Feel like this video meme really deconstructed my newfound interest in conceptual music that sounds like it is a mix of being ‘from nature’ and ‘from the modern world.’ Wonder if some of my fave conceptual bands like the Grizzling Bear or AnCo or Here We Go Neon Indians might start incorporating ‘plants’ into their live set. Seems like it would make them ‘incredibly meme-able.’ Wonder if this bro will get signed by an indie record label. Seems like he has a lot of talent. Maybe he can write a jingle for the Toyota Prius, or another hybrid automobile/trendy ‘green’ product.

I feel ‘ashamed’ to have blogged about this, because it sort of reminds me of a ‘cool science teacher’ sharing something ‘interesting’ with a glass of 7th graders to get them pumped about photosynthesis. h8 tree playing bro s00 bad. But I think he created a really sweet typeface/’font.’

Sorta wish I could just be a ‘regular bro’ who would just say that this meme is ‘cool’ and move along in search of the next ‘kewl web bit’/viral vid…but I feel like I’m searching 4 more than that in my eExistence.

This meme sorta reminds me of when that old bro David Byrne ‘played a building.’ Think that was more of a metaphor about ‘the city’ and ‘urbanization.’ Seems like a bro who has gone ‘off the conceptual deep end.’ Feels alienating when ‘artists’ take ‘art’ s000 srsly.

Not sure how I feel about bros playing things that ‘aren’t real instruments.’ Seems like they are just ‘huge ass holes’ who are ‘making noise.’ Seems unnatural and forced even though they are trying to seem ‘natural.’

Might chainsaw that bro’s tree down as some sort of metaphor, kinda like Banksy/other ‘vandal’ artists. Just want to destroy ’something beautiful’, kinda like Tyler Durden in the The League of Fighting Men Clubs.

My entire life has been focused on ‘moving to the city.’ I hear a lot of songs about ‘the city’ and see a lot of meaningful pictures of culture/daily life from ‘the city.’ Within ‘the city’ is a network of creative people and a thriving public transportation system. In the context of the city, doing even the most trivial things like ‘going to the store to buy groceries to prepare a meal’ is more meaningful than the exact same process in suburbia. (less fossil fuels)

The concept of ‘the city’ might be dead. Authentic Alts are ‘raging against the city’ because s0 many mainstreamers are ‘moving in’ (also a high cost of living). I am not sure what will be a more authentic place to live in the future: ‘the wilderness’ or ’suburbia.’

The Wilderness seems like you could ‘really chill out’ and listen to some AnCo. You can ‘be alone with your thoughts’ and just get kind of raw, unwired, and uncut.

But I feel like I could really tap into a lot of creative angst if I ‘lived in a place like suburbia.’ I could really reflect on the human experience, and how so many people will never ‘achieve happiness’ because they don’t ‘get’ how space/architecture has a direct impact on their lives’. There are just so many people around u ‘living the same life as u’ that u ‘get kinda down’ and feel ‘a lil bit meaningless.’

I listen to the Animal Collectives on a weekly basis. I think I ‘like’ them because they are differentiated from ‘traditional music’ and ‘modern indie music.’ When I listen to them, I exist on a higher plane of musical appreciation and consume products for ‘all the right reasons.’ For the past couple of months, the whole world has been awaiting the LEAK of the album Merriweather Post Pavillion. I was one of them. I was not awaiting the chance to purchase physical copy of the album, but instead I was a proud member of the LEAK HUNTING army for this album. Fortunately, a conceptual Santa slid down my chimney to deliver the best xmas gift of all–the leak was officially released by the Internet around Christmas of 2k8.

When I first saw the album art for the new AnCo album, I knew it would be amazing. I knew the album was more than just a series of bloggable mp3s, and the album art was more than just a meme.

I like ‘looking forward to things’ because it is a gimmick that makes my life worth living. With all of this anticipation for the album release of what I perceived to be a relatively-niche band, I wonder if I am living in a world that is completely out of touch with ‘what real people listen to/consume/value in music. How BIG OF A DEAL is the new Animal Collective/what social constructs do I realisticially expect it to break down? Can they be 1 of the newest relevant crossover alt artists? Even if you put AnCo head2head with other ‘alternative artists’ who ‘have a worldwide universal appeal on a commercial/spiritual level’ and are regarded as ‘being culturally relevant’ and ‘progressive’ at the same time, do u think Animal Collective can compare to these bands?

Is Anco as approachable as Radiohead?
Is Anco as approachable as the Arcade Fire?
Is Anco as approachable as Feist?
Is Anco more/less approachable for Joe Suburbia to consume than _________?

Where does Animal Collective realistically sit in this hierarchy of critical acclaim vs. pop appeal vs. actually selling albums? I feel like they are sort of like a ‘really funny, progressive comedy that got cancelled from cable TV’ in band format, except they are a band so they don’t get ‘cancelled’–they get the opportunity to move forward become more authentic, letting their fan base ‘grow’ with them.

When I first started listening to Animal Collective, they had a smaller following, and playing them in my car for a group of friends was often met with a lot of ‘what is this krazie noise, yall?’s. Back then, AnCo was way more acoustic/conceptual/NOISECORE/lofi/etc. These days, they are a bit more electro conceptual tribal. Animal Collective uses progressive samples and instruments to make ‘modern pop music.’ Not every one is ready to embrace this concept. Not every one is able to say ‘OMG. they have the pop sensibilities of the Beach Boys’ because they probably don’t read+regurgitate music tidbits & opinions from the internet on a daily/weekly basis.

In 2k8, there was the electro jungle, populated by entry levels in Am Appy headbands + neon/Afrikan leggings & altbros in oversized graphic print tees. Now that we live in a less-electro era, we will venture into the Conceptual Forest. In this forest, we can hear songs more conceptual, open-ended songs. The Conceptual Forest is an incubator for authentic expression and progressive techniques of recording sounds.

In the Conceptual Forest, our minds are free, and we seek ‘meaning’ that we cannot find in a major metropolitan area. We are alone in this Conceptual Forest, allowing us to get in touch with who we truly are.
