The Most iPod Worthy Mp3s of the past blogweek

Sorry that I am not a 'pure mp3 blog n e more.' The mp3 economy has kinda been on hiatus, except for blogger who wanted to 'get more hits' by 'posting tracks from the latest anCo/Andrew Bird album', etc. Just want to give yall stuff that's worth being on ur iPod without having 2 read like 100 other blogs.

Thnx 4 trusting me as 'a tastemaker.'
Here are 3 meaningful mp3s.

[MP3 #1]
Phoenix - 1901

Phoenix has always been good. They are from France. Their albums have generally all been 'pop that people respect because it is well-crafted', but since the mp3 economy has been so dry lately, I think there is a high demand for this kind of accessible sound, so it will probably be 'moderately overhyped' and lead people to say 'it's not THAT good.' I have always wondered how their lead singer sounds so French when he sings. Think he is married to that Lost in Translation director lady. When this mp3 'dropped', it kinda reminded me of the glory days of 2k7, when all blogs posted the same mp3 on the same day, cuz it was 'so good/relevant.' Hopefully Q2+Q3 give us more new music to blog about than Q1 did. h8 u 2k9Q1.

Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix)

I have posted the original version of this song, in addition 2 various versions of their song "PARIS." This remix is supposed to be conceptual, I think. So while I am not sure if I actively 'like' it, I think it makes sense if u have a lot of time 2 kill and need something that sounds 'different.' I think not all remixes are supposed 2 be 'dance anthems', kind of like when AnCo remixes something. But yeah, I will keep it in my iTunes library, and reflect upon how much 'new music I sample/hear because it is free [via blogforks].'

[MP3 #3]
CURSES! The Deep End (Holy Ghost! Remix)
I think this song is authentic disco. I remember when the electro era was ending, music started 2 sound like this. It is an upbeat, dark, urgent jam. Holy Ghost! is a pretty authentic band, so whenever they remix something, it is probably worth listening to. [mp3 hijack via discodust]

HAVE YALL HEARD ANY GOOD NEW BLOGGABLE MP3S LATELY?
Is there a new 'buzzband' that every1 is 'blogging/talking about'?
Is there a 'new blog on the street' that I should pay attention 2 because it has impeccable taste and might singlehandedly save the bloghaus genre?
do u like music?

Which Conceptual Music Video Do Yall Like The Most?

I was watching a couple of music videos that were 'kinda conceptual.' I wasn't sure which 1 I was supposed 2 like the most. Music videos really 'get my mind jogging', thinking about the identity of an artist, the purpose of a music video as a marketing tool/brand enhancer, and what I expect from a meaningful/conceptual music video.

/// Just want 2
/// look at shit
/// that looks 'cool'
/// on the internet
/// then re-blog it
/// making my own blog
/// look 'cooler'
/// we are branding 2gthr

////////////////////
Animal Collective - My Girls

</embed>

It's always interesting when a widely respected band makes a 'mediocre conceptual video' that is excessively 'praised'/'meme-ed' as an extension of the band. Kinda boring video, never really 'goes anywhere', and just makes you think about how 'uninteresting' AnCo are as humans. Sure they 'make good/relevant music', but videos like this make u wish they 'had more to offer' as humans/ambassadors of some 'message.' But I guess that's why it is easy to 'like' them since they are 'just music-making bros' and not Bono/Chris Martin/Ricky Martin/Brandon Flowers/Susan Sarandon/ Ben Gibbard / Kanye West, etc.

Overall just kinda tired of reading reviews/hearing dbags say that Animal Collective's music is 'textural', and this video kind of just reminds me of how much i h8 pre-modern music criticism / when people try to describe the non-aural elements of sound (if they exist). But ya. the video is s0000 textural, just like their music.

N e ways, do yall like AnCo showcasing their meaningful technological instruments in this vid?

/////////////////////
Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy

</embed>

I liked this vid/song more than I liked the "My Girls" experience. It makes me feel more 'alive', and 'looks cooler' than the AnCo video. Sometimes, u just have 2 admit that some things are 'cooler' than other things, and 'coolness' is the most important thing sometimes. The song kind of makes me want to 'buy a car' after being inspired by an upbeat/meaningful/dancey song in a commercial.

//////////
The Coldplays - Some song about Puppets

</embed>

Coldplay has a pretty interesting existence as a 'globally recognized band' because they don't really have a vision of 'what they want to be as a band'--instead, they just kind of re-use already accepted concepts/ideas that were already executed by highly regarded bands and artists. I wonder what 'the mainstream world' is looking for when they decide to 'honor' the Coldplays as a relevant/listenable band.
Can't believe they are sticking to the 'colonial war' uniform gimmick [via puppets].

"I used 2 rule the world." - George W. Bush + The Coldplays duet

//////////
BUT SRSLY
Which conceptual music video do yall 'like' the most?
Or is 'the music video' a dead art form?
In the future, will all music vids look like iPod commercials/capture the same positive consumer-core zeitgeist?

s00 0bsessed with this song + living in Paris

[Should I start wearing High Water Pantz?]

</embed>

Yall. I remember I posted the rmx of this song, and I found it to be extra meaningful + applicable 2 my life. One day, I just want to live in Paris with some 1 who I authentically appreciate. We will live together, and achieve all of our dreams.

Can't stop listening 2 it. Feel like the aesthetic merges 'what I used 2 appreciate' and 'what I appreciate n0w.' s00 drawn in2 it.

p0st m0re authentic Rapture/DFA dance thrash rock cowbell.

Can I ask u a personal question?

"One Day We're Going to Live in Paris. I Promise. I'm on it."

The song "Paris" by the Friendly Fires has been remixed by 'the next heir to the authentic remixing throne' Aeroplane.

The song is a powerful one. It's a love song. It's about wanting to grow with some one. It's about envisioning a perfect life in a perfect city and doing your best to get there. It's about the dream. It's about being in authentic love.

I <3 2 post meaningful post-metaphorical lyrics that put alternative ideals into words so perfectly. Wish I got to do it more often

One day we're gonna live in Paris
I promise
I'm on it
When I'm bringing in the money
I promise
I'm on it
I'm gonna take you out to club showcase
We're gonna live it up
I promise
Just hold on a little more

And every night we'll watch the stars
They'll be out for us
They'll be out for us
And every night, the city lights
They'll be out for us
They'll be out for us

One day we're gonna live in Paris
I promise
I'm on it
I'll find you that French boy,
You'll find me that French girl
I promise
I'm on it

So go and pack your bags
For the long haul
We're gonna lose ourselves
I promise
This time next year will be forevermore

The remix is kinda 'ridiculous/epic.' I feel like it is the right sound for an epic alternative love anthem, though.

Friendly Fires Paris (Aeroplane Remix Featuring Au Revoir Simone)

__________________________

I think the original version is relatively conceptually satisfying in a 'mainstreamish' post-Rapture Cowbell Percussion kinda way. I feel like if I wuz still an entrylevelalt circa 2k4, I would have listened to this song a lot. (not sure if that's good or bad).

</embed>

(Would probably put this on a mix CD for an entrylevel alt girl who u want 2 tug u off.)

Also, the Aeroplane remix strengthens the 'Au Revoir Simone is better when they aren't singing their own songs' theory. Luved them on the "Star Guitar" cover/remix by Shinichi Osawa.

</embed>

I just hope one day I get to move to a major metropolitan city with an HRO reader. We will live a meaningfully alternative life together.

Thrashy dancey music Will Live 4ever?

The song "SKELETON BOY" by FRIENDLY FIRES reminds me of the positive aspects of the Rapture & some of the best parts of the Shoes/Primary1 "Hold Me Down" remix.

I think FRIENDLY FIRES has been around for a long time (in blog years), but I never listened to them until they were blggd abt by hyperbole. For some reason, I assumed that they were PitchforkCore, or that they were the same as the FLEET FOXES because both of them have "FF" initials. I am scared of listening 2 new bands, yall--I feel comfortable listening to trivial electro where I don't have 2 ever know who the musician is (trivial electro producers usually just have a graphic on their myspace that is retro and/or intergalactic).

Also, judging by their press photo, I would say that they are a band who was forced into a quirky personal brand by a major label marketing representative.
