My Grandfather = AltBro?
Photo via advancedstyle

I love my grandfather. He is seriously the coolest bro I know. I call him 'pappy'. Every holiday and birthday he gives me several hundred dollars. It really helps out, since I had to start paying my own rent last year after I graduated from design school. When my mom is 'a bitch' to me, he is a dick to her since he birthed her. He's on my side.

I made a mix CD for my grandfather full of popular bloghaus mp3s. Ever since then he has been 'mesmerized' by modern youth culture. It's like he feels like he missed out on a lot of cool shit. Ever since then, he started a blogspot, bought an iPhone, bought a macbook, started a twittr, bought some neon wayfarers, purchased $700 worth of Am Appy, and started going to a weekly electro night. He started reading my favourite blog, the hipSt*rRun0ff. I feel kinda proud, but I also feel 'sort of embarrassed.'

Sometimes u do something to make ur parents/family 'feel connected 2 u'/ur 'culture', and they 'get way too into it'? HAs this ever happened 2 u? How do u handle it? Do ur parents like some kewl band more than u do after you made them a mix CD? Did ur parents recently go to an indie rock show? Do ur parents ask u 'how do u find kewl music on the modern world?'

Who is the 'best indie band' 2 put on a mix CD for ur parents?
do u have chill parents who r ur 'bros'?

Do u think u will ever be 'uncool' and 'connected to an irrelevant culture'?
Worried.

Dressing Like a Zany Grandmother: Big in 2k60 (when ur a grandparent)

I remember at Lollapaltlooza, when Uffie came on stage dressed like a drugged up grandmother, the world was in trouble--a new zany trend would emerge. While many alts attempt to be forever young, some are starting to dress like old people. Santogold (A.K.A. "the African American M.I.A.) is wearing this house dress that old white women use when they disinfect their entire house with Lysol and watch soap operas. However, this old lady dress has a little bit of an electro aesthetic 2 it in order 2 'appeal to the entry level alts who think they understand quirky fashion.'

but seriously yall... beware of Santogolds electro-bodyguards. They are more ruthless than the Chinese government. :-(

69 year old Granny DJ is latest electro meme.

This video is a profile piece of some old ass lady who is a 'grandmother', but decided to become a DJ. I am not sure if this is real, it might be something that a fake electro magazine did to get hits/youtube views. Ruth Flowers started DJing when her grandson had a birthday party, then she figured out that she could DJ 'harder' than young electro DJs, so she started her act. She allegedly gets gigs at 'relevant clubs' in France.

Does she seem like she is 'legit', or just acting like a senile old lady?  Is DJing easy enough for an old person 2 do?  Has modern technology like Serato, Ableton, and miscellaneous iPhone DJing 'leveled the playing field' for all DJs?

Do u think she had some sweet chemistry with these electro producer bros, or do they seem kinda pissed at her?

Wonder if she has 'sick skills' on the sound board.

Here is an example of a lame voice over from the piece. Seems like the electro local news, or something:

DJ Ruth dresses slightly like Kanye West because she thinks that's what you have to do to get down with the kids, but as she rapidly approaches her 70th birthday, you would have thought she would want to start thinking about hanging up her headphones. Not the case, apparently. DJ Ruth has got a full schedule of gigs penciled in to the club calendar.

Does DJing help the elderly fight Alzheimer's Disease?
Can old people do the same stuff young ppl can do, or should we keep them confined in retirement communities?
IS 'age' just a number?
Is DJ Ruth the next Justice / Uffie/ Crystal Castles?
Will DJ Ruth save electro / inspire a 'revival' of blog house?
Should DJ Ruth 'die' soon?
R u going to encourage ur grand parents to 'get off their asses' and do something relevant?
Is this a real video/human, or just a viral marketing ad for a progressive retirement community?
