It has been almost a blog year since the HIPSTER GRIFTER captured our hearts. Last Halloween, so many AZNs dressed as the HIPSTERGRIFTER. Since GrifterGate, New York City has changed a lot, and it has taken a lot for us to learn to trust eachother again. She made us feel violated--no longer are we as trusting as we were during the Sex & the City era. I'm glad that they finally found her living a simple life and working as a manager at a Burrito Restaurant in Austin, TX.

They say that hindsight is 20/20, but I just wanted to go over what turned the HG from 'just another human meme' to some1 who 'we really identified with'. It's kinda weird because she didn't really 'steal' more money than most people use 4 student loans, and she really didn't act 'sluttier' than the 'sluttiest slut that u know.' What made her as compelling as a Dateline NBC special

FACTORS that drove the virality & charm of the HIPSTER GRIFTER:

• Catchy name: Are we even really sure what 'grifter' means? Think it was a term invented by some1 who is in touch with cultural movements from VICE.
• Internet footprint: I think sometimes we all wonder if there are 'too many pix of us' floating on the internet, and if that might 'come back and bite us in the ass one day.' Most of us think it would happen if we 'became famous' or 'got a really important job', but fortunately most of us aren't that special. However, Kari was pretty controversial, so I guess her pix 'caught up with her.'
• Testimonials that 'seem real enough': Feel like the internet/blogosphere is 'so awesome' because it is speculation+journalism.  She made us  really comfortable because it wasn't really a story that 'required journalistic integrity', and allowed people who may or may not have known her to tell their story about how they 'knew her' but 'were smart enough to not get conned' by her/'got fucked over by her.'
• Funnie Sexual Stories: Think that deep down, we all want some1 2 find us hot enough to send us a sexie note from across the room. Think it is 'humorous' when there is a sexually audacious person in our lives'. Especially when they are 'not THAT pretty' but make up for their l
• She was a minority: White people who are labeled as 'deviant' are generally crazy in a 'boring' way. Kind of like Lindsey Lohan 'just being a slut' when she has 'probably done crazier shit' and 'ruined more peoplez lives'.
• Becoming 'famous' in a matter of hours: We all want to be famous/microfamous, yall.  'Just want to be interesting/compelling enough to have some1 write a 'profile piece' about me.' -every1
• some1 who actually takes 'status' stuff seriously: She seemed like the kind of person who 'actually had fun' instead of 'going to a concert just to stay relevant.' Like the kind of entry-level attitude that u had at age 17 when you got into an 18+/21+ concert, and 'made out with a kute guy' in the front row.
• Every1 wants to operate without shame/guilt: Sometimes people with social disorders who live in an alternative version of reality seem like they 'have it easy.' I think that we all kinda wish that we could just 'go balls 2 the wall' without 'feeling bad' about 'fucking people over' and 'doing what we want.' Unfortunately, most people develop 'emotional connections' and feel guilty when they 'fuck some1 over.' Feel like we all kinda wanted 2 be her and run away from our parents who don't 'get' us and move 2 the city and work for a relevant company. She truly controlled her own destiny.

The Grifter is some1 we all knew. The Grifter lives inside of all of us.
In a way, the HIPSTERGRIFTER was kinda like a mirror... if u didn't like her... u probably didn't like what is inside of u.

She was already in a successful viral video. Think that means u can 'make it' in Hollywood/Bollywood [via Slumdog]. Sort of wish I worked for the Salt Lake City police so I could put my film degree to use by putting together this type of video media. Feel like I would really be helping the world.

I think every1 has 'socially puzzling' people enter their lives' at least once every 2 year. Like the kind who 'steals ur friends laptop' or 'mysteriously enters/leaves town one day.' The kind of person who feels 'really happy' when they are 'social climbing' and u don't rlly 'understand WHY' they seem s0 sad/alone. Fortunately, these types of people are only around for 1-3 months. U just have to be sure not to a) have sex with them b) make them dependent on u for things like 'fun', 'meeting new people', 'transportation services', or 'drugs.' They sort of just 'fade out of ur life' when they realize that u 'don't find them interesting as a person'/they can't 'steal/leech n e thing from u.' U just have to be brave enough not to return their 5th text.

BE CAREFUL YALL. srsly. so many ppl out there with bad intentions. just hang out on the internet all day 2 keep urself safe. do no give out ur credit card info unless u r buying a kewl t-shirt or shoes or something.
