Hey yall. Just “writing a blog” to post a CFCF remix of The Presets. In the past, I have posted remixes of The Presets & remixes by CFCF. I think it’s important 2 stay consistent bc it makes u a better person.

When we look back on the remixing career of CFCF in 100 blog years, we will remember him sort of like we remember a valuable team member of a championship sports team. Even though he wasn’t a personally-branded superstar who tweens consume, we will value his contributions to the blog+remix economy.

BTW I really like this new ‘lounge-musicky’ era of remixes now that the Banger Remix Economy is dead. ‘Chill remixes’ prove that we can’t simulate the club all of the time, so sometimes it’s good to find some ambient middle ground.

Is "HEALTH DISCO" an implied product that all modern artists should be required to make?

I’ve always found the consumer acceptance of HEALTH to be an interesting thing to try to understand. They were co-branded with Crystal Castles with the hit blogville song “Crimewave,” and they’ve had a ton of remixes made for the club and for plenty of alternative bro iPods. Even though they play hardcore concept rock, they understand the power of the remix, and have utilized it to create a stronger brand.

They put all of their remixes on an album and called it HEALTH DISCO.

I think it’s safe to assume that there’s less blog readers who buy actual albums, and way more d-bags who browse record stores to buy CDs. I could see a lot of people who have never heard some of these remixes but enjoy thinking that Health is really good purchasing “HEALTH DISCO.”

When I start to think about HEALTH too much, I wonder if I would feel the same about them if they didn’t have remixes. If NO AGE had their songs remixed by popular producers, would I buy into them? Without remixes of Health, I might have written a post about ‘how I don’t understand why people like HEALTH so much.’

But yeah, I like a few Health songs and a few of their remixes, and I think blog-fueled music has kind of needed a hardcoreish band to counterbalance too much electro or too much weinery indie rock on all types of blogs. Health has a highly bloggable production model.

I also think they were pretty fortunate that the CFCF remix turned out to be one of the best ‘remixes of a hardcore-ish song that a producer managed to convert into a pop hit.’

While there have been plenty of REMIX ALBUMS already, I feel like Health is one of the first bands to release most of these remixes to blogs to keep their buzz sustained as they toured, then actually put them on an album for consumption beyond blog-readers and DJs.

I think the CFCF RMX of Sally Shapiro should [HIGHLY DISCOURAGE] most bedroom producers from following their dreams of becoming the world’s next big electro-act.

Here is a FAN VIDEO of the original version of the song. Is it alright to blog fan videos about a love story between a fox and a cat? What Would Pitchfork.TV do?

Please don’t let this animated love story discourage you from checking out the CFCF Remix. The track lends itself well to his style.

MOULINEX 2k8

DISCO TEXAS continues to make progress into reality.

Moulinex’s Cut Copy remix was distributed a week or two ago in a secret email between some of the world’s top bloggers. It’s easy to blog about both Cut Copy and Moulinex, making Cut Copy – Lights and Music (Moulinex Remix).mp3 a [HIGHLY BLOGGABLE // A PROBABLE HYPE MACHINE POPULAR TRACK].

I think it’s pretty interesting to take note of an artist’s stock by the strength and notoriety of the remixes that they do. For example, CFCF pulled off the REMIX TRIPLE CROWN of 2007 by remixing Crystal Castles, The Teenagers, and Health. Additionally, the Teenagers might have worked their way into the REMIXER hall of fame with the strength of most of their efforts. There are probably some other obvious ones.

I think Moulinex does a pretty good job of taking songs to a different level. I also posted Moulinex’s remix of WSGM’s “You Should Be Someone Else,” which may have been lost in a PalmsOut Sunday black hole. While of course the Cut Copy rmx is good, I think that the WSGM remix is a better example of Moulinex imposing his sound on the song.

BEFORE DANCEFLOORASAURASES RULED THE EARTH

When it comes to issues of sustainability with blog-worthy bands, I think HEALTH should be proud of their 2007 + future prospects. It’s probably one the top American ‘new-ish’ band type of business models that’s worth emulating.

Here are some of my favourite things about the HEALTH 2k7 business model:
1. Delivered authentic aesthetic (their sound + their live shows)
2. Solid Remixes that didn’t detract from their original product
3. Great crossbranding strategies with that whole Crystal Castles merger
4. The use of this picture:

5. Lots of touring
6. Embracing blog luv

This remix is about not getting too dancey, but still being a tyte RMX. I appreciate the commentary in the name of this HEALTH remix.

Teenagers Love Blogs

A lot of people could probably complain about the Teenagers’ core interest being built by something as flighty as the blogosphere, but that shouldn’t take away from their historical relevance when we’re looking back in 10 years.

Never has a band satiated my appetite for them on such a consistent basis, with the right amount of content to keep me excited about them for nearly a year. Their stream of demos, remixes, originals, and videos are all worth blogging about, by as many blogs as possible.

The Teenagers have convinced me that there’s no such thing as too much Teenagers and there’s never enough Teenagers.

Here’s some pretty solid remixes of/by the Teenagers. I’m looking forward to what CFCF will do in 2008.

CFCF on Viva Radio

Listen to CFCF’s radio show on Viva Radio. CFCF’s originals, remixes, and radio show are all worth blogging about.

CFCF says about his show:

Basically, I’ll play anything I’ve been enjoying over the past several years, from soft rock to italo to rap, hardcore punk, soul, noise, dance, electro…all that jazz (but no jazz)

CFCF’s Show is Friday 3pm-4pm Eastern Standard Time. However, you can listen to archived shows whenever you want.
Viva Radio might be a good option for people at work, or people who are trying to find a one day per week Hype Machine substitute. The Viva-Radio interface is actually pretty functional, and probably a model for ‘the future of radio.’

CFCF is probably the blogosphere’s next hot remixer.
His original stuff is really good, too. It definitely has a Jan Hammer vibe meets pop music from the year 2020. Even though it’s electronic, there’s a very approachable organic feel to it.

CFCF just released a new song “Raining Patterns.”

His Health and Justice Remixes are ridonk, too.

HEALTH it up

Health is a band that was built for the modern world. In a music landscape where your music needs to translate well in a live setting, and manage to be remixable, it’s easy to understand why HEALTH is such an easy band to add to your list of ‘Favorite Music’ on your profile. After a split release with Crystal Castles, HEALTH is in the process of becoming the next blogosphere sweet hearts. Basically, they have really good songs and really good remixes.
