.

I always feel sad when a shitty band from my local scene goes on tour. They are ‘pumped’ about their future, expanding their fan base, and get to remind ppl how awesome ‘bein on the road’ is [via facebook status/twitter/etc]. Before going on tour, a band must come up with merch, burn a bunch of CDs for resale, and possibly make a massive stickers+buttons order. Thinking about buying more than just t-shirts this year. Might actually ‘buy a human’ that is branded with our band, and sell him/her as a sex slave. Apparently females buy more t-shirts, so we might sell a male instead of a woman. Might take a good bro on tour to work the merch table.

Feel excited about human trade, and branding humans for profit. Reminds me of when America was ‘actually pretty awesome’ [via slavery]. Kinda weird how different things are now.

My band is taking our bassist’s mom’s van on the road. Gonna try hard not to hotbox it.

It’s gonna be sick. It’ll be a tight squeeze, but I think we’ll remember these hard times when we are touring across the country in a sweet tour bus, playing PlayStation4 and getting our dicks sucked by groupies. We just gotta pay our dues. I know our music is good, and we have a cool layout and a devoted fan of followers on twitter/myspace. We just gotta grow with our local scene, and prove to the bigger cities that we have a really good product. I think if we just keep playing, raise some money for studio time, then put in a lot of hard work to market it and get it into the hands of the right people, then we can do it. Might film meaningful parts of our road trip, then make a ‘tour video’ with our most meaningful song in the background.

This tour is going to be the start of something beautiful.
Going to start working on t-shirt designs. Will probably have a bird, some sort of guitar, and something ‘natural’ with our band name written in a kewl font. Printed on American Appy shirts.

Do yall know any annoying bands in ur local scene who think they are going to make it?
Feel free to post their myspace/twitter URL in the comments, and tell people ‘why’ they are funnie. Like ‘______ is a shitty indie band from _____ trying to make it. They are funnie because the lead singer works at Starbucks and dates the local altWhore.’
