Just watched this video of Deerhunter playing on Conan O'Brien's new show on TBS. I'm not sure if any1 even watches that show, or if people just still do the whole thing where they are like 'I LOVE CONAN' but don't watch him. Anyways, Brady Cox went on the show with his band Deerhunter. Can't say that it was a memorable performance. If I were a mainstreamer, I defs would changed the channel and been like 'huh? smoke machine? Who is this dude? Why is this song so boring?' As an indie bro, I feel like I value the mp3 version of "Helicopter" but not sure if I dig this shoegaze reinterpretation.
Sorta feels like Conan is going to start booking tons of indie buzzbands just to get 'blog coverage' the day after his shows. Really confused. Thought Deerhunter was just one of those bands with a 'cool sounding name.' Feel like they are pushing some sort of 'indie agenda' to move Bradley Cox to a tier 1 indie star, standing side by side with Noah, Avey, Win, Regine, Zooey, Joanny, Thom, and other Grade A alt celebs who we know on a first-name basis.
Feeling confused about the closing paragraph. Think this album is supposed to 'emotionally resonate' with indie fans because they had a lofi DIY marketing launch, the lyrics are cryptic, and the album 'has emotions inside of it.'
Deerhunter unveiled their new album by asking fans to print out a vintage DIY-style poster, photocopy it, and tape it up all over town. In the last couple of weeks, band members have participated in all-night online chats with some of their most devoted fans. We'll never be able to parse every lyric or tease out every technical intricacy-- though somebody will probably try-- but that is what Halcyon Digest is all about: nostalgia not for an era, not for antiquated technology, but for a feeling of excitement, of connection, of that dumb obsession that makes life worth living no matter how horrible it gets. I am not sure what the deal with Deerhunter is. I don't really know any1 who says 'Deerhunter is my favourite band', but I guess they make decent albums and generate buzz on blog sites [via Bradford Cox]. Not sure if he should just 'focus on Atlas Sound' or possibly just focus on Deerhunter. Maybe Deerhunter will crossover if they write more songs that sound like the Killers.
N e ways, some group of high school bros threw down a rowdy alt cover of "Nothing Ever Happened", a song from several hundred blog years ago, but possibly one of Bradford Cox's best songs, except for the 1 he wrote with Panda Bear.
