Music Video: Matt and Kim - "LESSONS LEARNED"

</embed>

Damn. Just watched this music video. Watched Mattbro and KimSis get all naked in Times Square. Not sure if it was some sort of 'editing'+'green screen' trick,' but still, I think the video is 'progressive.' The song is already inherently meaningful because there are some 'la la la's being sung by a female in the background. I think this is the type of music video that a band makes when they are about to 'break through the mainstream bubble' and 'keep people's attention for the duration of the entire song.' (kinda like that Coldplay 'Yellow' video). It is a better strategy than 'showing the band playing their music' because 'mainstreamers don't even know who they are yet.'

I think that nudity represents 'freeing urself' and 'not conforming to society's expectations' for ppl to wear clothes. Think that getting naked in Times Square means that ur 'free spirited' since it is so consumery there. Sort of wish they had filmed this video some where 'blasphemous' kind of like Israel, a mosque, or some sort of Middle Eastern Holy Ground. Feel like that might have 'said more' about society/liberation/being strong enough to tell ur parents that u don't believe in their ideals/God.

Also think this video is meant to make the viewer ask 'who has a hotter bod?'
I feel sort of sad that this video doesn't showcase the 'shit eating grins' that most people associate with Matt and Kim.

Just read the wikipedia article of Matt and Kim and found out that they met when they attended Pratt. Hope that I meet some1 2 start a band with while at my liberal arts/Ivy League/design school university. Not sure if I will get a 'creative job' in this economie.

New HRO Gimmick: Reporting that Bands Have Changed Their Names

Just thought I might beta test a new HRO gimmick. After blogging about MATT AND KIM and getting an unreasonable amount of feedback, it's easy to tell that they are 'what's big after the meaningfulcore bubble' bursts. They are certainly a bit meaningful, but definitely more 'fun.' People tend to want more fun when the world is in crisis (kinda like our financial economie thingy).

Matt and Kim are two smiley individuals. I'm rlly excited that they are changing their names.

I feel like the video for "yeah yeah" aka 'ya ya' aka "yea yea" aka "yes, yes" aka "uh huh yea" is probably one of the shit-eatingest grinniest in the world.

[WATCH OUT FOR THE PIZZA ALTS]
Did u know that shiteatinggrinning is contagious, kinda like yawning.

The truth is that Matt&Kim is an old product that angel investor FrankBro Chan of IHeartCommies invested in. Now I think he sold them to a bigger rcrd lbl for a fleet of ice cream trucks.

The reason Matt And Kim will achieve relative mainstream success is bc of their live product. Entrylevel alts will be eager to 'see a memorable live performance', kinda like a girl talk concert. If you tour extensively AND have a decent enough gimmick, you have a great chance of 'making it.' It also helps if ur a mix-gendered band & if people are 'allowed 2 get krazie' at ur concert. Bands of unmemorable altBros who are 'kinda talented' but have no distinguishing gimimick will not 'make it' no matter how hard they tour.

Speaking of GurleTalk, seen n e g00d concert reviews lately? Is this recap authentic? Is Pitchfork going to switch all of their reviews to vlog format?

I [ENCOURAGE] more HRO readers to make meaningful video/slideshow recaps of alternative events. We really need ur alternative perspective on the streets. Just want 2 identify with yall on a personal level. Your perspective is unique & AmericanBeautiful.

Need m0re fan media, even if u just send a pic of u holding a 'will tug 4 meaningful memes' sign.

I love music videos that are supposed 2 look indie for MTV/VH1 audiences

[video may not be viewable in your RSS reader]

How many 'indie music video' gimmicks can u count in this music video?

</embed>

I was watching this video by the Matt and Kims for the song "Daylight." I feel like this video is the perfect execution of the 'indie aesthetic for people who like things that look earnestly quirky are meaningful.' (These people were created after NappyDynamite Fever.) The song structure is baffling enough for people to not know if it is good or bad, enabling them to decide on the quality of product based on 'how it looks' in relation to 'stuff they've seen in the past.'

Since it is a mashup of indie/meaningfulcore aesthetics, the product is approachable, and most entry level alts are able to assign meaning to it in a deliberately arbitrary way.

BUT SRSLY...if I lived my life in stop-motion, would it be more meaningful?

Matt & Kim make a fun & free-spirited video 4 alt tweens abt how NYC is 'amazing'

I just watched this music video of Matt & Kim's song, and they are going around New York City, being all 'guerilla video', trying to create a fun time on the go. Riding the subway. Playing in mainstream areas. Playing on relevant bridges. I wonder what tweens think when they watch a video like this? Maybe that they will one day get to move to NYC, and they will see buzzbands on every corner, playing pop-up shows.

I've never been able to figure out what Matt & Kim's relationship is all about? Are they brother & sister? Are they husband and wife? I wish some1 would tell me, because that is mainly why I keep watching. Just trying to figure it out.

Really need to move to NYC soon so that I can see members of buzzbands working in the service industry, and I can ask them to sign my limited edition lofi vinyl that I bought off their Kickstarter.

Do u want to move 2 a meaningful city?
Ride some subways, join a bike gang? Free urself from ur suburban existence?
Did they play in relevant NYC hotspots?
Are they the 'greatest live band' in the history of indie?
Who likes Matt & Kim?

Matt & Kim make a music video where they 'hate fuck' one another

</embed>
Matt & Kim are an entry-level indie band that tweens who 'want 2 be indie' think that they are supposed 2 like. Whenever they play live, they have 'shit eating grins', so every1 smiles and feels happy, but ultimately their music is forgettable. They made some new music video for 1 of their many crap-wave indie songs called "Cameras."

I have never been able 2 figure out whether or not Matt & Kim are 'both gay', or if they are in a relationship or something. It seems like they made Kim 'doll up' in this music video instead of just looking like a ripped dude. They 'kick one another's ass' in this video, probs cuz they h8 one another deep down, but understand that if they quit their band, they would probably only be able 2 work in a coffee shop or something.

I didn't watch this entire video bc it was boring, but if I had 2 guess, they ended up 'hate fucking' 1 another, which is kinda like 'aggressive breakup sex' except without the 'breaking up' and tons of h8 where you are trying to punish ur partner. After years on the road, existing in cramped quarters, u have to know there is tons of resentment + hate between them. I know they probably just want to be like "This was fun and we did all of our own stunts!" but there is rlly something telling about any 'h8 fuck' music video / pornographic content.

Do yall miss the days when they were happie and had shit-eating grins?

Or do u think the 'hate fuck' vibe is raw and real?
Do u <3 or h8 Matt & Kim?
Have u ever 'hate fucked' some1?
Is 'hate fucking' more intense and aggressive than 'breakup sex'?
Are Matt & Kim 'the most successful boy + girl indie duo' in the history of indie?
Are Matt & Kims what 'indie is all about'?
Do u think She & Him will ever have a 'hate fuck wave' music video?
Do all boy + girl duos end up 'hate fucking' or is 'starting a band' something that happens in the afterglow of a hatefucking experience?

Gifted and Talented Tweens ‘cover’ Matt and Kim’s Indie hit “Daylight”
</embed>

Just saw this group of gifted and talented tweens covering Matt & Kim's song from a few years ago "Daylight." Sorta weird that this generic indie song is 'so generic' that it has evolved into a mainstream indie staple song. I don't have any commentary on the performance since it is probably 'good', but wanted to use this post to reflect on children + the performing arts.

Feel sad that my parents didn't send me to guitar / piano / ableton lessons when I was a kid. I am at a severe disadvantage as an artist, like if I wanted to start an indie band I wouldn't even know how.

Wish I could have had an awkward high school band, playing songs that sounded a little bit like Pavement meets Lifehouse.

Wish I could have 'dropped vocals' in the studio.

wonder if I would have been a smarter kid if music stimulated the left/right side of my brain. I guess I'll never know. I'll always be jealous of the bros who brought their acoustic guitars to high school, or my friends who were in 'orchestra' then spent several thousand dollars to buy some weird instrument like a cello. Even though they never play their cello any more, they still had the affirmation that their parents were willing to invest in them 2 cultivate a skill that may or may not have taught them life lessons.

Do u think Obama should cut funding for the performing arts in schools across America?
Does music really help kids 2 learn?
Should Vh1 really care about 'saving the music' or should they just keep making celeb reality shows?
Do u wish u knew how to play indie songs on the guitar / garageband / serato?
Do u think these teens wish they could have covered a Disney teen pop song?
Will Matt and Kim's "Daylight" accidentally evolve into the next "Wake Up" by the Arcade Fire?
