I was reading my twitter homepage the other day, and I couldn’t help but notice some ’scathing snark comments’ from the popular bloghouse-to-mainstream rapper M.I.A.

It seems like she is ‘talking mad shit’ about our President Barack Obama. Apparently he won 1st prize in the metaphorical ‘Best Human on the Planet’ awards [via Nobel Peace Prize]. It seems like something that we should celebrate whether or not he deserves it and whether or not the Award ‘means anything.’ It is an important step in rebranding our nation to the rest of the world. It seems like winning this award might ‘convince the rest of the world that the USA is a chill place, trying 2 make some positive changes.’ It seems like M.I.A. is ‘trying to take a shit’ on our nation/our leader/etc. Seems hard for me to identify with artists who don’t see America as being ‘fucking awesome’, even when we had a Repubby President. We must support our leaders. Sorta wish ppl were punished when they performed public acts of rebellion. Wish our government monitored twitter, kinda like Iran.

I am not sure if M.I.A. lives in the USA. It seems like these types of ’snark comments’ might make her some sort of person on a list of ‘bad people’ according to the US govt, since she has been linked 2 ‘terrorist groups’ or something.. It seems like making anti-Obama statements might diminish her appeal to liberal alts. Like there might be Protests outside of her shows in the United States by liberals and conservatives.

I am not sure if the Nobel Peace Prize is still a ‘prestigious’ award. It seems like it would be comparable to some sort of ‘Blog Awards’ that reward ‘The Best Blog on the Planet’ or something. Or possibly an ‘MTV Award’ in film/music/music videos. Seems like a nice process, but it ultimately helps the awards show when u can ‘brand the award’ with the most popular performers. Think I might start an ‘awards system’ for some sort of alternative genre, and maybe it will appear to be ‘more real’ over time.

But still, it’s ‘fucking awesome’ that Barry Obama was named the most Noble Human on the Planet. A Bro Who Branded himself as ‘Hope’ & ‘Change’ finally gets some sort of reward (besides the Presidency). Seems like a ‘huge victory’ for ‘us.’

We can never forget who we are as a nation, and our special mission as ‘the best nation in the World.’ We must stay unified in our beliefs and steadfast in the American way. Any1 who does not approve of our way of life is a terrorist since they don’t ‘get’ us and are ultimately trying 2 harm us. God has truly blessed our nation, and we must accept our responsibility to ‘bring good’ to the rest of the world. You are either a patriot or a terrorist–there is nothing in between.

Nvr Frgt.

Will u boycott M.I.A.?
R u proud of Barry Obammy?
Can the USA ‘rebrand’ itself 2 the world?
R u a patriot or a terrorist?
I’m really not sure what’s ‘kewl’ n e more. Seems like we are in the ‘longest dry spell’ in the history of independent music, or maybe I am too relevant 4 my own good. I am thinking of getting some tattoos that serve as tributes to ‘The Most Relevant Times of my Life.’ Maybe some stuff like Justice Crosses, MerriweatherPostPavillion arm sleeves, and miscellaneous Paper Planes flyin’ around my body like krazie.

I am also considering tattooing the ‘best mp3s of the decade’ on my forearm, so that when I am in public, I will always be able to generate conversations in which I can thrive. h8 when people get a ton of unrelated tattoos, and don’t realize that tatties are art, and they are meant to tell a story about your life on top of your body. It seems like if I had a ‘Paper Planes’ tattoo, people would know that I was sort of ‘floating in the wind’ and ‘just trying to crossover.’

Much like the song, I am not sure if the tattoo will have ’staying power.’ Not sure if my kids will ‘get it’ when they are teenagers. Hope they don’t laugh at me. Worried that my kids will 1 day be ‘kewler’ than me. Hopefully I can just keep checking alt Websites until I die so that I stay ‘in the know.’ Always want my son/daughter to know that he/she will never be more authentic than me.

what did u do 4 labor day weekend? I had a lil sleepover and we made yewtewb videos.

Do yall think that M.I.A. is the female artist of the decade, since she was able to inspire mainstream lil girls to ’sing about issues’ and ‘make gun shot noises’?

If u had 2 get 1 tattoo that was a tribute 2 ur fave band/record label/lyric/music festival/alternative website/alternative concert venue, what would it be?

I remember when M.I.A. had a baby, and it was a meme. She was pregnant, and people were trying to guess its name/what it looked like, even though she wasn’t even that mnstrm famous. She also went moderately viral for wearing a zany ass dress that exposed her full belly.

I remember that she even went on to ‘perform with Kanye West’ at the Grammy’s even though many said that she ’should have stayed home’ to rest/not let her pregnant feet get all swollen.

Her son was born, and ppl were happy for her, and she enjoyed tweeting abt her son, but was also like ‘leave my lil bro alone. just want him 2 b a normal kid.’

Feel confused about what she recently posted to her ‘twitpic’ account. Seems like she converted her son into a fashion/alt blog meme by dressing him in a similar onesie. Sorta wish I could be a homosexual celeb gossip blogger, and call him ‘fierce’ or something like that.

Lil bro seems lost, like he is unsure of what is happening, not confident in his lil personal brand. Looks like he seriously might prefer ’solids’ and ’stripes.’ He might be some sort of ‘advertisement’/'model.’ Based on the photo aesthetic, it was possibly shot by Terry Richardson or Dov Charney. Might be trying to sell me that onesie/encouraging me to share the gift of life with some1.

Feel bad for the kid. Seems like he is being branded to become an ‘independent spirit’, but u can’t be independent if your parents make free-spirited decisions for you, particularly when it comes to zany fashion decisions. Wonder if he will ‘rebel’ against his mom by wearing Hollister/CrombieAberFitch. Wonder if this lil bro is the next Paris Jackson. Feel like we will see a picture of him at age 5 chilling at a music festival V.I.P. area with his mom, and decide to call him ‘cool’, like he ‘knows whats up.’ He will be wearing sunglasses. Can’t believe his name is ‘Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.’

Should celebs refrain from sharing their lives’ with fans [via twitter], or should they be even more open? I remember the time that Ed “Grizzly Bear” Droste and Feist shared a meaningful rollercoaster ride, then it got ‘tons of blog buzz.’

Not sure if a moment turns into ‘just another meme’ when u share it with the internet.
Not sure if ur baby turns into ‘just another meme’ if you post pix of it on the internet.

As yall know, popular rapper M.I.A. has a personal brand that is ‘very political.’ I’m not even sure where she is from, or what this flier is encouraging me to do. I think it is for some governmental election or something. She is apparently ‘giving away an mp3′ for people who vote. I’m not sure if you get a ‘redemption code’ after you vote, or if this is some sort of online election, like hotornot.com.

I wonder if M.I.A. has enough reach to impact an election. Maybe if the election was in Sri Lanka/Brooklyn, but I am afraid that it will be a difficult for her to sway the vote of people who don’t listen to indie/mainstream rap. I feel like if I were a political candidate, and some sort of ‘zany minority with ties to terrorist groups’ supported me, I would say ‘thank u, but could u keep quiet.’

It’s weird when celebs have a personal brand that is ‘political.’ It’s like u know they are yapping about something ‘important’, but you sort of just filter it all out as ‘noise’ and just think 2 urself ‘thats nice that they wanna make an ‘impact’ or something.’

How do u feel about celebs with a political voice?
Do u want to be elected to a political position 1 day?
Do u think that M.I.A. should take a graphic design course a community college?
Does M.I.A. need to pick more authentic fonts/colour schemes?
Do yall think M.I.A. used PAINT or PHOTOSHOP 2 design this flier?

I watched this video of rapper M.I.A. being interviewed by snarky political comedian Bill Maher. I know that M.I.A. is political and shit, but I never really knew what she was talking about. Glad that Bill Maher sort of ’spoke for her’ and ‘explained the issue’ that she keeps blabbing about. Not even sure if I ‘get it.’ I feel like I might only care about American issues, or issues that cause the American govt to spend money so I can complain about how there are potholes in my roads even though we are spending money on the war in Iraq. Sort of just wish that she would ‘rap’ over some sweet beats (produced by Diplo) instead of ‘talking about issues and shit.’

From what I understand:

M.I.A. is from Sri Lanka

They are killing the ‘minorities’ there

There are crimes and stuff like that going on there

It is ‘bad’ and ’serious’

M.I.A. will write a song called “Paper Planes 2.0″ about it

M.I.A. has black hair but it used to be orange and it is growing out

Bill Maher thinks American ppl are ‘mad stupid’

M.I.A. lived in the U.K. since age 10

This is a map of Sri Lanka. I think the green areas are ‘less violent’ and the yellow areas represent ‘more acts of hate and political oppression.’

Just trying to educate yall. Trying to get yall to care about more global issues. Wish more celebrities would come up with more creative causes to support instead of just ’supporting Obama.’ Feel like he’s boring to support since he is making things worse and led us into economic crisis.

Sometimes I wonder how ‘mainstream’ a formerly independent artist can go. I feel like there are ‘levels of going mainstream’ which inspire an escalating amount of resentment/’backlash’ against u, depending on how mainstream your music/personal brand goes. I think it is ‘important for a band to try to go mainstream’ so that they can setup college funds for their kids. But when a band/artist ‘goes mainstream’, we can’t help but feel a lil bit like ‘h8 u.’

Here is a list of escalating microevents which make u feel like ‘fuck… they r going mainstream’:

Having ur music used in a commercial

Getting a mainstream record deal where u have 2 make 6 albums and only get like 3% of sales

Your CDs are in a mainstream store like Best Buy

Playing live at a Late Show

Playing live on a Late Show

Being played in the background of an MTV show/promo spot

Having ur song be the theme song to ‘The Hills’

A legacy ‘artist’ like David Byrne saying that ‘ur music is rlly authentic.’

Some free spirited cunt saying that she ‘listens 2 ur band all the time’ in a magazine interview (like Natalie Portman in her prime)

One of those authentic male actors ’saying that ur music is good’ and ‘being in attendance at ur concert’ (like Ryan Gosling showing up at a Grizzly Bear concert, then getting blurbed about being there)

U r ‘blurbed about’ as ‘the next big thing’ in some notable magazine that will go out of business next year

Having a rapper sing over ur catchiest song

Kanye West nonsensically raps over ur song just cuz it is ’so kewl’

Being nominated for a Grammy but losing to a pop star/rap star

Winning a grammy

Ur music is used by a political campaign since the message is so generic and welcoming, and the song is pretty catchy/uplifting

Lindsay Lohan going 2 ur concert/DJ Set

A ‘very famous’ like Bono/Thom Yorke saying that ‘ur band is rlly good.’

Getting ur picture taken with Oprah

Barry Obama lists u as an artist on his iPod

Marrying some1 richer/famouser/more influential than u

You play in some shitty ‘live collab’ where u sing an old song with an old artist, like singing “Brown Eyed Girl” in some shitty duet with Van Morrison

Having Oprah ‘perform a sexual favor’ on u

God puts ur music on his playlist in his iTunes library

Can yall think of any other events within the alternative artist product lifecycle where u ‘find urself cringing’ and saying ‘fuck… we lost them…. think they are mainstream now’? Has there ever been a particular artist that u stopped liking after they ‘fucking sold out’ by being involved in one of the above circumstances? R u worried about M.I.A.’s next album, and the ‘hype backlash’?

Sort of wish Oprah would use her massive platform to ‘do something good’ instead of just being snarky and causing health scares across the nation. Tired of her being some1 who ‘tells middle america’ about emerging trends/weight loss techniques/technologies. Wish we could build them a ‘website 4 stupid people’ or something.

MP3 REVIEW
Rye Rye Bang (ft M.I.A.)

Review: Listened 2 this song by Rye Rye featuring M.I.A. Not sure what I am supposed to think about it. Not sure if Rye Rye is ‘authentically from the streets’ or in that genre of ‘rap that is marketed to ‘hipsters’ but not really accepted by authentic hiphop circles.’Can’t really ‘judge’ music that sounds like this. I really only know Rye Rye cuz she sang that one song about ’shaking that shit to the ground’ that was ‘catchy’ or something like that. This song sounds alright, I guess. Probably doesn’t mesh with my background+lifestyle choices. When I hear the song, I wonder if M.I.A. was in the studio, or if they just used an audio sample of her saying ‘bang’ from a previous song. Sounds kinda weird, but I think it is important for music blogs to cover M.I.A. even if they ‘don’t really know why.’

Grade: 3 out of 10 runoffs

Sometimes I wonder if Rye Rye’s greatest moment will always be ‘when those fat broads danced to her song and created a hit internet meme.’
H8 when blogs report fake news. Wish there was some website that was a fact checking/anti-plagarism source so that no1 could write fake stories just to get hits. Wish the paparazzi realized that we’re all humans and not just newsbits+memes.

I feel like males dominate Blipsterdom, since it is easy for them to adapt to new styles. However, most girls who are alt and want to be blipster-core have a more difficult time showcasing their personal brand. Fortunately, mainstream hiphop star and multiple Grammy & Oscar award winner, M.I.A. provided a template which they could use to springboard their personal brand.

This is the M.I.Alt. I just hope that females in the Africalt-American community feel more ‘empowered’ than previous mainstreamers who feel like they have to adapt to hiphop stereotypes. Not every1 has 2 be a ‘video girl’ doing some sort of dance that showcases ur figure. The blipster aesthetic is generally unisexable, so hope that every1 who wants 2 b ‘themselves’ can be ‘themselves.’

Or are most African American Female Alts trying to look like their white group of AltFriends?
