Like she would show her extended family her tattoo, then they would make her play Weezer. Then all of her family would ‘make fun of her’ for ‘being too white’, making her feel guilty for breaking away from traditional African American interests and tastes. I feel like it would be ‘more acceptable’ for a white person to get a ‘hip hop tattoo.’ I feel like they would experience less backlash within their social circles. It seems ‘unfair.’

Can’t believe Kanye West shops at Am Appy. Not sure if this makes me want to wear it more/less. Not sure if this means that American Apparel is meant for people of all races, or that they are trying to be some sort of upscale blipster brand. Feels weird that Kanye West used to have a ‘different image.’ Wonder if he was still ‘demented’ back then. Feels weird to ‘look back’ on ‘rappers who we thought were going to be different than every other rapper’, but eventually all ‘hip hop stars’ turn in2 the same thing.

Yall. I feel like I might have developed a bad/potentially racist habit. I feel like whenever I see a group of black males who are ‘dressed progressively’, I look for the face of Kanye West 2 be proudly looking at me, like ‘hey yall…just dressed nice and fashionable. not really dressed like a traditionally black person.’ Think that this might be some progressive kind of racial profiling. Might be ‘too educated’ for my own good to the point that I have developed a post-racial mindset. Not sure if police officers will ever experience it, since they are usually dealing with the ‘thug aesthetic.’

I feel like ‘black people who wear streetwear’ are sort of indistinguishable. the ’streetwear’ look/aesthetic seems to be too mainstream to enable some1 to stand out. With most rappers, I wouldn’t be able to tell if they were ‘famous and relevant artists’ or ‘just another dude walking on the side of the road in a tall tee/wife beater.’ I ‘feel guilty’ for thinking that, but I just want 2 know if I am ‘normal’, or what I could do to have a healthier mindset.

I guess it’s a good thing that Kanye West is shifting paradigms. I think that he could inspire a generation of young black people to ‘dress nice’, but I think it conflicts with the core value of ‘nice shit being expensive, and showing off how much money u have by buying expensive stuff.’ Feel like Puff Daddy/Sean John is a better model for ‘affordable urban wear.’

I feel like males dominate Blipsterdom, since it is easy for them to adapt to new styles. However, most girls who are alt and want to be blipster-core have a more difficult time showcasing their personal brand. Should I still drink coffee/tazzoberry from Starbucks, or should I support a local independent coffee shop?
