Masked DJs
Which gimmick is more authentic?

Which gimmick is more authentic--
BEING A MASKED DJ??????

or being an ultimate altbro super fan who hand crafted a custom mask of his favourite masked DJ duo and wearing it to a meaningful LIVE DJ Set by his favourite masked DJ duo?

Just want 2 prove that my brand is [via N*SYNC] with my favourite altceleb DJ duo lifestyle brand.

Might wear this to a Panda Bear ft AnCo concert

Might wear a Beck costume to a Girl Talk house show

Might wear a Keyboard Shortcut to a Cut Copy concert

Might play russian roulette at a Deerhunter show

Can yall think of n e good gimmicks to implement at a show that proves u r a Super Fan of an indie rock electro band? Just wanna prove myself, yall.

Marketing Towards the Spawn of Masked DJs

You might know the progressive record label MODULAR as the legal owners of some of your favourite bands like Cut Copy, The Presets, Ladyhawke, New Young Pony Club, or Van She. I was really intrigued by their latest marketing campaign for their new t-shirts.

I know that masked DJs were big in 2k8.1, but are they really a significant enough demographic to dedicate a high-quality press photo to? If DJs wear a mask for too long, will it take over their bodies? Is this what happened to Daft Punk?

I think these photos might be a statement about the way America treats prisoners of the war on terror.

It might actually be a good business practice to take away attention from a model's alt presence while they are wearing your product. For example, there is the classic Dim Mak collection photo with a kutie who other girls might be jealous of and a kreepie in the background who might not be edgy enough to encourage bros to buy the shirts.

Do u think these models wear the shuttershade shirts when they go out with groups of their closest friends?

Overall, I'd say the trashbag-skinned Modular photos might be a design & marketing success. While part of me feels bad for the model who can't breathe, I'm glad I can just focus on the t-shirt and not some alt who has a deep gaze into the distance.

What happens when a Masked DJ goes out in public without his mask?

You probably recognize the Bloody Beetroots, once of the most innovative Masked DJ duos in the the modern era of Masked DJs.

I know most people often wonder things like 'Do masked DJs go out in public without their masks?' or 'Do masked DJs have parents/a soul/a digestive tract?'

I just stumbled across these pictures of the Bloody Beetroots who may shed some light on what masked DJs look like when they are not DJing.

SRSLY though... How much mask is 2 much mask?
When is it time to 'let go' of the gimmick?
Do u think they eat Christmas dinner with their families while wearing masks?

New Alt Deer DJ transcending the electro scene, getting tons of blog buzz

There is apparently a new Deer DJ who is 'tearing up' the electro scene. Last weekend, he played a relevant club in the greater Los Angeles metro area, and seemed to have acquired a lot of fans. He threw down a 'sick nasty' set with a mix of bangers, ravewave, chillcore, techno haus, and post-bloghaus. He handed out free mix CDs and USB drives that were fully loaded with digital media strengthening his brand. He even included a PDF file that was a 'press kit' for his DJ brand.

Do u think this deer is the victim of suburban development? Like he used to live in a forest, but then they built a subdivision and he was adopted by an uppermiddleclass family. Now he went away to college in a relevant city, got wrapped up in the scene, and now he is trying to 'make it' as a DJ / electro act?

Seems like anonymous animals are 'taking over the indie and DJ scene.' After Daft Punk's "Human After All", fans are no longer interested in humans. The want 'anonymous alt animals' who represent 'getting back 2 nature.' I feel like the 'deer brand' might be a response to the emerging post-emo trend of 'people who think the are wolves.' [link]
