Getting an old bro, Deakin 'back'

Really felt like an AnCo show, but better. Familiar technology. Lights. Button pressing.

Visuals 'stunning' me. Taking me to a different place

Lights projecting, utilizing space, altering space.
This is art, architecture, and design. This is life.

Conceptual Icicles

Powered by modern technology

The Largest assembly of relevant alts in attendance

For one night, the Guggenheim was transformed into the most relevant space in the history of the world. Time + space created a portal of energy that looked like the Merriweather Post Pavvy cover.
I was there the night that indie rock changed.
The night we finally accepted that we wanted bands to be more than four white people playing music on a stage at a relevant club
We want them to take us on a journey
as artists and humans

Some bands will come along for the journey
Other bands will swirl down the metaphorical shitter
and be forgotten like yesterday's turd

This experience can only be experienced
if ur here

but my duty as a blogger
as an alt internet user
as a human with a dig cam
is to take these memories with me
and give them to you.

Artistic branding
differentiating your product
while helping people to connect with it
making every1 in suburbia yearn 2 be a part of it

AnCo
shattering pre-existing norms
of what we want a band 2 be
5 senses taken 2 the next level

$25 admission fee
bros in costumes standing around for 6 hours
While relevant alternative ppl 'partied' at cash bars
feeling relevant
lights, sounds, life
Was it worth it?

********
Is the Animal Collective brand stronger than ever?
Did this show look 'sweet' or like an entry level first year art student's end-of-the-term project?
Was this show a 'success'?
Is 'art' bullshit?
Will Animal Collective's strong links to drug culture prevent them from 'crossing over'?
Is Danny Perez a 'genius' or does Animal Collective need to start collaborating with other art bros?
Will ODDSAC win an Oscar?
Will the Guggenheim performance win a Grammy?
Could Panda Bear win American Idol?

Is Avey Tare's wife 'trying 2 hard' 2 be conceptual/meme-worthy?

Yall might know Kria Brekkan as the wife of popular 2k9 buzzband 'the Animal Collective', more specifically, the band member Avey 'David Portner' Tare. She has apparently already created tons of music on her own, as well as with the popular Icelandic runoff band "múm." [via the post-Bjork+SigurRos era]. (not sure if Iceland still has a thriving creative economy now that their 'financial/real' economy is 'in the shitter')

I recently saw Kria Tare-Brekkan's new LP cover, and wondered what it was all about. Appears to be a concept album based on the popular female topic of fluid in the uterus.

Felt confused, since I am a bro, and from what I understand, I don't even have a uterus. It seems like it might be an indie album directed towards 'the female demographic', perhaps ages 25-45. Sorta like the popular television series 'Sex and the City.' For those of yall who didn't take sex-ed [via conservative private education/middle-american public school], here is where the uterus is located.

Went ahead and did some research to attempt to find out 'why a woman would have water in her uterus.'

Feel worried. Thought uterus water might mean that 'life' was being cultivated, but it seems like it might be a legitimate health concern. Maybe this is going to be a 'dark' female album, as opposed to the light-hearted conceptual fluff that tons of female indie artists 'put out.' Seems like we are growing up, and the music 'we' listen to has tons of 'adult themes'? Maybe life isn't about 'partying'/'being free' in 2k10... Just want to be involved in a conceptual union with a human who I love.

Do u think people will take me seriously as an AnCo fan if I 'overcompensate' with interest in an AnCo auxilary band/wife?

Is Uterus Water the new 'Horchata'?

///what fluid will be 'big in 2k10'?

Avey Tare lets ppl stream his album on NPR, gets divorced from his wife

Avey Tare is doing the thing where he is letting ppl stream his new album "Down There" 4 free on NPR even though it already leaked and most of his early adopter fans already 'found the leak' [via rapidshare / mediafire]. Guess he is just hoping that cool dads buy his albums off iTunes/at Best Buy/on lala.com. That's chill. Really not sure if the members of Animal Collective really care about making money, it seems like there is a huge competitive spirit within the band, and Avey Tare is basically trying to 'assert his alpha dog status' in the band, making Panda Bear feel like a 'huge failure' for not having an album ready.

Avey Bro also made this 'intensely personal' artsy interview video abt the process of making the video. He talks about a lot of weirdo things like Big Foot, crocodiles, and ghost stories, but then he talks about being 'mad bummed out' about splitting from his wife Kria Brekken. Seems really personal/artsy.

Wonder if a bunch of artists are going to 'rip off' this sort of blazed, introspective confessional artsy interview gimmick. Is Dave Portner the most important member of Animal Collective? Is this the only context in which you would listen to an artist ramble for 20 minutes abt their album?

Seems like "Down There" is kinda heavy. It seems like the record is abt divorce, Avey's Grandmother dying, and his sister getting cancer.

Does Dave Portner seem like a chill bro?
How many times did he say 'vibes'?
Do u just wanna 'be there' for Dave bro?

Do u think he h8s Panda Bear/enjoys 'crushing his soul'?
Is Avey Tare elevating his brand way above Panda Bear?
Would Noah Lennox ever get this vulnerable with his fans?
Is "Down There" the album of the year?
R u gonna 'stream this album' on NPR, or do u already have 'the leak'?
Did Kria Brekken ruin her life/career by divorcing Avey Tare?
Now that Avey is single, will his music be better?
Is Avey Tare indie music's most eligible bachelor?

BREAKING NEWS: AVEY TARE GOES SOLO, PLANS TO TAKE ON PANDA BEAR, STARTS ANCO WAR OF 2010

Avey Tare and Panda Bear are known as the John Lennon and Paul McCartney of Animal Collective, in a constant struggle to assert their status as 'the #1 member of Animal Collective.' It seems like Avey Tare has 'just released news' that his album is coming out to spoil the vibes of the upcoming Panda Bear release TOMBOY. Every1 thought Panda Bear's album would 'save' 2k10, but it looks like there might be room for only 1 of them in the race for the album of 2k10.

DEVELOPING...

Dave Portner AKA Avey Tare was born in Baltimore County, Maryland on April 24th in the year of 1979. He moved to New York City in 1997 where he resides to this day (in south Brooklyn). Though he spends most of his time writing songs and producing sounds (usually in the group Animal Collective) he also is an intense record collector, film fanatic, book head, friend, and traveler. It's from these things primarily that Mr. Portner gets his inspiration, still striving to blend sounds and discover musical territory that seems unfamiliar. His favorite animals are the otter and crocodile. The later has played a big role in his newest record.

Down There is a world of nine new songs from Animal Collective's Avey Tare. His first official solo full length carries you through a murky world of sound, an alien death world of soul grooves that is both honest and otherworldly. Wait for sundown and turn it up loud. Take a ride on this haunted boat and let yourself be guided through deep sloshy rhythms, waterlogged bass, and moonlit breaks in the canopy that reveal a crisp crystalline pop buzz. Down There was recorded in the month of June by old friend Josh Dibb (Deakin) at the Good House, an old church in upstate New York, surrounded by The Great Swamp and visited regularly by monks, white widows, and groan toads.

DEVELOPING...

It seems like this might prove that there is a 'rift' between Deakin and Panda Bear, proving that their vibes don't really mesh well, but Avey is chill with Deakin. Worried that Avey is releasing an album to 'prove' that he is the most important member/most prolific solo member of Animal Collective. Wonder if there is 'a huge psychological rift' in the AnCo band.

DEVELOPING...

Are yall on #TeamAvey or #TeamPanda?

Feel like he is trying to 'brand' the crocodile as being more authentic than a Panda Bear

Jesus. Tracklist sounds 'intense', possibly better song titles than Panda Bear's TOMBOY album

01 Laughing Hieroglyphic
02 3 Umbrellas
03 Oliver Twist
04 Glass Bottom Boat
05 Ghost of Books
06 Cemeteries
07 Heads Hammock
08 Heather in the Hospital
09 Lucky

DEVELOPING...

Will Avey Tare solo project 'save' 2k10?
Is Avey Tare the most important member of Animal Collective?
Is Panda Bear 'pissed' that Avey stole his spotlight, or is this some sort of 'synergistic PR ploy' to get them the most buzz possible?
Do u hope they are critical of one another in interviews, or at least provide a misleading quote that we can take out of context?
Will TOMBOY still save 2k10?
Will the Avey vs Panda conflict of 2k10 save 2k10?
Will AnCo reunite, or will these concurrent album cycles divide the band forever?
Will Avey and Noahbro finish 'back 2 back' in slots 1 and 2 of the Album of the Year race?
Is Animal Collective 'the Miami Heat' of the indiesphere?

Just wanna ride chillwaves on a crocodile who is chomping on buzz mp3s floating in the wavves

Avey Tare named ‘Alt American Icon’ in NME article abt ‘the rebirth of US indie music’

NME is a British 'rock magazine' that may or may not be relevant. Feel like it might just be 'The Rolling Stone' of The UK or something, so not sure if that is 'a compliment' or 'a diss.' I think this is probably just some 'minimal blurb' in their magazine, but Avey Tare got 'coverage' so I guess that is bloggable since he is in a post-buzzband. Might pretend that I still 'honor magazines' as being legitimate, and this is a 'big deal' because one of my fave indie bands got blurbed about.

this seems to be some sort of segment called 'The Rebirth of US Indie Rock.' I guess those ass holes across the ocean are trying to 'take over' the indie brand. Guess they can have it since it is irrelevant/dead n e ways. USA is rlly conceptcore/chillwave/bleep bloopy these days, so I am not sure if we are into 'ghey bands' like The Muse of The Kings of Leon [via the Lion Kings]. h8 u NME for trying to act like the USA doesn't produce the best music in the world. AnCo is gonna take yall down in the World Cup of post-indie bands.

Did Avey disclose 'anything new and exciting' about the band, or is it the same AnCo interview/info that we've been consuming for the past 5 years?

Sorta wish he would talk about 'band beef' or something.
Hope that one day we learn something about 'the dark side' of AnCo, or maybe they will make a traditional rock documentary where they talk about the major rifts in the group, and what ultimately 'kept them together.'

Just want to connect with AnCo, but wish they'd give us a lil bit more.
Guess I'm just gonna have to wait for TOMBOY and hope it is as good as a complete AnCo album.
Wonder if Avey Tare is gonna go on some sort of trivial 'press tour' just 2 try to steal some of Panda Bear's buzz.
Are yall on #TEAMAVEY or #TEAMPANDA?

Photograph of Animal Collective 'Before They Were Famous / Relevant' Emerges.

This photo of AnCo, also known as the popular band Animal Collective has emerged on the internet. The photograph features Avey Tare (Dave Portner), some random bro, Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), and Deakin / Deacon (Josh Dibb). We can see that they used to be 'just like you' when you were going through your formative alternative stage, wearing what seem to be low cost and/or thrift store tshirts.

It is interesting to note that Avey Tare has stayed loyal to his bucket hat, even though he is more rich and famous, and probably could wear more expensive hats.

What do you think about their brand now & then? Have they transformed into relevant alternative celebrities, or do they look like the same ppl they used to be?

10 years ago, would u guess that 3 of these humans would become some of the most important trendsetters in the history of post-indie rock?
Do the 'weirdest' ppl in high school end up becoming the most successful?
