I started this blog to post bangers, but it ended up giving me a great opportunity to vent about things that I feel passionate about. I remember the night that I started this blog, I was stealing wifi in a Best Buy Parking Lot, and I tried to overdose on an unknown drug, but then I started a blog instead, and became the first blog to ever blog about Justice. The rest is history, and now a lot of historians consider HRO to be the voice of “the specialest generation in the history of the world.”

While some people get off to standing on the sidelines of life, and just making snarky comments about things that are actually important, I’m not one of those people. I don’t have a blog that makes fun of issues, other humans, or important social and cultural movements. It’s important to take things seriously, because we don’t want to become a society where the dumb people are watching TV in HD, and the educated people are commenting about stuff that the dumb people are into on the internet.

Most blogs have remained incredibly silent on this issue, but I am taking a stand.

Here are several solutions for ending the emo war:
1. Have the United Nations drop care packages full of Ed Banger Sampler CDs and iPod shuffles pre-loaded with mixes selected by Gorilla Vs. Bear.
2. Set up INTERNMENT CAMPS, kind of like what America did with the AZNs after that Pearl Harbor thingie, except with EMOs.
3. Send them all on a boat to Australia, but only let them settle in the part that Mad Max was filmed in.
4. The US government can double the yearly-salaries of all of the World’s Top Alternative Celebrities, and have them rehabilitate and educate emo kids on the campus of the New School.
5. Set up a reality show that’s kind of like KID NATION meets a SURVIVOR type of show.
6. Just chill out and see what happens.

Do you have a solution to end the EMO WARS?

I can’t believe EMO kids are being hunted down and beaten in Mexico. Basically, the heavy metal kids, punks, pop-listeners, skaters, goths, and every other subculture is having rallies in order to FIGHT AGAINST THE EMOS.

From a Mexican emo war reporter’s blog:

The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city’s Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some. The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There’s also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere.

Here’s a video from it. You can really see the tension between the EMOS and the PUNKS:

Anyways, I just wanted to congratulate Mexico on going out of it’s way to EXTERMINATE a trend, as opposed to just simply moving into a new consumer-driven trend with a little bit of a self-loathing tone.

It’s good to see that people can unite using the internet, and stand up for a cause. I mean, myspace drama is one thing, but to transform that passion into a WITCH HUNT where emo kids are beaten down in broad daylight is simply amazing. Maybe Obama should stand up agains the emos.

I think the thing that is the most disappointing about this whole re-introduction of EMO into my sphere of consciousness is that there still isn’t really a definite answer on ‘What emo is.’ I always thought the American meaning of ‘emo’ was sort of ambiguous, but it’s good to know that the Mexicans went ahead and set the definition EMO=PUSSY WHO SHOULD BE LYNCHED.

It’s also important to take some time to celebrate your consumer self-awareness, and your freedom to express yourself without fear of one group of idiots killing your group of idiots. It’s good to live in a country where we can transition from partaking in one trend to a complete new one, without having to explain why we decided to change.

I [HIGHLY REC] reading more about Mexico’s systematic extermination of emos. There are even suggestions of government conspiracy.

Hilarious thread about the anti-emo movement
http://www.last.fm/group/Anti+Emo+Death+Squad/forum/28627/_/392476

The Animal Collective concert has been a much-hyped event within my circle of friends. I’m sure like every one else, we consider ourselves ‘an exclusive group of people who appreciate the social and historical relevance of Animal Collective.’ You know, we GET Them, or whatever. With that type of mindset, there was a huge chance that it wouldn’t meet high expectations, because of any of the following generic reasons or small events that you thought would alter the course of the night:

The sound guys wouldn’t turn off the raggae when the band was about to go on, and each member tried to get the sound dude’s attention.

Some guy who was tripping threw an empty water bottle that missed Panda Bear’s head by a few inches.

The Band is still mourning the absence of Deakin?

The crowd was ‘lame.’

A girl standing in front of you with a FEELS tattoo

Does this make me cooler because I got in?

{ Courtesy of LensEnvy }

So in the modern world, it’s pretty easy to be a downer. With so many people, it definitely did have that feel of ‘the time that I went to see Death Cab after Transatlanticism.’

The truth is that Animal Collective is too good to let any sort of small crap that most ass holes get caught up in when they go to a show get in their way. It was really just an amazing show, where the music never stopped. Great sounds, visually stunning. AnCo was successful in that it ‘made us ask questions about what popular music is’ as we moved along to the tribal electronic hits. (Please note that as a member of Generation Y, it’s just important to evaluate the concert in terms of how it would affect me, and possibly change my life).

I didn’t get there at 6:00 PM to stand in the front so I could take sweet pictures during the show, so I wasn’t able to get a set list. From what I remember, they opened with #1… other highlights were probably FIREWORKS (which every one knew the words to), tentatively titled & blogged-about track “will to joy”/”Brother Sport”, and the closer was what show reviewers would describe as a “violent and stunning” rendition of “We Tigers.”

Other great songs were “Song for Ariel” which has usually been heard as a Panda Bear track, “Chores”, “Peace Bone”, “Am I Real” were all great. Everything they played was great.

But I’m just a fan, so what do I know?

I’m just some guy who is trying to “appreciate” music. Anyways, go see them. Get your tickets early, and go with your friends. If you don’t get your tickets early, buy them scalped. Have fun, because that’s what Panda, Avey, and Geo would want you to do. Stop being an ass hole and thinking so much. Oh, that’s just me and my group of friends, right?
