Then I saw Major Lazer’s latest video ‘Pon De Floor’, directed by that bro from the zany Adult Swim film ‘Tim and Eric.’ It seems like it might be ‘absurdist racist’ or something. Like something that is supposed to be a ‘parody’ but ultimately speaks volumes about ‘how easy it is to h8 black people’ but also ‘how fun and vibrant they can be in an entertaining way.’

It seems like they are ‘making fun’ of black people culture, or something. Like the dancers are supposed to mean that black people are ‘only interested in sex’ or something like that. Or maybe black people are ‘too dumb’ to be educated, so all they can do is ‘dance in a sexually suggestive format.’ I am not sure if Major Lazer is ‘intentionally trying 2 be racist’ as a complex marketing gimmick. I remember in their previous music video, they exploited the negro stereotype of a ‘goon.’

Maybe I am overthinking this video, and it is just supposed to appeal to AdultSwimBros who just ’smoke weed’ and watch 15 minute long flash-based cartoons.

Sorta just wish I could watch vintage ‘racist memes’ and grin without thinking 2 much abt what they ‘mean.’ Just want to ‘go viral’ with my MexiBro.

Feeling very confused about whether or not I get to even blog about complex racial issues like this. I feel like the only circumstance when African American culture is critiqued is when some rapper is ‘trying to be deep’ but ultimately ‘trying to sell records.’ Feel confused. Wish I lived in the year 3k9, so that then there would be ‘no skin colour’, and the majority of the world would be a ‘creamy brown’ skin colour.

Just want racial issues to go away so that I can enjoy ‘art.’

Language is so weird, yall. Sometimes I feel like it isn’t useful, like we can just communicate with images, videos, life experiences, and memes. For example, I watched this video, and even though I don’t know French, I can ‘relate’ and ‘totally understand’ what this video is all about. I am not sure if these are like famous French rappers like Tony Parker-Longoria or Yelle, but it seems like a similar product. There are also black girls dancing, making it okay that a white Euro is utilizing the art of rap, usually reserved 4 African Americans.

Still feel sort of pissed off that Euros are so obsessed with American stuff, including ‘Gossip Girl’, Michael Jackson (Justice), John Hughes films (M83), and ScarJo (The Teenagers). Tired of ‘fucking Frogs’ stealing American culture. Wish that they’d just stay ‘weird’ like Daft Punk and Sebby Tellier.

In his hit song, he raps about ‘college being awesome.’ I am not sure how many people this song will appeal to, since a lot of people don’t even have a typical ‘college experience’ these days, but I am not sure if that is even important.

This song might also be some sort of education campaign to get people-who-weren’t-gonna-go-2-college 2 go 2 college, convincing them that it is a ‘chill ass time’ where u can ’smoke weed’, ‘fuck hot chicks’, and ‘do whatever the fuck u want.’ Sort of makes me want to go to a mainstream state school instead of design school in the city. Not even sure what this song was talking about except from that movie ‘The Animal Collective House’ starring Jim Belushi [via According 2 Jim].

Recently, I saw that white rapper Eminem is ‘back’ with a ‘kewl new song.’ In the song/music video, he takes on zany meme current events including SARAH PALIN and JESSICA SIMPSON and Lindsay Lohan being a lesbian.

We’ve grown up a lot since Eminem was ‘big.’ Feel like tweens listened to him as a voice that ‘critiqued popular culture.’ This song feels weird now that it is ‘the celeb gossip blog era.’ Feels pretty ‘ghey’ that people ‘like Eminem’ and ‘think he is a gifted rapper.’ Makes me feel like I don’t know anything about rap.’ Sort of wish that Eminem would just ’spit out rhymes’ that were more directly hateful, instead of just making sillie statements that tweens would find funnie and mildly controversial.

I feel like the same person who would like the music in an Eminem track would also like the All American Rejects Song “Gives You Hell.” s000 zany

Remember when 8 mile came out, and people were like ‘This is the best movie of all time.’ Wonder if Kanye West is ‘the Black Eminem.’ Wonder what we really want from rappers/what they want from fans when it comes to image. Feel comfortable with Puff Daddy/Pdiddy because I ‘think he knows he is ridiculous.’ I think 50Cent knows he ‘is dumb’ and ‘was shot a bunch of times’, so he is probably just happy to mumble over club beats. Feel like ‘hiphop’ stars who use auto-tune in a self-aware manner ‘also seem chill.’ Makes me feel sad to see rappers in the modern era where they have to do stuff like ‘make viral videos’ and ‘participate on the internet.’ Not sure if all of them really ‘have what it takes’ to reach white audiences.

I guess that’s why Asher Roth is important 2 music / rcrd lbls / the future of hiphop.

Not sure how I feel about white rappers.
Think we don’t need them, since most white people haven’t gone through an authentic struggle. And if they did ’struggle’ it was probably in a gross white trash kind of way that we could probably ‘make fun of’ very easily.

Some of my bros decided to start a post-pre-post-meta-ironic core rap group. I think the concept behind it is that they are ‘not black’, ‘privileged’, and ‘get’ global issues. I think they are going to build a myspace with powerful graphic images that say controversial stuff, possibly parodying hiphop culture. I think they consider themselves 2 b ‘artists’ but they are also trying to ‘rage against the local scene’ and ‘how fucking stale’ it has become.

Yall. What’s the deal with ‘modern hiphop’? What is the state of ‘hipster rap’? Will bands like ‘The Cool Kids’ ever ‘catch on’? Would u rather watch these bros or M.I.A., or are they ‘basically the same thing’ except MIA has ‘better samples’/a higher ‘production value’?
